[IEEE 2017 9th IEEE-GCC Conference and Exhibition (GCCCE) - Manama, Bahrain (2017.5.8-2017.5.11)] 2017 9th IEEE-GCC Conference and Exhibition (GCCCE) - Dual Unified Power Quality Conditioner Based on Open-Winding Transformers and Series Converters for Grid-Connected PV Systems
摘要: A new scheme for a grid connected photovoltaic system capable of enhancing power quality of a distribution system is presented in this paper. The proposed system is consisted of a dual unified power quality conditioner (D-UPQC) based on open-end winding (OEW) transformer and series connected converters. The D-UPQC is consisted of four series converters connected to the grid via two three-phase transformer with open-end winding on the converters side. The proposed scheme uses two PV arrays, each array feeds a separate dc-link of a two three phase voltage source converter (VSC). The structure, control and capability of the proposed configuration are discussed in this paper. The effectiveness of the proposed configuration has been verified through simulation studies using Simulink/Matlab.

Enhanced auto-scaling incremental conductance MPPT method, implemented on low-cost microcontroller and SEPIC converter
摘要: This paper proposes a new maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm for photovoltaic (PV) systems, which is tested in simulations and practical implementations. In the proposed PV-MPPT system, a new control strategy is applied to create two operating areas. In each area, the step-size is different in the function of the closeness to the MPP. Because of this strategy, some drawbacks of the conventional incremental conductance (IncCond) methods are eliminated. A single-ended primary-inductor converter (SEPIC) DC–DC converter is controlled with the proposed MPPT technique. The modified IncCond method is validated under simulation with test data, real data and real scenarios of solar irradiation. The results of the proposed approach show higher MPPT efficiencies and shorter convergence times than the conventional IncCond method even in rapidly changing conditions of solar radiation.

摘要: High Step-up converters have numerous applications in renewable energy systems and electric automotive industry. To improve the power density, an interleaved high step-up boost converter with coupled inductor was proposed. However, for practical applications is compulsory that this topology must comply with the CISPR standards. Therefore, to identify the noise sources in the analyzed converter, an equivalent noise modelling is conducted. These models revealed the dependency of inductor windings on different noise sources. For experimental analysis of the conducted emissions of this topology, GaN FETs based prototype is designed. Several tests were carried out to find the effect of various factors on noise emission. As results of tests, 1) Increasing the switching frequency generates increase in the noise spikes 2) Noise emissions from the converter do depend on its mode of operation 3) High peaks of noise are generated at low frequency range by reducing the voltage transition time across the switch.

Dynamic Photo-Electro-Thermal Modeling of Light-Emitting Diodes with Phosphor Coating as Light Converter
摘要: Based on the dynamic Photo-Electro-Thermal (PET) theory for LED systems, a comprehensive theory for analyzing and modeling phosphor coating in white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as a dynamic light converter has been presented in Part-I of this paper. This Part-2 of the work provides the details of the model parameter determination, model setup and experimental verification. The procedures of obtaining the parameters in the experimental setup are explained. Using the comprehensive theory, a dynamic PET computer model of a phosphor-coated LED device has been developed. The simulation results compare well with the practical measurements, confirming the validity of the comprehensive theory in Part-1 of this paper. The new model provides novel equations for new information such as the power loss in phosphor coating and transients of the light emitted from the phosphor coating. Such information can be used for the designs of LED drivers and systems.

New Dynamic Photo-Electro-Thermal Modeling of Light-Emitting Diodes with Phosphor Coating as Light Converter
摘要: Phosphor-coated light-emitting diode (PC-LED) is the dominant LED technology for public lighting. This paper presents a comprehensive theory for analyzing and modeling phosphor coating in white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as a dynamic light converter. The new PC-LED model not only obeys the traditional diode equation, it includes the energy-storage and transient effects of the phosphor coating. Major control variables include energy storage in and the luminous flux from the phosphor coating. This new model enables the dynamic variations of luminous flux and energy storage and power loss in phosphor-coating to be accurately predicted. Part-1 of this paper provides the details of the theory and analysis leading to the new PC-LED model under the framework of the photo-electro-thermal theory. Details of the model parameter determination, model setup and experimental verification are included in Part-2. The model offers the important power loss equation of the phosphor coating which highlights the factors affecting the heat loss and the coating’s blackening effects. This equation can be used by engineers to design LED drivers in order to reduce the coating temperature and the blackening effects and to prolong LED lifetime.

A Hybrid MMC-Based Photovoltaic and Battery Energy Storage System
摘要: This paper proposes a new configuration and its control strategy for a modular multilevel converter (MMC)-based photovoltaic (PV)-battery energy storage (BES) system. In the MMC-based PV-BES system, each PV submodule is interfaced from its dc side with multiple PV generators using isolated dual active bridge (DAB) dc-dc converters. One BES system is embedded into each arm of the converter and is connected to the dc port of the associated BES submodule using multiple isolated DAB converters. The embedded BES systems are used to smooth the output power of the PV generators and limit the rate of change of the power delivered to the host grid. Moreover, they enable compensation of power mismatches between the arms and legs of the system by exchanging power with the arms of the converter. The paper then proposes a hybrid power mismatch elimination strategy using a combination of power exchange with the arms of the converter and internal power flow control of the MMC. The proposed hybrid power mismatch elimination strategy employs BES systems and differential currents to compensate power mismatches and transfer power between the arms and legs of the converter, respectively. The effectiveness of the proposed power smoothing technique using the embedded BES systems and hybrid power mismatch elimination strategy is demonstrated using time-domain simulations conducted on a switched model of the PV-BES system in PSCAD/EMTDC software environment.

A Dual-Discrete Model Predictive Control-based MPPT for PV systems
摘要: This paper presents a method that overcomes the problem of the confusion during fast irradiance change in the classical MPPTs as well as in model predictive control (MPC)-based MPPTs available in the literature. The previously introduced MPC-based MPPTs take into account the model of the converter only, which make them prone to the drift during fast environmental conditions. Therefore, the model of the PV array is also considered in the proposed algorithm, which allows it to be prompt during rapid environmental condition changes. It takes into account multiple previous samples of power, and based on that is able to take the correct tracking decision when the predicted and measured power differ (in case of drift issue). After the tracking decision is taken, it will be sent to a second part of the algorithm as a reference. The second part is used for following the reference provided by the first part, where the pulses are sent directly to the converter, without a modulator or a linear controller. The proposed technique is validated experimentally by using a buck converter, fed by a PV simulator. The tracking efficiency is evaluated according to EN50530 standard in static and dynamic conditions. The experimental results show that the proposed MPC-MPPT is a quick and accurate tracker under very fast changing irradiance, while maintaining high tracking efficiency even under very low irradiance.

An On-Chip Monitoring Circuit with 51-Phase PLL-Based Frequency Synthesizer for 8-Gb/s ODR Single-Ended Signaling Integrity Analysis
摘要: An on-chip monitoring circuit using a sub-sampling scheme, which consists of a 6-bit flash analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and a 51-phase phase-locked loop (PLL)-based frequency synthesizer, is proposed to analyze the signal integrity of a single-ended 8-Gb/s octal data rate (ODR) chip-to-chip interface with a source synchronous clocking scheme.

A Cyclic TDC using Variable Delay Circuit
摘要: A cyclic TDC can be implemented in a small area with high resolution but it takes long conversion time. To reduce a conversion time, we introduce variable delay circuits that can change a delay time of a pulse. We also introduce calibration techniques, an offset cancellation and delay matching, to improve linearity of the TDC. We confirmed through circuit simulation that the proposed circuit achieves a time resolution of 9.38 ps, dynamic range of 18.7 ns, sampling rate of 2 MS/s, and a power consumption of 11 mW at 1.8 V operation.

摘要: 1.5 kV DC link voltage has been a trend for the solar industry. Moving from 1 kV to 1.5 kV DC voltage can increase string length, enhance inverter conversion ability, increase array block sizes, and improve performance. Multilevel converters are the natural choices while the control becomes more complicated. If a simple two-level converter is adopted, the 1.7 kV device may not be applicable considering the voltage derating for certain failure rate. Therefore, devices with higher blocking voltage should be considered. This paper reports for the first time the performance characterization of 2.5 kV Silicon Carbide (SiC) MOSFET. The potential application of this device for 1.5 kV solar inverter is also evaluated.
