Direct Hot-Injection Synthesis of Lead Halide Perovskite Nanocubes in Acrylic Monomers for Ultrastable and Bright Nanocrystal–Polymer Composite Films
摘要: In recent years, lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have attracted significant attention in both fundamental research and commercial applications due to their excellent optical and optoelectrical properties. However, the protective ligands on the surface of the perovskites NCs could be easily removed after the tedious process of centrifugation, separation, and dispersion, which greatly hampers their stability against light, heat, moisture, and oxygen and limits their practical applications. Here we report a new post-processing-free strategy (i.e., without centrifugation, separation, and dispersion process) of using an UV-polymerizable acrylic monomer of lauryl methacrylate (LMA) as the solvent to synthesize CsPbBr3 NCs, and then adding polyester polyurethane acrylates oligomer, monomer (IBOA) and initiator for directly UV polymerization to fabricate NC-polymer composite films. These films exhibited an improved photoluminescence quantum yield (85-90%) than classic NC-film (40-50%), which were processed using octadecene (ODE) as the solvent for NC synthesis and post-processed for UV polymerization. Significantly, the as-fabricated films by post-processing-free strategy exhibited excellent photostability against strong Xe lamp illumination; while the other films using classic methods were quickly photo-degraded. Meanwhile, these NC-polymer composite films showed good stability against moisture and heating when aging in water at 50oC for over 200 hours. These films, along with K2SiF6:Mn4+ (KSF) phosphor emitters, were used as downconverters for blue LEDs in liquid crystal displays with a wide color gamut of 115% in the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) 1931 color space. This work provides a facile and effective strategy for the preparation of ultrastable and bright color-conversion NC films for the development of the next-generation wide color gamut displays.

Night-vision aid using see-through display for patients with retinitis pigmentosa
摘要: Purpose From an early stage, retinitis pigmentosa (RP) patients suffer from night blindness which causes nocturnal mobility difficulties. We created a wearable visual aid that uses a high-performance see-through display, and added a high-sensitivity camera with a complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor sensor. Here, we evaluate the device’s efficacy for helping night-blindness sufferers walk in the dark. Study design Prospective clinical study. Methods Twenty-eight subjects underwent binocular visual acuity testing in the dark without (power off) and with (power on) the device. The test was carried out in a darkened room. We recorded the number of trial errors and the time it took each subject to arrive at the goal both with and without the aid of our device. Results Our device effectively assists walking in RP patients with mobility problems in the dark. Conclusion Binocular visual acuity in the dark was significantly improved with the aid of our device. In the walking test, the number of errors decreased greatly with the device, and the travel time was significantly shortened.

Statistical validation of utility of head-mounted display projection-based experimental impression evaluation for sequential streetscapes
摘要: This study compared the impression structure of streetscapes gained from field experiments with that from head-mounted display virtual reality experiments. The results were as follows: (1) the field experiment experience had a slight influence on the impressions reported from the head-mounted display experiment; (2) few items exhibited significant differences in impression values for the two experiments; (3) the impression structure comprised three factors—'Openness,' 'Balance,' and 'Activity'—in both experiments, and (4) no significant difference appeared between the two experiments relative to the subscale scores of these three factors. These results show that head-mounted display experiments can substitute field experiments.

Functional requirements of automotive head-up displays: A systematic review of literature from 1994 to present
摘要: Despite the long history of automotive head-up displays (HUDs), what information they should display in different situations to best serve the driver remains unanswered. The lack of understanding hinders designing useful automotive HUD systems. In an effort to address this, the current study investigated the developer, researcher and user perspectives on the functional requirements of automotive HUDs through literature review. The review results indicated that: 1) the existing commercial HUDs perform largely the same functions as the conventional in-vehicle displays, 2) past research studies proposed various HUD functions for improving driver situation awareness and driving safety, 3) autonomous driving and other new technologies are giving rise to new HUD information, and 4) little research is currently available on HUD users’ perceived information needs. Based on the review results, this study provides insights into the functional requirements of automotive HUDs and also suggests some future research directions for automotive HUD design.

Phage-based assay for rapid detection of bacterial pathogens in blood by Raman spectroscopy
摘要: Sepsis is a systemic inflammatory response ensuing from presence and persistence of microorganisms in the bloodstream. The possibility to identify them at low concentrations may improve the problem of human health and therapeutic outcomes. So, sensitive and rapid diagnostic systems are essential to evaluate bacterial infections during the time, also reducing the cost. In this study, from random M13 phage display libraries, we selected phage clones that specifically bind surface of Staphyloccocus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli. Then, commercial magnetic beads were functionalized with phage clones through covalent bond and used as capture and concentrating of pathogens from blood. We found that phage-magnetic beads complex represents a network which enables a cheap, high sensitive and specific detection of the bacteria involved in sepsis by micro-Raman spectroscopy. The enter process required 6 h and has the limit of detection of 10 Colony Forming Units on 7 ml of blood (CFU/7 ml).

Optically switchable bistable guest–host displays in chiral-azobenzene- and dichroic-dye-doped cholesteric liquid crystals
摘要: Optically switchable bistable guest–host displays in chiral-azobenzene- and dichroic-dye-doped cholesteric liquid crystals (CA-DD-CLCs) are demonstrated. The CA-DD-CLCs in a LC cell treated by homeotropic alignment are initially in stable unwound textures. Given that all LC molecules in unwound textures are oriented perpendicularly to the substrates, the light absorbed by the doped DDs reaches the minimum value, which is considered the transparent state of the proposed CA-DD-CLCs. The CA-DD-CLCs are switched to fingerprint (FP) textures by illumination with ultraviolet (UV) light and can be switched back to unwound textures by illumination with green light. The optical switching between unwound and FP textures is based on the photo-tunable chirality of the doped CA via photoisomerization effect. The light absorbed by the doped DDs in FP textures reaches the maximum value, which is considered the dark state of the CA-DD-CLCs. Moreover, the performances of light absorption from the doped DDs when the CA-DD-CLCs are in unwound and FP textures is independent of the polarization of the incident light. Pattern information can be optically addressed (erased) in CA-DD-CLC cells by illumination with UV (green) light through a suitable photomask. The CA-DD-CLCs can be stabilized in FP textures for several tens of minutes in the dark environment. As such, the power is consumed only for the illumination of specific lights during the switching of CA-DD-CLCs between unwound and FP textures. Moreover, a transparent active matrix organic light-emitting diode (LED) display that is superimposed on top of a CA-DD-CLC cell embedded with a transparent light-guide film with suitable LED light sources for optical switching between unwound and FP textures, is proposed for augmented reality applications.

Step-shaped electrode for low-voltage and high-optical-efficiency blue-phase transflective liquid crystal displays
摘要: A step-shaped electrode design is proposed for Polymer Stabilised Blue Phase (PSBP) Transflective LCD (TR-LCD). This new electrode design is capable of delivering very high optical efficiency (both T and R) of >95% with operation voltage of ~13 V (or >~90% with ~9 V). The step-shaped electrode helps generate strong horizontal electric fields across the whole cell and suppress the formation of dead zone.

Dual-View Display Based on Spatial Psychovisual Modulation
摘要: Dual-view display is a technology that provides two different views concurrently for different users on a single medium. We propose a dual-view display system, where users can see one view through a pair of specific glasses (called personal view) and see another view without the glasses (called shared view). The display technology can be of great use in practice. For instance, in the application of information security display, the user with the specific glasses can see the private information but bystanders can only see an unrelated/disguising view. The dual-view display is based on an information display technology called spatial psychovisual modulation (SPVM). The rationale behind SPVM is that modern displays have high resolutions and can provide information beyond what human visual system can resolve, i.e., modern displays have spatial psychovisual redundancy. The redundancy of high-resolution displays can be exploited to achieve dual-view or even multi-view display. In this paper, we introduce heuristic and iterative algorithms for the dual-view display. The iterative algorithm utilizes the Gaussian-like spatial integration window of human eyes. Compared with the heuristic algorithm, the iterative algorithm has significant improvements for the shared view with preference in percentage of 90.2% on average. This paper serves as a guidance for dual-view-based applications. Moreover, the method discussed in this paper can be also used to explore the temporal redundancy of displays.
