  • Spectroscopic Properties of Er3+-Doped Particles-Containing Phosphate Glasses Fabricated Using the Direct Doping Method

    摘要: The effect of the incorporation of Er2O3-doped particles on the structural and luminescence properties of phosphate glasses was investigated. A series of different Er2O3-doped TiO2, ZnO, and ZrO2 microparticles was synthesized using soft chemistry and then added into various phosphate glasses after the melting at a lower temperature than the melting temperature. The compositional, morphological, and structural analyses of the particles-containing glasses were performed using elemental mapping by field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) with energy dispersive x-ray spectrometry (EDS) and x-ray diffraction (XRD). Additionally, the luminescence spectra and the lifetime values were measured to study the influence of the particles incorporation on the spectroscopic properties of the glasses. From the spectroscopic properties of the glasses with the composition 50P2O5-40SrO-10Na2O, a large amount of the Er2O3-doped particles is thought to dissolve during the glass melting. Conversely, the particles were found to survive in glasses with a composition 90NaPO3-(10 ? x)Na2O-xNaF (with x = 0 and 10 mol %) due to their lower processing temperature, thus clearly showing that the direct doping method is a promising technique for the development of new active glasses.

  • Synthesis, Characterization and Electrical Conductivity of Nano-Crystalline Erbium Sesquioxide by the Precipitation Method and Subsequent Calcination

    摘要: Due to its superior properties, erbium sesquioxide, Er2O3, is considered as an important material for applications in various fields such as corrosion-resistant coating, electrical insulating coating, in sensing membranes, semiconductor devices, as catalyst, and for applications in nuclear engineering. In the open literature there is a lack of information about the preparation of Er2O3 nanoparticles using the homogenous precipitation and subsequent calcination route. In this paper a facile method for the synthesis of Er2O3 nanoparticles is suggested. The fabrication was carried out by using the homogeneous precipitation of an erbium ions using sodium hydroxide followed by the calcination process. The influence of: (i) the pH value (9-12) during precipitation process, and (ii) the calcination temperature 300-700 °C on the structural and textural properties of the solids obtained will be addressed. The thermal events accompanying the heat treatment of the dried parent was monitored using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Various physicochemical techniques were used for investigating the structure and morphology of Er2O3 nanoparticles. These include X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra, filed emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Moreover, the electrical conductivity of the calcined samples with temperature was measured.

  • Structural properties of Urfa stone doped with erbium oxide

    摘要: In this study, we investigated the structural properties of Urfa stone (US) doped with erbium oxide (Er2O3). Solid US was powdered by using an agate mortar, and its elemental composition was determined using inductive coupling plasma (ICP) methods. Varying amounts of Er2O3 (5, 10, 20, 30, and 40%) were added as a dopant to the US powder using mechanical alloying methods. The resultant samples were sintered at 1000 °C for 1 h. The structural properties of the Er2O3-doped US samples were subsequently investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), and photoluminescence methods. Results from the XRD analysis of the Er2O3-doped US powder indicated two crystalline phases: (1) calcium oxide (CaO) or lime and (2) Er2O3. After the samples were sintered at 1000 °C, CaO, Er2O3, calcium carbonate (CaCO3), and mixed crystalline phases were observed. Results from the FTIR analysis of the Er2O3-doped US samples indicated absorption bands at 711.91, 872.08, and 1396.87 cm?1 in the spectra. Finally, photoluminescence analysis results indicated a shift in the emission and excitation bands to longer and shorter wavelengths, respectively, in the solid state (non-aqueous media) US-Er complex.

  • Nanocrystalline ZnO doped lanthanide oxide: An efficient photocatalyst for the degradation of diesel pollutant in seawater under visible light irradiation

    摘要: In this study, a ZnO doped Er2O3 photocatalyst is employed to degrade diesel pollutant in seawater under visible light irradiation. The photocatalyst was prepared by a precipitation method and was characterized by SEM and XRD analysis. The experimental results proved that the nanocrystalline photocatalysts were highly active in the visible region. The photocatalytic degradation efficiency of diesel was analysed by various experimental parameters namely dosage, doping ratio, initial concentration of diesel, pH value, concentration of H2O2 and illumination time. The degradation of diesel pollution in seawater was optimized by orthogonal experiment. According to the results, the removal rate of diesel is less than 30 % without any catalysts (only evaporation). The best effect exists when the dose of catalysts was 0.6 g/L, doping ratio of catalysts was 10%, initial concentration of diesel was 0.2 g/L, pH value was 8, concentration of H2O2 was 10 mg/L, illumination time was 1 h. The removal rate of diesel can reach 99.38 %. This study would make ZnO utilize sunlight more efficiently and accelerate the practical application of photocatalytic technology in organic pollutants treatment region.

  • Improvement of dielectric breakdown strength and energy storage performance in Er2O3–modified 0.95Sr0.7Ba0.3Nb2O6-0.05CaTiO3 lead-free ceramics

    摘要: In this study, 0.95Sr0.7Ba0.3Nb2O6-0.05CaTiO3-x wt. % Er2O3 ceramics (SBNCTEx; x = 0-5) were synthesized using traditional solid-state method, and we investigated the microstructure, energy storage properties as well as the relationship between dielectric breakdown strength and interfacial polarization. As compared with pure 0.95Sr0.7Ba0.3Nb2O6-0.05CaTiO3 ceramics, the Er2O3 dopants suppressed the grain growth of SBNCTEx, and the doped ones showed the dense microstructure. The secondary phase was found for x ≥ 1 according to the EDS results, and the influence of the secondary phase on relative dielectric breakdown strength has also been studied. The dielectric breakdown strength increased from 18.1kV/mm to 34.4 kV/mm, which is good for energy storage. The energy storage density of 0.28J/cm3 and the energy storage efficiency of 91.4% were obtained in the SBNCTE5 ceramics. The results indicate that SBNCTE ceramics can be used as energy storage capacitors.
