  • An optical fiber strain sensor by using of taper based TCF structure

    摘要: We propose an optical fiber strain sensor consisting of a spliced twin-core fiber (TCF). The sensor structure has two fiber tapers, which are weak taper and T-shaped taper. The taper waist of T-shaped taper is about half-size of the weak taper, but the length of the T-shaped taper is also about half-length of the weak taper. In the sensing structure, core mode and cladding modes of the TCF are excited simultaneously. Two tapered regions around the splicing interfaces can play the roles of splitting and combining the modes in the fiber. In experiment, the proposed device has good quality interferometric spectra, and the highest extinction ratio of 20 dB is achieved. When the stress increases from 0 με to 841.5 με, different wavelength sensitivities of 3.31 pm/με and 6.11 pm/με are achieved. Different intensity sensitivities of 7.5 × 10?3 dB/με and 9.9 × 10?3 dB/με are also achieved, respectively. The sensor has shown good test stability and low temperature sensitivity, which is good for precise strain measurement in practical applications.

  • Hydrogen peroxide detection with a silver nanoparticle grating chip fabricated by plasmonic plating

    摘要: An optical detection of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is proposed, using grating structures of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). Periodic line structures of AgNPs are deposited on a gold nanoparticle (AuNP)-decorated glass plate using an interference exposure with a green laser beam, based on the plasmonic plating method. This AgNP grating chip diffracts incident light, and the diffraction efficiency is dependent on the amount of AgNPs. By applying a drop of H2O2 solution onto the chip, the diffraction intensity declines due to the autocatalytic decomposition of AgNPs. A portable measurement system of the diffraction intensity change is constructed, and the H2O2 detection in the concentration range 6.7 – 668 μmol/L is performed in 2 min simply by dropping the H2O2 solution onto the substrate.

  • Luminescence and anion recognition performance of mononuclear Eu(III) complexes with N- and O- donor pyridine derivatives

    摘要: A series of Eu(III) complexes with pyridine-2-carboxamide (PCA), pyridine-2-carboxaldoxime (PCAO), pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic anhydride (PDCA) or pyridine-2-methanol (PM) as primary ligands and 4,4′-dimethoxy-2,2′-bipyridine (DMBP) as ancillary ligand were synthesized. The interaction between the ligands and complexes were confirmed by FT-IR study. The complexes were abbreviated as [Eu(PCA)3DMBP].Cl3 (C1), [Eu(PCAO)3DMBP].Cl3 (C2), [Eu(PDCA)3DMBP].Cl3 (C3) and [Eu(PM)3DMBP].Cl3 (C4). Optical studies were done by UV–vis spectroscopy and PL spectroscopy. The highest intrinsic luminescent quantum yield (53.42%) and lifetime value (1456 μs) were found for C3. Lowest quantum yield was exhibited by C2. Anion sensing studies of all the complexes were done by UV–vis and PL spectroscopy and it was observed that complex C1 showed remarkable change in optical properties upon addition of F? and HSO4? ions. Thus C1 can be used as optical sensor for F? and HSO4? ions. The FQD for F? and HSO4? ions were found to be 6.55 and 3.58 respectively for C1.

  • Passive Sub-Carrier Multiplexing for Discriminating Overlapped Optical Spectra

    摘要: A passive technique for multiplexing spectrally overlapping optical network signals is proposed and experimentally verified. The system utilizes arrayed fiber delay lines for multiplexing signal generation and offers simultaneous plotting of multiple optical spectra. Accurate recovery of individual spectrum of multiplexed long-period gratings spectra is experimentally demonstrated in a refractive index sensing application. This system provides an all-optical platform for economical multiplexing system in optical sensing networks.

  • An automatic multi-thread image segmentation embedded system for surface plasmon resonance sensor

    摘要: In order to reduce the uncertainties associated with manual selection of regions of interest (ROIs) commonly used in Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) imaging system, we proposed and implemented an automatic image segmentation method in an embedded system to facilitate the potential real-time applications. Intuitive marker-controlled watershed algorithm is developed to segment ROIs (reaction, blank, and background regions) from images acquired from an experimental image SPR system. The marker assignment algorithms and pre-processing algorithms are executed in parallel by multi-threading programming on the multi-core embedded system to both real-time and good quality of segmentation. This method exhibited a good robustness in a series of ROIs segmentation test. Furthermore, the intensity response from triplicate detection of glucose standard solutions indicated a good reproducibility of data. The linear range was from 2.5 mg/mL to 20.4 mg/mL, with a correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.999 and sensitivity of 2.69 a.u./mg/mL. In conclusion, the proposed automatic image segmentation method effectively makes the measurement more precise and simplified.

  • Large area SiC-UV phothodiode for spectroscopy portable system

    摘要: In this work, we present the extensive characterization of large area Silicon Carbide based UV sensors candidate for outdoors spectroscopic applications of gas or liquid. The proposed SiC Schottky devices exhibit dark current density of 0.12 nA/cm2 @ 15 V, a 0.12 A/W responsivity @ 300 nm, optimal visible blindness and switching time of ~ 190 ns. Effects of temperature on the sensor performance, of crucial interest for outdoors applications, are also examined in the range from -20 °C to 90 °C.

  • Optical temperature sensor with micro ring resonator and graphene to reach high sensitivity

    摘要: In this paper, micro temperature sensor with micro ring resonator and graphene material has been investigated. The main idea is to control the temperature of system by the layer of graphene on micro ring resonator path. By rising the temperature of the system, graphene with 5000 W/mK thermal conductivity senses this increase and applies it in sensor resonance peaks. The linear temperature difference causes a linear difference in sensitivity, power, and energy level, which shows the correct functioning of the system. Electronic sensors suffer from electrical disturbances and electromagnetic interference and sometimes do not function properly, therefore this micrometer optical sensor with 44×40 μm dimensions is necessary in industrial and medical fields because it has small dimension, high finesse and sensitivity, low weight and cost in comparison with other sensors. Other materials of this sensor are Si and SiO2 which are natural elements and have a high melting point. The FSR and FWHM of system are 660 GHZ and 30 GHZ which are acceptable values in comparison with other optical sensors. The time rotation and time delay unit reaching to 0.31 ps and 1.51 ps in accordance which have an acceptable time and also total length of ring is 94 μm.

  • Crown-Porphyrin Ligand for Optical Sensors Development

    摘要: A novel porphyrin ligand, Zn(II)TPP-BPI-crown (ZnPC), functionalized with two dibenzo-crown-ether moieties was synthesized and tested as cation-sensitive ionophore. Fluorescence studies on ligand sensitivity towards a number of different metal cations (Na+, K+, Li+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Co2+, Cd2+, Pb2+, Cu2+, Zn2+ and NH4+) were carried out first in solution and then inside polymeric membrane optodes. Emission light signal was sufficiently brilliant to be captured by a low-cost computer webcam, while a commercial blue-light LED served as monochromic excitation light source. The influence on the ZnPC optode response of the lipophilic sites functionalization was investigated. The visibly (naked eye) observed color change of sensing material from green to red demonstrated the suitability of the ZnPC-based optodes to perform fast monitoring of Cu(II) ions in the concentration range between 6.6 × 10?7 and 2.4 × 10?2 mol/L with a low detection limit (estimated by s/n = 3 method) of 0.3 mg/L, which is lower than WHO guideline value of 2 mg/L.

  • Enabling selective absorption in perovskite solar cells for refractometric sensing of gases

    摘要: perovskite solar cells are currently considered a promising technology for solar energy harvesting. their capability to deliver an electrical signal when illuminated can sense changes in environmental parameters. We have numerically analyzed the variation of the current delivered by a perovskite cell as a function of the index of refraction of air, that is in contact with the front surface of the cell. This calculation identifies which geometrical and material structures enhance this behavior. After replacing the top transparent electrode of a solar cell by an optimized subwavelength metallic grating, we find a large variation in the responsivity of the cell with respect to the change in the index of refraction of the surrounding medium. Such a refractometric sensor can be interrogated electronically, avoiding the cumbersome set-ups of spectral or angular interrogation methods. We present an adaptation of the performance parameters of refractometric sensors (sensitivity and figure of merit) to the case of opto-electronic interrogation methods. the values of sensitivity and figure of Merit are promising for the development of refractometric perovskite-based sensors.

  • Sensitive Detection of Dengue Virus Type 2 E-Proteins Signals Using Self-Assembled Monolayers/Reduced Graphene Oxide-PAMAM Dendrimer Thin Film-SPR Optical Sensor

    摘要: In this work, sensitive detection of dengue virus type 2 E-proteins (DENV-2 E-proteins) was performed in the range of 0.08 pM to 0.5 pM. The successful DENV detection at very low concentration is a matter of concern for targeting the early detection after the onset of dengue symptoms. Here, we developed a SPR sensor based on self-assembled monolayer/reduced graphene oxide-polyamidoamine dendrimer (SAM/NH2rGO/PAMAM) thin film to detect DENV-2 E-proteins. Surface characterizations involving X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) confirms the incorporation of NH2rGO-PAMAM nanoparticles in the prepared sensor films. The specificity, sensitivity, binding affinity, and selectivity of the SPR sensor were then evaluated. Results indicated that the variation of the sensing layer due to different spin speed, time incubation, and concentration provided a better interaction between the analyte and sensing layer. The linear dependence of the SPR sensor showed good linearity (R2 = 0.92) with the lowest detection of 0.08 pM DENV-2 E-proteins. By using the Langmuir model, the equilibrium association constant was obtained at very high value of 6.6844 TM?1 (R2 = 0.99). High selectivity of the SPR sensor towards DENV-2 E-proteins was achieved in the presence of other competitors.
