  • Correlation Between Nanodispersion of Organo-Modified Nanodiamond in Solvent and Condensed Behavior of Their Organized Particle Films

    摘要: Organo-nanodiamond (ND) by surface modification using several surfactants has achieved nanodispersion in organic solvent as if these nanoparticles were dissolved. High surface coverage has reduced the aggregated particle size of organo-ND particles in the solvent, and their modification by fluorocarbon chain has achieved nanodispersion in a nonpolar solvent. By using a spreading solvent for single particle layers on the water surface of various organo-NDs of resulting dispersion medium, a close relation was found between the dispersion characteristics of organo-nanoparticles in the solvent and the condensation behavior in their two-dimensional single particle layer. Organo-ND with high dispersion ability in solvent has inferior two-dimensional condensability as a single particle layer. Sufficient retention time is necessary to form a homogeneous single particle layer on the water surface. The reason behind this property was found to be the secondary aggregation of organo-modified nanoparticles at the air/water interface. Since lipophilicized ND is not necessarily stable on the water surface, increasing aggregated particle size and three-dimensionality were confirmed in the case where the particle compression rate during two-dimensional integration was relatively fast.

  • Rare earth-functionalized nanodiamonds for dual-modal imaging and drug delivery

    摘要: Nanodiamonds (NDs) have attracted much attention in biomedical research for their high chemical stability, low toxicity and good biocompatibility. However, the insufficient fluorescence of NDs largely inhibit their multi-functional bio-applications , such as simultaneous diagnosis and chemotherapy. Herein, a multifunctional NDs-based nanoparticles(ND-TTA:RE) with excellent fluorescence and paramagnetic properties has been fabricated by covalently functionalizing NDs with rare-earth (RE=Eu3+, Gd3+) 2-Thenoyltrifluoroacetone (TTA) complexes. The NDs-based nanoparticles exhibit intense red emission and could enhance the T1-weighted MR image due to the coordinated RE ions. The in vitro/in vivo experiments demonstrate its large potential for optical and MR imaging. In addition, the ND-TTA:RE also shows good drug storage capability that reach to 375 ug/mg toward anticancer drug doxorubicin (Dox) and exhibits significant pH-dependent drug-release behavior. The MTT assays shows that the as-synthesized ND-TTA:RE have low toxicity in a concentration range from 0 to 150 mg/mL, while the Dox-loaded ND-TTA:RE (ND-TTA:RE-Dox) shows effective chemotherapy towards gastric cancer cells. The dual-mode imaging and drug delivery abilities make ND-TTA:RE a promising nanomaterial for multifunctional applications. In addition, this work may also provide a new strategy for the design of multi-functional nanoplatform.

  • Functionalization of Nanodiamond with Four Kinds of Epoxies

    摘要: In this work, a simple and effective method for the covalent functionalization of nanodiamond (ND) with four epoxies has been developed. After homogenization by mixed acids and thionyl chlorides, the surface of ND was modi?ed with triethylenetetramine (TETA) to possess amine groups, which were used as active points to react with epoxy by ring opening reaction. Four different epoxies used are bifunctional diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA), trifunctional triglycidyl p-amino phenol (TGAP), tetrafunctional tetraglycidyldiamino diphenylmethane (TGDDM) and bisphenol-A novolac epoxy resin (BAEPN). FT-IR spectra revealed that the epoxy was covalently attached to the ND (ND-g-epoxy). In addition, functionalized ND particles were characterized with WAXD and UV-Vis spectra to con?rm the result. The weight gains as a result of the epoxy-functionalized ND were determined by TGA analysis. The ND-g-epoxy particles were better dispersed in common organic solvents and the average diameters were characterized. The better dispersion and of the modi?ed ND were identi?ed from the SEM images.

  • Fluorescent nanodiamond array deposition on porous anodized aluminum oxide using asperity assisted capillary force assembly

    摘要: Array ordering of nanodiamonds with nitrogen-vacancy centers using porous anodized aluminum oxide (PAAO) templates is studied. Particle sorting and array formation are demonstrated with a polydisperse suspension of irregularly shaped diamonds with 28 nm number mean value diameter. The assembly is governed by a balance of withdrawal speed and evaporation driven particle flux, which is influenced by the asperities of the PAAO surface during the capillary and convective assembly dip-coating process. The resulting structures are dense (50 nm average center separation) isolated (non-touching) nanoparticle arrays with a size distribution that matches the topology of the template surface. The fluorescence signal is detected from arrays with an approximately 1:1 particle/pore filling ratio.
