  • Teachers attitudes towards liquid crystal display (LCD) panel interactive board applications

    摘要: This study determined the viewpoints of teachers from different branches on using the interactive boards placed in classrooms in high schools, which are expected to replace the classical boards in the context of FATIH Project by the Ministry of National Education. Single Review Model was used in the present study where 21 teachers participated from different branches of high schools and the installation of interactive boards was completed in Fall Season of 2013 to 2014 Academic Year. The data of the study were collected by using the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) panel interactive board attitude scale consisting of 10 questions. The data were examined by using descriptive and content analysis methods and the findings were listed and tabulated according to the questions of the scale. When the results were analyzed, it was observed that the teachers who participated in the study made use of the LCD panel interactive boards technologies frequently in their classes for educational activities such as presentation of slides and digital books or showing of films, videos, pictures, etc. Despite some infrastructural problems and lack of software, they stated that the advantages brought by the use of interactive boards in education were more than the drawbacks, and it was adopted by almost all teachers. However, in order to place the use of interactive boards in the desired level for all teachers, more than one in-service training are needed to cover the needs that are determined in the present study.

  • Validating attentive locomotion training using interactive treadmill: an fNIRS study

    摘要: Background: Existing treadmill-based locomotion training, which has been used for gait function recovery, still has limitations, such as less attentive training. Interactive treadmills (ITMs) were developed to overcome these limitations, but it has not yet been verified that ITMs can make the user pay closer attention to walk training. Methods: An experimental comparison between ITMs and conventional treadmills was conducted by measuring the level of the user’s attention using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). To consider the effect of task complexity on the subject’s attention, we provided two (slow and fast) speed conditions for walking on both treadmills. Results: Both the cortical activity images and oxygenated hemoglobin (oxyHb) changes showed that the level of attention to walking induced by the ITM was significantly higher than that induced by the conventional treadmill. We found that the walking speed on the ITM also affected the level of attention. Conclusion: ITM-based locomotion training would be a promising solution to the limitations of existing treadmill-based locomotion training currently used to improve gait function recovery.

    摘要: Smart-fabric interactive-textile systems offer exciting new possibilities, provided that they exhibit sufficient robustness and autonomy to be reliably deployed in critical applications. Textile multiantenna systems, unobtrusively integrated in a professional garment, are key components of such systems, as they set up energy-efficient and stable wireless body-centric communication links. Yet, their functionality may be further extended by exploiting their surface as energy-harvesting platform. Different state-of-the-art energy harvesters are suitable for compact integration onto a textile antenna. We demonstrate this by integrating a power management system, together with multiple diverse scavenging transducers and a storage module, on a well-chosen textile antenna topology. We provide guidelines to ensure that the additional hardware does not affect the textile antenna’s performance. Simultaneous scavenging from different energy sources significantly increases the autonomy of a wearable system, in the meanwhile reducing battery size.

  • A Multi-Attribute Decision Making Process with Immediate Probabilistic Interactive Averaging Aggregation Operators of T-Spherical Fuzzy Sets and Its Application in the Selection of Solar Cells

    摘要: The objective of this paper is to present new interactive averaging aggregation operators by assigning associate probabilities for T-spherical fuzzy sets (T-SFSs). T-SFS is a generalization of several existing theories such as intuitionistic fuzzy sets and picture fuzzy sets to handle imprecise information. Under such an environment, we developed a series of averaging interactive aggregation operators under the features that each element is represented with T-spherical fuzzy numbers. Various properties of the proposed operators are also investigated. Further, to rank the different T-SFSs, we exhibit the new score functions and state their some properties. To demonstrate the presented algorithm, a decision-making process algorithm is presented with T-SFS features. To save non-renewable resources and to the protect environment, the use of renewable resources is important. Solar energy is one of the best renewable energy resources and is also environment-friendly and thus the selection of solar cells is typically a multi-attribute decision-making problem. Therefore, the applicability of the developed algorithm is demonstrated with a numerical example in the selection of the solar cells and comparison of their performance with the several existing approaches.

  • Soiling of Photovoltaic Modules: Comparing between Two Distinct Locations within the Framework of Developing the Photovoltaic Soiling Index (PVSI)

    摘要: This article evaluates the impact of dust accumulation on the performance of photovoltaic (PV) modules in two different locations inside Egypt, Cairo and Beni-Suef. Two identical PV modules were used for that purpose, where each module was exposed to the outdoor environment in order to collect dust naturally for a period of three weeks, each in its corresponding location. The approximate dust density on each of the two PV modules was estimated. Moreover, the electrical performance was evaluated and compared under the same indoor testing conditions. The results show a better electrical performance and less dust density for the PV module located in Cairo compared to that located in Beni-Suef. The results further provide an indication for the impact of soling in different locations within the same country through a clear and simple procedure. In addition, it paves the way for establishing a Photovoltaic Soiling Index (PVSI) in terms of a Photovoltaic Dust Coefficient, as well as a Photovoltaic Dust Interactive Map. The product of such concepts could be used by the Photovoltaic systems designers everywhere in order to estimate the impact of dust on the future performance of PV modules in small and large installations in different regions around the globe, and during different times of the year as well.

  • Symmetric-component decoupled control of grid-connected inverters for voltage unbalance correction and harmonic compensation

    摘要: In this paper, a strategy is investigated for control of distributed generators to additionally support the local grid on top of conventional electricity generation. The strategy decouples unbalance and harmonic compensation in the phase sequences and the frequency domain for a grid-connected inverter with local unbalanced and distorting loads. Unlike conventional control schemes for grid-connected converters, the proposed strategy is designed to be sequence-asymmetric for the purpose of unbalanced and harmonic local voltage correction. A frequency-domain Norton equivalent model is derived to illustrate the working principle of the strategy. Accordingly, it is shown that following a frequency-domain decoupled method the fundamental positive-sequence, the harmonic symmetrical sequence, the fundamental zero-sequence and the fundamental negative-sequence components can be regulated independently. Consistent to the model analysis, experiments validate the reduction of the local voltage total harmonic distortion and unbalanced factor when the converter is programmed for both harmonic sinking and voltage unbalance correction.

  • A holographic mobile-based application for practicing pronunciation of basic English vocabulary for Spanish speaking children

    摘要: This paper describes a holographic mobile-based application designed to help Spanish-speaking children to practice the pronunciation of basic English vocabulary words. The mastery of vocabulary is a fundamental step when learning a language but is often perceived as boring. Producing the correct pronunciation is frequently regarded as the most difficult and complex skill for new learners of English. In order to address these problems this research takes advantage of the power of multi-channel stimuli (sound, image and interaction) in a mobile-based hologram application in order to motivate students and improve their experience of practicing. We adapted the prize-winning HolograFX game and developed a new mobile application to help practice English pronunciation. A 3D holographic robot that acts as a virtual teacher interacts via voice with the children. To test the tool we carried out an experiment with 70 Spanish pre-school children divided into three classes, the control group using traditional methods such as images in books and on the blackboard, and two experimental groups using our drills and practice software. One experimental group used the mobile application without the holographic game and the other experimental group used the application with the holographic game. We performed pre-test and post-test performance assessments, a satisfaction survey and emotion analysis. The results are very promising. They show that the use of the holographic mobile-based application had a significant impact on the children?s motivation. It also improved their performance compared to traditional methods used in the classroom.

    摘要: Eye movements are captured using the electrooculography method. This method uses an electrical potential which is able to measure thank to the eye movement and change a dipole of it. The aim was the design and realization of a light target made of LEDs, which illumination is controlled by movements of eyes. It was developed hardware for eye’s movement monitoring to provide analogue signals for signal processing. The connection between the EOG device, the light target and the PC was provided by the NI ELVIS II. The evaluated results were used for the developing of interactive application. The interactive application was developed as a feedback of eye movement. The LabView graphical development environmen was used. It was created an application as a feedback of eye’s movement, the ”SNAKE” game.

    摘要: As computing power grew over the past decades, the bottleneck that remained, and remains even now, is communication between the user and the computer. Human Computer Interfaces attempt to be more ergonomic as well as try to improve bandwidth. This paper presents three different HCI solutions that use computer vision for different contexts: the first is a prototype customizable ‘paper keyboard’ which uses stereo vision, statistical foreground detection and optical flow to detect both striking (as on keys) and stroking actions (as on a touchpad) made on a customized keyboard/touchpad surface printed on ordinary paper. This allows the custom use of multilingual, pictorial, gaming-oriented, purely numerical disposable input devices. We next briefly introduce two more systems: an interactive, inexpensive, vandal proof, large public display, the ‘e-signboard’, and a home appliance control system based on visual recognition of hand gestures. All three systems have been prototyped successfully.

  • Reimagining STEM Education and Training with e-REAL. 3D and Holographic Visualization, Immersive and Interactive Learning for an Effective Flipped Classroom

    摘要: While the 19th and the 20th centuries were, in education, mainly about standardization, the 21st century is about visualization, interaction, customization, gamification and flipped teaching. What today we know about learning from cognitive psychology is that people learn by practicing, with feedback to tell them what they're doing right and wrong and how to get better. For STEM education, that means they need to practice thinking like a scientist in the field. So e-REAL is a cornerstone: developed as workplace learning system in a number of fields (from medical simulation to soft skills development within the continuing education), it’s an ideal solution to root a practical – but not simplicistic - approach for STEM education.
