A facile fabrication of novel stuff with antibacterial property and osteogenic promotion utilizing red phosphorus and near-infrared light
摘要: Bone-implant materials are important for bone repairing and orthopedics surgery, which include bone plates and bone nails. These materials need to be designed not only considering its biostability and biocompatibility, but also their by-products induced infection after therapy or long-time treatment in vivo. Thus, the development of novel implant materials is quite urgent. Red phosphorus has great biocompatibility and exhibits efficient photothermal ability. Herein, a red phosphorus/IR780/arginine-glycine-asparticacid-cysteine (RGDC) coating on titanium bone-implant was prepared. The temperature sensitivity of Staphylococcus aureus biofilm is enhanced in the presence of ROS produced by IR780 with 808 nm light irradiation. With keeping the cells and tissues normal, a high antibacterial performance can be realized by near-infrared (808 nm) irradiated within 10 min at 50 °C. Besides the high effective antibacterial efficacy provided by photothermal therapy (PTT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT), the RGDC decorated surface can also possess an excellent performance in osteogenesis in vivo.

A Novel Near-infrared Hyperspectral Absorption/Scattering Imaging Method using Multiple Ground Plates for Evaluating Polymer Composites
摘要: This paper proposes a nondestructive method of evaluating polymer composites using near-infrared (NIR) diffuse reflection spectroscopy with multiple ground plates. Wavelength-dependent absorption and reduced scattering coefficients were acquired to evaluate the chemical structure and the concentration of the substances from absorption and to determine the size and the dispersity of filler in the polymer domain from scattering. NIR spectra of the sample were measured on multiple ground plates, namely, “ground-plate-dependent” diffuse reflection spectra. The effects of the external reflection on the ground-plate-dependent diffuse reflection spectra were subsequently removed. The internal reflection coefficient was calculated based on the difference between the diffuse reflectances of the neat resin and ground plates without prior information of the incident angle of light and the refractive index of sample. The external reflection coefficient was evaluated by the gap of diffuse reflectances between the sample and a white ground plate. After the corrections of reflections, the spectra were fitted by a physical model of light propagation based on the two-flex theory to acquire the absorption and the reduced scattering coefficients. The calculated absorption coefficients indicated a good linear relationship with particle concentration. The calculated reduced scattering coefficients agreed with the theoretical values by Mie scattering theory. It was demonstrated that the proposed method achieved to the simultaneous evaluation of particulate-filler concentrations and sizes in polymer composites.

Er3+-to-Yb3+ and Pr3+-to-Yb3+ energy transfer for highly efficient near-infrared cryogenic optical temperature sensing
摘要: Here, the very high thermal sensing capability of Er3+,Yb3+ doped LaF3 nanoparticles, where Er3+-to-Yb3+ energy transfer is used, are reported. Also Pr3+,Yb3+ doped LaF3 nanoparticles, with Pr3+-to-Yb3+ energy transfer, showed temperature sensing in the same temperature regime, but with lower performance. The investigated Er3+,Yb3+ doped LaF3 nanoparticles show a remarkably high relative sensitivity Sr up to 6.6092 %K-1 (at 15K) in the near-infrared (NIR), in the cryogenic (15 – 105K) temperature region opening a whole new thermometric system suitable for advanced applications in the very low temperature ranges. Up to date reports on NIR cryogenic sensors are very scarce.

Correlation of Near Infrared Spectroscopy Measurements with the Surface Roughness of Wood
摘要: The surface roughness of Chinese fir and Eucalyptus wood samples were measured using the stylus profile method in order to investigate the correlation between near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy and surface roughness. The results showed that the NIR spectra absorption showed differences among samples from different surface roughnesses, and the absorption decreased with the increase of the surface roughness. A strong relationship was found between the surface roughness parameters, i.e., the arithmetical mean deviation of the profile (Ra), the ten-point height of irregularities (Rz), and the maximum height of profile (Ry). Based on the NIR spectra of the Chinese fir wood samples and the mixed wood samples of the two wood species, and the correlation coefficients of these two types of wood samples in a calibration set were 0.77 to 0.83 and 0.67 to 0.74, respectively. A relatively poor correlation was found in the model based on the Eucalyptus samples; however, it was still significant. These results suggested that there was relative information about the surface roughness from the NIR spectra, which further illustrated that the surface roughness may influence the effect of models for wood properties built by NIR data.

The Efficacy of Near-Infrared Spectroscopy Monitoring in Carotid Endarterectomy: A Prospective, Single-Center, Observational Study
摘要: There has been no gold standard for intraoperative monitoring in carotid endarterectomy (CEA) till now. The purpose of the current study was to investigate the value of near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) monitoring in CEA and explore the thresholds for intraoperative cerebral hypoperfusion. Eighty-four consecutive patients who underwent CEA surgery in Xuan Wu Hospital of Capital Medical University from August 2015 to June 2016 were enrolled in this study. All patients were intraoperatively monitored by transcranial Doppler ultrasonography (TCD) and NIRS. Regional oxygen saturation (rSO2) monitored by NIRS and blood flow velocity of the middle cerebral artery (V-MCA) monitored by TCD were continuously recorded. Correlation analysis was conducted for NIRS and TCD monitoring values. Intraoperative shunting was performed in five patients according to the TCD monitoring results and surgeon preference. During clamping of the carotid artery, the Pearson correlation index between rSO2 and V-MCA was 0.581 (P<0.001). A cut-off of 12.3% decrease of rSO2 was identified as the optimal threshold for intraoperative hypoperfusion indicated by TCD monitoring, when the sensitivity and specificity were 74.6% and 91.7%, respectively, with a 0.609 Kappa value. Physical examination immediately after operation showed no ischemic injury occurred, and no death and stroke occurred during the postoperative hospitalization. Our study demonstrated that NIRS could serve as a favorable monitoring tool during CEA. A 12.3% decrease of rSO2 could be adopted as a reliable threshold for intraoperative cerebral hypoperfusion.
