    摘要: A real-time latching controller with consideration of wave force prediction is developed and applied to a heaving point-absorber to maximize its energy absorption. The control scheme is based on the combination of optimal command theory and first order-one variable grey model GM(1,1). By forecasting the wave forces in the near future, the control action at the next instant is deduced. Simulation results show that the energy absorption is increased due to the real-time controller. Therefore, the developed real-time controller is applicable to an industrial wave energy converter (WEC) in random waves. The effect of wave force prediction deviation is also examined. It is shown that the control efficiency is reduced in the presence of prediction deviation.

    摘要: Non-isolated step-down converters are widely used as auxiliary power supplies. Active and passive components are usually integrated in a single chip in the industry. High power density and high efficiency are always the most important requirements. High switching frequency, such as megahertz (MHz), can highly shrink the volume of passive components compared with kilohertz frequency, however, it will cause huge switching loss for hard switching converters. Zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) is able to highly reduce switching loss, especially under high frequency. In this paper, three ZVS buck-type converters operating at MHz frequency, including conventional buck, tapped-inductor buck and hybrid resonant buck converter, are compared. Finally, three hardware prototypes using gallium-nitride (GaN) devices with 24-48 V input and 3-A/5-V output are demonstrated and compared in terms of efficiency, size and thermal performance.

  • Soft-Output Detection Methods for Sparse Millimeter Wave MIMO Systems with Low-Precision ADCs

    摘要: In this paper, we propose computationally-efficient yet near-optimal soft-output detection methods for coded millimeter wave (mmWave) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems with low-precision analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). The underlying idea of the proposed methods is to construct an extremely sparse inter-symbol-interference (ISI) channel model by jointly exploiting the delay-domain sparsity in mmWave channels and a high quantization noise caused by low-precision ADCs. Then we harness this sparse channel model to create a trellis diagram with a reduced number of states and a factor graph with very sparse edge connections, which are used for computationally-efficient soft-output detection methods. Using the reduced trellis diagram, we present a soft-output detection method that computes the log-likelihood ratios (LLRs) of coded bits by optimally combining the quantized received signals obtained from multiple receive antennas using a forward-and-backward algorithm. To reduce the computational complexity further, we also present a low-complexity detection method using the sparse factor graph to compute the LLRs in an iterative fashion based on a belief propagation algorithm. Simulations results demonstrate that the proposed soft-output detection methods provide significant frame-error-rates gains compared to the existing frequency-domain equalization techniques in a coded mmWave MIMO system using one or two bit ADCs.

    摘要: This paper proposes a dual-input LLC resonant converter that interfaces with one PV panel and one battery energy storage system (BESS). The topology is a dual half-bridge LLC circuit with four active switches. This topology allows the two sources to share the same resonant tank for transferring energy to the load without the need for additional circuit components. A phase-shift pulse width modulation (PWM) control is employed to implement maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for PV panel and duty cycle is controlled to regulate battery current. The converter voltage gain is controlled by varying the operating frequency as in a typical LLC resonant converter. Zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) is realized in all switches over the entire range of source voltage and load conditions. In addition, voltage stress across switches does not exceed the input voltage. A simulation study was carried out to validate the operating principles of the proposed topology. The input voltage range of the PV source was selected to be 25 V to 50 V and the nominal input voltage of battery was 60 V with an output voltage regulated at 200 V DC.

    摘要: This paper proposes a reliable and an efficient PV (Photovoltaic) powered water pump using a modified SEPIC converter with high static gain. The modified SEPIC converter has low switch voltage stress with high efficiency. It provides almost twice the static gain as compared to conventional boost converter and provides relatively large area for execution of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controller. The switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive speed is controlled by using pulse width modulation (PWM) of a mid-point converter using only one voltage sensor. It supports to reduce the size of DC link capacitor and provides soft starting to drive via regulating the DC bus voltage. The operation of modified SEPIC converter in continuous inductor current mode (CICM) minimizes the stress on its devices and improves its conversion performance. An improved P&O (Perturb and observe) MPPT technique is used in proposed system. This MPPT controller has an additional advantage of regulating the flow rate of water pumping by adjusting the duty cycle of proposed DC-to-DC converter. The design procedure of system is described and a test bed is developed to verify its aptness under changing climate situations.

  • Comparative Analysis to Explore the Suitability of a Short Chain Dyad in Its Pristine and Nanocomposite Forms for Designing Artificial Light Energy Conversion Device

    摘要: From the UV-vis, steady state and time resolved spectroscopic investigations on the pristine dyad, dyad-spherical gold nanoparticles (GNP) and dyad-star shaped gold nanoparticles (GNS), it was observed that though in the ground state the dyad in its pristine form possesses trans-type (elongated and planar) isomer but on photoexcitation trans-form converts into cis-structure (folded). Interestingly, the dyad exhibits different behavior when it combines with GNP or GNS. In nanocomposite form, even on photoexcitation some ground state trans-structure still retains its identity in the excited state. The 60% of the trans-species remains unchanged in the excited state due to excitation of dyad-GNS system and possibly this configuration facilitates the hindrance of energy destructive charge recombination processes as in this conformer the donor and acceptor moieties tend to move far away from each other causing lack of overlapping of charge clouds within the two redox components. The dyad-GNS nanocomposite appears to be the best possible light energy conversion or storage device within the three system studied in the present investigation. Investigations are underway to examine how the degree of surface coverage of the dyad on the surface of gold nanoparticles affect its geometry or conformational changes on photoexcitation.

  • New Current-Mode Multipliers by CNTFET-Based n-Valued Binary Converters

    摘要: This paper presents new Binary Converters (or current-mode compressors) by the usage of carbon nanotube field effect transistors. The new designs are made of three parts: 1) the input currents which are converted to voltage; 2) threshold detectors; and 3) the output current flow paths. In addition, an 8×8-bit multiplier is considered as a bench mark to estimate their efficiency degrees. The first approach is based on high-order Binary Converters, and the second one is only composed of 4BCs and Half Adders.

  • Investigation on Solar PV generation and design of switched reluctance motor for Smart Agriculture actuation system

    摘要: This paper presents standalone solar photovoltaic (PV) powered fed actuation system employing a switched reluctance motor (SRM) particularly used in remote and rural areas. The converter efficiency is achieved by changing ON and OFF state of solar PV drive. An electronic commutation drives SRM drive with achieved by position hall sensor and encoder. The modified boost converter is proposed in single stage to conversion of PV fed power and inverter with reduced switching losses. Further proposed system is designed to reduce cost of system using simple design and control. This paper also proposes the speed control strategy of SRM motor with an artificial intelligent based Adaptive neuro fuzzy inference (ANFIS) system to achieve desired motor velocity as stated in reference velocity in farm lands. The system proposed is subjected to analysis the performance of drive and controller in both load and no-load conditions. Initially, a simulation model is modeled in MATLAB-SIMULINK with corresponding environments. The experimental setup for proposed system is developed using FPGA based SPEEDGOAT real time target machine. The simulation and hardware results suggest feasibility of proposed system in real time.

  • An H5 Transformerless Inverter for Grid Connected PV Systems with Improved Utilization Factor and a Simple Maximum Power Point Algorithm

    摘要: Due to their small size, minimum cost, and great efficiency, photovoltaic (PV) grid-connected transformerless inverters have been developed and become famous around the world in distributed PV generators systems. One of the most efficient topologies of the transformerless inverter family is H5 topology. This inverter extracts a discontinuous current from the PV panel, which conflicts with the operation at maximum power point tracking (MPPT) conditions while the utilization factor of the PV degrades. This paper proposes improved H5 topology featuring a boost converter inserted in the middle between the PV panels and the H5 inverter. The design of the boost converter is planned to operate at continuous conduction mode to guarantee MPPT conditions of the PV. A new and simple off line MPPT algorithm is introduced and performance factors like efficiency and utilization factors of the proposed and convention H5 topology are compared. The simulation results indicate that the proposed system provides a preferable utilization factor and a simpler MPPT algorithm.

    摘要: Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) devices are usually battery powered and thereby their lifetime is limited. This issue leads to lose data measurements and thus to a performance loss of the underlying WSN application. It also increases the maintenance cost in Internet of Things (IoT) scenarios with a huge number of WSN devices. Energy harvesting (EH) is one of the key technologies to solve this issue. In this paper, energy harvesting by artificial light is proposed to power WSN devices in indoor scenarios. Contrary to the state-of-the-art related work, this paper experimentally demonstrates that it is possible, under certain conditions, to achieve energy neutral WSN devices by harvesting energy from artificial light. The experimental setup consists of an EH module, which powers a WSN source data acquisition node, and a WSN sink node which receives the data sent by the first. The EH module consists of a photovoltaic (PV) cell, a boost converter and a 3V coin battery.
