A Computational Efficient Nyquist Shaping Approach for Short-Reach Optical Communications
摘要: Recently, Subcarrier Half-Cycle Modulation (HC-SCM) was proposed to achieve high spectral efficiency in intensity-modulator direct-detection optical links. This paper shows the HC-SCM scheme has a high computational load and proposes the rational Oversampled Subcarrier Modulation (OVS-SCM) as a computational efficient alternative that, furthermore, improves the spectral efficiency. The presented experimental results show that our 256-QAM proposal allows to transmit below the hard-decision forward error correction, with a throughput of 17.8 Gb/s in a 2.5 GHz bandwidth, and a spectral efficiency of 7.2 b/s/Hz, through 20 km of single-mode optical fiber.

摘要: In recent years, many FPGA vendors have come up with high speed transceiver blocks which handle all the physical layer signaling and Media Access layer operations required to achieve robust high speed communication. Also, optical communication is suitable for high bandwidth applications and gaining popularity over any other wired media which are currently used with FPGA implementations. This proposed research work is to focus on achieving optical fiber link with Xilinx Gigabit transceiver block for data rates of over 3.125 Gbps transmitted serially. The optical digital link will be established between two FPGA boards which are Spartan 6 Series SP605 boards which can be coupled to optical transceiver modules known as SFP. The basic GTP MAC wrapper core from Xilinx is being used as base for data transmission and reception. GTP performance is validated with the help of Xilinx bit error test known as IBERT. The results of the IBERT test are observed and calculated using Chip-Scope-Pro analyzer to obtain the faults in connections, defects in medium, bit error ratio and bit error detection during transmission and reception. Various ports in each GTP tile required for clock, reset, encoding, decoding, serialization, deserialization, error correction, polarity control, pattern checking, etc are used to run a code which will enable the actual transmission and reception of information bits with high data rate with very low bit error rate.

Evaluation of Low-Cost Thermal Laser Stimulation for Data Extraction and Key Readout
摘要: Recent attacks using thermal laser stimulation (TLS) have shown that it is possible to extract cryptographic keys from the battery-backed memory on state-of-the-art field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). However, the professional failure analysis microscopes usually employed for these attacks cost in the order of 500k to 1M dollars. In this work, we evaluate the use of a cheaper commercial laser fault injection station retrofitted with a suitable amplifier and light source to enable TLS. We demonstrate that TLS attacks are possible at a hardware cost of around 100k dollars. This constitutes a reduction of the resources required by the attacker by a factor of at least five. We showcase two actual attacks: data extraction from the SRAM memory of a low-power microcontroller and decryption key extraction from a 20-nm technology FPGA device. The strengths and weaknesses of our low-cost approach are then discussed in comparison with the conventional failure analysis equipment approach. In general, this work demonstrates that TLS backside attacks are available at a much lower cost than previously expected.

摘要: Narrow laser echo signal processing plays a decisive role for digital lidar ranging system, especially, in time-of-flight (TOF) measurement accuracy and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). It will achieve more precise resolution for time measurement with high- speed analog-to-digital converter (ADC), but it also means more expensive. Therefore, a method using transmission pulse spacing modulation, is proposed to realize high-frequency sampling with low-speed analog-to-digital converter, and then the resolution of time-measurement depends on the relationship between the modulation spacing of driving pulse and the sampling period. Consequently, the resolution can be raised to 625 ps, which is suitable for high precise time measurement. Besides, since the power of echo signal is inversely proportional to the square of the distance according to the radar function, the echo signal is weak and may be contaminated by the environment and electronic noise for the long-range lidar. Data accumulation is used to improve the SNR for the echo signal. Both simulation and experimental results show the desirability of this method.

Free Space Optical Communication (System Design, Modeling, Characterization and Dealing with Turbulence) || 5. Low power and compact RSM and neural-controller design for beam wandering mitigation with a horizontal-path propagating Gaussian-beam wave: focused beam case
摘要: Beam wander on the detector plane is one of the main causes of major power loss which severely degrades the performance of Free Space Optical (FSO) links. Confronted with this big problem, designing a suitable controller to compensate beam wandering at a fast rate so as to increase beam stability becomes significant. This chapter presents an investigation of the performance of two types of controller designed for increasing the stability of the beam on the detector plane under dynamic disturbances. The first design is based on Taguchi’s method: Response Surface Model (RSM) controller while the second is the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) method (neural-controller). These controllers process the beam spot information and generate the necessary outputs to mitigate beam wandering, so as to perfectly couple the Power In the Bucket (PIB): receiver aperture, into the detector. Pipelined-parallel architecture for both controllers are proposed and developed in a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). The implementation of these two candidate controllers is described in detail as installed at the receiver station. Evidence of the suitability and the effectiveness of the proposed controllers in terms of prediction exactness, prediction error, reduction of beam wander, response to impulse and effective scintillation index are provided through experimental results from the FSO link established for the horizontal range of 0.5 km at an altitude of 15.25 m.

32.3: <i>Invited Paper:</i> Design of a High Performance Head Mounted 3D Display Using Micro‐OLEDs
摘要: This paper documents the development of a high performance head mounted 3D displays using Micro-OLEDs. The optical system couples commercial full resolution 1920*1080 pixel 0.71inch OLED microdisplay, having a diagonal field of view (FOV) of 53 degree and exit pupil diameter over 7mm and eye relief larger than 14 mm And the image distortion is less than 1.5%. An MTF of over 0.6 was achieved at 30lp/mm, ensuring a high image viewing quality of the display. The optical engine implements the diopter adjustment function, supporting diopter correction from +3D to -8D without degrading image quality. A driving solution based on FPGA is developed to support various high definition 3D formats.

摘要: This article describes the upcoming development of a parametric-optical laser measurement system for characterization of surfaces inline some production process. The measurement system is based on previously known approaches for characterization of specular surfaces using coherent light and auto-correlation on the resulting speckle intensity distribution. In order to apply these methods inline, a significantly increased measurement rate has to be reached, compared to existing solutions. This shall be achieved by modifications of the measurement process, use of hardware acceleration for image capturing and processing, and optimization of the processing algorithms.

Femtosecond Laser Microprinting of a Polymer Optical Fiber Interferometer for High-Sensitivity Temperature Measurement
摘要: The BRAM block is a configurable memory module that attaches to a variety of BRAM interface controller. BRAM serves as a relatively large memory structure (i.e. larger than distributed RAMs or a bunch of D-flip-flop grouped together, but much smaller than off chip memory resources). In addition, multiple blocks can be cascaded to create still larger memory. The failure configuration type of BRAM in read operation was screened out by automatic test equipment (ATE). The failure pattern was created in Vivado which integrated logic analyzer (ILA) was inserted to monitor the failure BRAM data and compared against good BRAM data. The successful fault isolation of BRAM failure was mainly relied on pattern analysis as well as BRAM configuration.
