Laser-stimulated piezo-optical and third harmonic generation studies for Na2O–Sb2O3 glass ceramics-influence of gold ions
摘要: Sodium antimonate glass ceramics with different concentrations of Au2O3 were synthesized. The prepared samples were characterized by XRD, XPS, SEM and TEM techniques. These studies have revealed that the samples consist of multiple crystalline phases composed of Sb3+, Sb5+, Au3+ ions, and Au0 particles; moreover these studies have indicated growing proportion of Au0 particles and Sb5+crystal phases (Na2Sb2O6) with increase of Au2O3 concentration. IR and Raman spectral studies have pointed out an increasing degree of polymerization of the glass network with increase of Au2O3 content while optical absorption studies indicated surface plasmon resonance effects. Nd: YAG laser (λ = 1320?nm and pulse width 8?ns) was used for inducing third harmonic generation (THG) signal. Later, THG signal intensity of Nd: YAG laser (λ = 1064?nm and pulse width of 20?ns) vs fundamental beam power density was recorded. The results indicated the maximum intensity for the samples containing a low concentration of Au2O3. For inducing piezo-optical effects, Nd: YAG laser (λ = 1064?nm) and its doubled frequency beam λ = 532?nm (with simultaneous mechanical pressure) were used. The cw He-Ne laser of 20?mW (with beam diameter about 0.5?mm) was used as probing beam for measuring the piezo-optical effects in the photo-polarized samples. The variation of the intensity of the THG beam and piezo-optical coefficients were found to be the maximal for the samples mixed with small quantities of Au2O3. The detailed analysis of XRD, SEM, EPR, IR, optical absorption spectral results suggested that concentrations of Na3SbO3 and also Au2O3 crystal phases are maximal in these?samples and are responsible for the maximal photoinduced effects, while the increasing presence of Na2Sb2O6 crystal phases and Au0 metallic particles are found to be hindrance for generation of third harmonic beams and also piezo-optical effects. Overall, the obtained results of nonlinear optical (NLO) and piezo-optical studies indicated that Na2O-Sb2O3 glass ceramics containing small traces of Au2O3 are useful for considering them for nonlinear optical triggering devices and piezo-electric devices.

摘要: The chapter discusses the phenomena produced by mechanical means on unannealed glass, focusing on how mechanical strain can impart a structural character to glass analogous to that of a crystal, affecting the motion of the ether within it and exhibiting chromatic effects with polarised light. It describes experiments involving straining a rectangular bar of ordinary glass and observing the light passing through it, as well as the effects of squeezing a thick square plate of glass in a vice. The chapter also explores the impact of molecular forces due to heat and cooling on glass, and the permanent, splendid effects produced by unannealed glass that has been rapidly and unequally cooled.

Analysis of the Processing‐Pressure Dependent Refractive Index of Polycarbonate by Transmission Measurements of Glass‐Filled Specimen
摘要: In this study, the influence of pressure during processing on the refractive index (RI) of polycarbonate (PC) was investigated by transmission measurements on glass-filled samples with a spectrometer. In order to isolate the pressure dependence of the RI from other influencing parameters such as cooling rate, orientation and stress states, the samples were prepared in a pressure-specific volume-Temperature (pvT) instrument under constant cooling rate and temperature history and without shear effects. Subsequently, the RI was determined at the intersection of the dispersion curves of the glass and the polymer by evaluating the wavelength of the maximal transmission of the samples. The mean RI over the entire cross section of the sample is determined by the transmission measurements without complex sample preparation. The investigations show that the RI of PC increases by 3.26 E-6 per bar with increasing pressure.

Glass above Megabar Pressures up to 160?GPa Revealed by X-Ray Raman Scattering
摘要: As oxygen may occupy a major volume of oxides, a densification of amorphous oxides under extreme compression is dominated by reorganization of oxygen during compression. X-ray Raman scattering (XRS) spectra for SiO2 glass up to 1.6 Mbar reveal the evolution of heavily contracted oxygen environments characterized by a decrease in average O-O distance and the potential emergence of quadruply coordinated oxygen (oxygen quadcluster). Our results also reveal that the edge energies at the centers of gravity of the XRS features increase linearly with bulk density, yielding the first predictive relationship between the density and partial density of state of oxides above megabar pressures. The extreme densification paths with densified oxygen in amorphous oxides shed light upon the possible existence of stable melts in the planetary interiors.

Color‐Based Optical Detection of Glass Transitions on Microsecond Timescales Enabled by Exciplex Dynamics
摘要: Every measurement technique operates on a given timescale and measurements using emissive small molecule sensors are no exception. A family of luminescent sensors providing first optical characterization of dynamic phenomena in polymers at a timescale of several microseconds is described. This performance originates from the dynamics manifested in the excited state of the sensor molecules where diffusioncontrolled events select the emission color while radiative phenomena define the global operation timescale. Since the mechanism responsible for signal generation is confined to the short lived excited state of emissive probe, it is possible observe an unprecedented link between the timescale of sensory action and that of photoluminescence. An application of this new methodology is demonstrated by performing general, short timescale detection of glass transitions in a temperature ranges precluding the informative range of conventional techniques by tens of degrees.

Gain-switched Dy3+:ZBLAN fiber laser operating around 3 μm
摘要: A gain-switched Dy3+-doped ZBLAN fiber laser operating at 2.943 μm is experimentally reported for the first time to the best of our knowledge. The laser was pumped by a 1.1 μm Q-switched ytterbium (III) fiber laser constructed in-house. A stable pulse train is achieved with repetition rates spanning between 25 and 100 kHz. For the repetition rate of 50 kHz, stable 183 ns pulses with an energy of 0.72 μJ and peak power of 4 W are recorded. By using a longer length of Dy3+-doped ZBLAN fiber, gain-switched operation was achieved at a wavelength larger than 3 μm.

Femtosecond laser-induced non-centrosymmetric surface microstructures on bulk metallic glass for unidirectional droplet micro-displacement
摘要: Unidirectional droplet motion without energy input has attracted considerable attention in various potential applications. We report on the fabrication of unconventional laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) for unidirectional droplet micro-displacement by femtosecond laser at large incident angle. In order to overcome the mechanical durability of the existing soft materials such as PDMS for controlling the droplet, Zr-based bulk metallic glass (Zr-BMG) is used to fabricate the typical non-centrosymmetric unconventional LIPSS, which include micro-sized elliptical arc-shaped structures and nano-ripples with the central spatial periodicity of 400 nm. The spots and the grating of unconventional LIPSS on Zr-BMG are fabricated to construct the functional surface structures by femtosecond laser irradiation. The unidirectional micro-displacement of water droplet on Zr-BMG was achieved using functional surface structures. For better understanding the fabrication of unconventional LIPSS, the underlying formation mechanism was revealed by numerical simulations. This work gives a fast, precise and low-cost method to fabricate the non-centrosymmetric surface micro/nano-structures on metal materials for unidirectional droplet motion in microfluidics.

Manufacture and spectroscopic analysis of Tm<sup>3+</sup>-doped silica glass and microstructure optical fiber through the laser sintering technique
摘要: We demonstrated Tm3+-doped silica glass rod was successfully manufactured by laser sintering technique and it was made into Tm3+-doped microstructure optical fiber by stack-capillary-draw method. Based on the absorption spectrum, the core glass shows outstanding spectroscopic properties through Judd-Ofelt analysis. Fiber core-cladding structure was preserved completely without any crystallization in the core. Besides, a self-built fiber laser at 1.95 μm produces 740 mW output power with a slope efficiency of 16.73 %. The results prove that our laser sintering technique is a promising preparation method to acquire fiber materials for 2.0 μm laser.

Optical and luminescent properties of Pr-doped Li2O MgO Al2O3SiO2 glasses
摘要: A high conversion e?ciency is a key factor for phosphor applications. Because the number of studies on the 5d–4f emissions of Pr3+ in oxide glasses has been limited, it is worth examining the relationship between the luminescence properties of Pr3+ and the chemical composition of the glass. Herein, we demonstrate the luminescence properties of Pr3+-doped aluminosilicate glasses. Although the internal quantum e?ciency is not as high as that of conventional Ce3+-doped glasses, a faster decay (on the order of nanoseconds) is attractive for many di?erent applications. An emissions band can be observed under X-ray irradiation, which di?ers signi?cantly from photoluminescence. Although the Pr3+–P-codoped samples exhibit higher quantum e?ciency than P-free glass owing to a blue shift of the optical absorption edge, the e?ect of P doping was not observed during X-ray induced scintillation or in the pulse height spectra under 252Cf irradiation.
