  • Tunable graphene-on-insulator band-stop filter at the mid-infrared region

    摘要: This paper presents a novel graphene-on-insulator (GOI) band-stop filter in the mid-infrared region. The finite-difference time-domain method is used to model our GOI basic and advanced filters and calculate their transmission spectra for different graphene layers at every gate-source voltage. The numerical results reveal the resonance wavelength, modulation depth, and bandwidth of the advanced filter can be tuned in the range of 11.5 to 30 μm, ?57 to ?60 dB, and 2 to 4 μm, respectively. These results are obtained by variation of the physical parameters, such as the number of overlapped filters, the number of graphene layers, and the applied chemical potential. Our results indicate that the proposed advanced band-stop filter is an excellent device to be used in an ultra-fast active graphene-based plasmonic systems for THz applications.

  • Infrared Bioengineering Feedback Cabin for Recovering Functional Reserves of a Human Organism

    摘要: An energy-effective mobile infrared cabin has been developed for activating the functional reserves of a human organism in medicinal, health-improving, and sports practice has been developed. The cabin maintains deep penetration of optical radiation into the tissues of a human being by using near infrared band radiators. The distinctive feature of the facility being proposed is the realization of bioengineering feedback by recording basic physiological indices of the user and automatic control of the infrared procedure parameters based on the results of monitoring. Minimization of thermal load generated by infrared radiators on the user′s organism allows one to expand the sphere of application of the infrared cabin by eliminating the limitations on using it by patients with arterial hypertension and cardiovascular insuf? ciency.

    摘要: Wide band, insensitive incidence angle graphene metasurface for polarization conversion is introduced in this work. A high Polarization Conversion Ratio (PCR) is verified in Mid-Infrared band by using a graphene as an upper conductor for metasurface. The metasurface construction is composed of a single layer of graphene, which has a half ring slots with rectangular slot connecting between them while the whole shape is rotated with 45o. Silicon dioxide substrate is used with a metal backed ground. The simulation results of the proposed metasurface indicate that a linearly polarized incident wave is converted to a circular polarized one over more than one THz along the Mid-Infrared frequency band. PCR has a maximum value of approximately 98% at 1.45 THz. The polarization conversion ratio is studied for different angles of incidence, with stable value for a wide range of incident angles.

  • Tunable reflected group delay from the graphene/hBN heterostructure at infrared frequencies

    摘要: In this paper, we theoretically investigated the re?ected group delay from the graphene/hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) heterostructure in the infrared band. Since the signi?cant Lorentz resonance characteristic of the dielectric constant of hBN in the bands of near 7.28 μm and 12.72 μm, the new graphene/hBN heterostructure is used to realize ?exible switching of re?ected group delay by the Lorentz resonance mechanism. It is shown that the re?ected group delay can be e?ectively enhanced by tuning the Fermi energy or the number of graphene layers. Moreover, the re?ected group delay can be tuned positive or negative depending on the hBN thickness or incident angle. These results will be useful for design of graphene-based optical delay devices in the infrared band.

  • Characterisation of silicon fibre Bragg grating in near-infrared band for strain and temperature sensing

    摘要: Fibre Bragg grating inscription in the crystalline silicon (Si)-core fibre is described using visible light femtosecond laser pulses. The femtosecond pulses at 517 nm propagate through the transparent silica glass cladding and are fully absorbed by the Si core generating locally high temperatures and stress fields in forming the grating periods. The Si FBGs were characterised in reflection, calibrated for a first time as strain and temperature sensors and compared with that of FBGs inscribed in standard silica fibres.
