Self-starting mode-locked Tm-doped fiber laser using a hybrid structure of no core - graded index multimode fiber as the saturable absorber
摘要: We experimentally demonstrated a passively mode-locked all-fiber Tm laser using a no-core-graded-index multimode fiber structure as a saturable absorber based on the nonlinear multimode interference. Stable fundamentally mode-locking operation was obtained at a pump threshold of 180 mW. The output soliton pulses had a centre wavelength, spectral width, pulse duration, and repetition rate of 1895.7 nm, 3.3 nm, 1.25 ps, and 18.91 MHz, respectively. This is a simple, low-cost, stable, and convenient laser oscillator, with many potential applications in eye-safe ultrafast photonics.

Mega-Hertz repetition rate broadband nano-second pulses from an actively mode-locked Yb-fiber laser
摘要: This work demonstrates an actively mode-locked all-normal dispersion Yb-fiber ring laser, delivering pulses of few nano-seconds (ns) to sub-ns duration at a 4 MHz repetition rate. Employing a filterless cavity architecture and different, long-length intra-cavity nonlinear fibers; a broadband output spectrum in the 1060–1140 nm wavelength region was obtained. With an increasing pump power, the pulse width reduced along with the appearence of new pulses, resulting into a muti-pulsing output. For a fixed pump power, the number of pulses and the amount of spectral broadening varied for different non-linear fibers. In the multi-pulsing state, the pulses were found to be located seperately in both time and wavelength, where Raman stokes corresponding to individual pulses could also be observed. The maximum output pulse energy achieved in a single pulse state was around 8.7 nJ, which increased to 14.5 nJ in a multi-pulse state. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first demonstration of a filterless active mode-locked fiber ring laser producing high-repetition rate broadband nano-second pulses in single and multi-pulse states at 1 μm.

Environmentally Stable 1.56-??m Femtosecond Laser System With Discontinuous Selectable Repetition Rate
摘要: We demonstrate here an environmentally stable and compact Er-doped fiber laser system capable of delivering sub-100-fs pulse duration with discontinuous selectable repetition rate from 10 to 70 MHz. This laser source employs a SESAM harmonic mode-locked soliton laser to facilitate tunable repetition rate. A single-mode-fiber (SMF) amplifier and a double-cladding-fiber (DCF) amplifier (both with double-pass configuration) bridged by a three-stage YVO4-based divider are used to manage the dispersion map and boost the seed pulses. With the help of ×8 replicas, the seed pulses are simultaneously amplified and compressed with 90% recombining efficiency, generating 4.60-nJ pulse energy at 10 MHz and 6.13-nJ pulse energy at 70 MHz. The main advantage of the proposed laser system is that when pulse repetition rate is switched on-demand, the pulse duration can be kept almost unchanged only by simply adjusting the pump powers of the fiber amplifiers, instead of changing any optical device (the spacing between gratings or the length of fibers).

All-fiber short-pulse vortex laser with adjustable pulse width
摘要: A laser with short pulse width and direct output of a vortex beam was reported herein. This laser was fabricated from a nonlinear loop mirror (NOLM) and a coupler composed of a single mode fiber and few-mode fiber fused together. The NOLM is responsible for generating pulses, and the coupler acts as a beam splitter and mode converter. Two stable vortex modes can be formed by adjusting the polarization controller, whose pulse widths are 1.098 ps and 542 fs, respectively.

Discovery of Several New Families of Saturable Absorbers for Ultrashort Pulsed Laser Systems
摘要: Saturable Absorber (SA) is a key element of any passive mode-locked laser system to provide ultrashort laser system. So far various materials have been proposed that could be used for this purpose. However, the field is still looking for new ways to make the fabrication process easier and cost-effective. Another challenge in testing mode-locked laser systems using various SA samples is the lack of knowledge in preparing these by laser physicists given this is outside their remit of expertise. In this study, we have proposed a novel method to produce these SAs from plastic materials and glycol. Our new method relies upon increase in thickness up to a value where the modulation depth is enough to give stable ultrashort pulses. Although we have shown this method for four materials; similar approach could be applied to any material. this will open the door of unlimited families of SAs that could be easily prepared and applied without any prior knowledge in material sciences.

Ultrafast mode-locked fiber laser with Zirconium disulfide on D-shaped Fiber
摘要: Transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), as highly anisotropic layered compounds, have attracted increasing interest from basic research to practical applications. Among them, zirconium disulfide (ZrS2) with remarkable physical properties has been widely investigated recently. Here, ZrS2 employed as a saturable absorber is utilized in an Er-doped fiber laser. A stable mode-locking operation is achieved, with central wavelength of ~1559.5 nm, 3 dB bandwidth of ~1.72 nm, and pulse duration of ~1.75 ps. As far as we know, our work demonstrates for the first time that ZrS2 can be applied to realize ultrafast laser pulses.

Q-switched mode-locked Nd:GGG waveguide laser with tin disulfide as saturable absorber
摘要: We demonstrate a Q-switched mode-locked waveguide laser operation with high fundamental repetition rate based on the few-layer tin disulfide (SnS2) as a saturable absorber. The excellent nonlinear optical property of SnS2 enables efficient pulsed laser generation. By using Nd:GGG ridge waveguide, the fundamental repetition rate up to 17.9 GHz has been achieved for the mode-locked pulses with duration as short as 30 ps. In addition, this Nd:GGG-based waveguide laser exhibits excellent lasing properties (maximum output power of 115 mW at 1064 nm) by modulation of SnS2, suggesting promising application as miniature ultrafast light sources.

摘要: In this work, we characterize a commercially available laser diode. The complex optical spectrum shows that most of the laser modes have a fixed phase relation, i.e. the laser is mode-locked. By choosing a single-mode fiber with appropriate length, the intrinsic chirp of the laser can be compensated. As a result, the amplitude of the detected THz signal is increased by a factor of 16.

摘要: In this paper, we proposed an all-optical sampling system. The ring-shaped mode-locked laser with quantum-dot semiconductor optical amplifier (QD-SOA) is the sampling pulse source of the system. The sampling module consists of a Nonlinear Optical Loop Mirror (NOLM) utilizing QD-SOA as the nonlinear element. Simulation results show that the high-frequency narrow Gaussian pulse of 40 GHz can optically sample the 4 GHz dual-frequency Gaussian pulse signal. The system has the advantages of fast sampling speed and high sampling accuracy.

摘要: An octave-band voltage-controlled oscillator is phase-locked on the envelope of the pulse train from a mode-locked laser. The locking scheme employs a balanced Mach-Zehnder modulator with two photodiodes as a phase detector. The phase.locked loop has a loop bandwidth of approximately 1 MHz and an in-band phase noise of approximately -135 dBc/Hz at all frequencies. The integrated jitter from 1 kHz to 100 MHz is 21 fs, 18.3 fs and 13.8 fs at 5.016 GHz, 7.6 GHz and 10.032 GHz carrier frequencies, respectively. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the best jitter performance reported for a PLL with MZM-based phase detection and the ?rst reported PLL of this type featuring an octave-band frequency range.
