Effect of the mechanical oscillator on the optical-response properties of an optical trimer system
摘要: We propose theoretically a four-mode coupled optomechanical system to explore the optical-response properties of an optical trimer system consisting of a passive cavity, a no-loss-gain cavity, and an active cavity coupled with a mechanical oscillator. In the study, the passive cavity is driven by an external laser so that the stability of the coupled system depends strongly on the gain-to-loss ratio and the photon tunneling between the adjacent cavities. We ?nd that in the regime near the stable-unstable critical point, the resonance absorption of the optical trimer system changes quickly with the increasing gain of the active cavity. In contrast, when the mechanical oscillator is coupled to the passive cavity, the center absorption peak is split and a phenomenon of optomechanically induced transparency appears. Consequently, two additional resonance peaks in the absorption pro?le are induced by the optomechanical coupling, which hinges on the tunneling between the optical cavities and also on the gain of the active cavity. The dependence of the width of the transparency window on the optomechanical coupling and the driving strength is also discussed in detail. The results obtained here indicate that the optical properties of the trimer system can be manipulated by coupling a mechanical oscillator to the system and therefore have a potential application in quantum optics and quantum information processing.

Vortex Dynamics and Optical Vortices || Ultrashort Extreme Ultraviolet Vortices
摘要: Optical vortices are very attractive because they transport a well-defined orbital angular momentum (OAM) associated with the singularity of the beam. These singular beams, commonly generated in the optical regime, are used in a wide range of applications: communication, micromanipulation, microscopy, among others. The production of OAM beams in the extreme ultraviolet (XUV) and X-ray regimes is of great interest as it allows to extend the applications of optical vortices down to the nanometric scale. Several proposals have been explored in order to generate XUV vortices in synchrotrons and FEL facilities. Here, we study the generation of XUV vortices through high-order harmonic generation (HHG). HHG is a unique source of coherent radiation extending from the XUV to the soft X-ray regime, emitted in the form of attosecond pulses. When driving HHG by OAM beams, highly charged XUV vortices with unprecedented spatiotemporal properties are emitted in the form of helical attosecond beams. In this chapter, we revise our theoretical work in the generation of XUV vortices by HHG. In particular, we illustrate in detail the role of macroscopic phase matching of high-order harmonics when driven by OAM beams, which allows to control the production of attosecond beams carrying OAM.

摘要: The performance of a cost-effective receiver, based on a balanced 3×3 polarization maintaining symmetric coupler, applied to a 15GHz radio-over-fibre back-haul transport network for C-RAN architecture, is experimentally validated. A power sensitivity of -29dBm is demonstrated, with low required local oscillator power (7 dBm) over a long transmission distance (60 km).

Vortex Dynamics and Optical Vortices || Optical Vortices Illumination Enables the Creation of Chiral Nanostructures
摘要: We discovered that optical vortices with an annular spatial form and an orbital angular momentum owing to a helical wave front enable us to twist materials, such as metal, silicon and azo-polymer, to form various structured matters including microneedles, chiral nanostructures and chiral surface reliefs. Such structured matters will potentially open the door to advanced devices, for instance, silicon photonic device, biomedical micro-electro-mechanical systems, ultrasensitive detector for chiral chemical composites and plasmonic metasurfaces for chiral chemical reactions.

Nano- and Microfabrication for Industrial and Biomedical Applications || Advanced microfabrication methods
摘要: The previous two chapters have discussed the philosophy of miniaturization and introduced the basic techniques. We will now further explain and broaden the microsystems technology (MST) engineering concept. In electronics, the discrete transistor replaced the vacuum tube in the 1960s. Since then, circuitry has been packed more and more densely onto the substrate. In fact, most of the effort into miniaturization was concerned with the development of novel fabrication methods, to allow manufacturing at the microscale of the next generation of devices. The reduction of size fitted the immediate purpose of the application: more calculation capacity in the same package. These devices became more portable, due to the reduction in their physical size and weight, and the inclusion of novel means of telecommunication. The development of cordless data transmitting systems was an important step towards the establishment of MST.

The third-order nonlinear optical properties of gold nanoparticles-methylene blue conjugation
摘要: Third-order nonlinear properties of a thiazine dye (methylene blue (MB)) and a plasmonic nanoparticle (gold nanoparticles (GNPs)) have been studied by Z-scan method with a 50 mW continues wave (CW) diode pumped solid state laser (DPSSL) operating at 532 nm. The nonlinear parameters (nonlinear refractive (NLR) index (n2) and nonlinear absorption (NLA) coefficient (β)) are determined. The mechanism of the observed NLA and nonlinear refraction is attributed respectively to reverse saturable absorption (RSA) and thermal nonlinear effects. The magnitude of the measured NLR index (n2) and NLA coefficient (β) are founded to be the order of 10?8 cm2/W and 10?4 cm/W respectively. The effect of MB and GNPs on each other has been studied. Z-scan experiments for GNPs-MB conjugation shows noticeable increase in nonlinear parameters.

New Candidate Multicomponent Chalcogenide Glasses for Supercontinuum Generation
摘要: Broadband supercontinuum (SC) generation requires host material attributes defined by both optical and physical properties and the material’s manufacturability. We review and define the trade-offs in these attributes as applied to fiber or planar film applications based on homogeneous glass property data, and provide a series of examples of how one might optimize such attributes through material compositional and morphology design. As an example, we highlight the role of varying composition, microstructure, and linear/nonlinear optical properties, such as transmittance, refractive index, and the multiphoton absorption coefficient, for a series of novel multicomponent chalcogenide glasses within a model GeSe2-As2Se3-PbSe (GAP-Se) system. We report key optical property variation as a function of composition and form, and discuss how such glasses, suitable for both fiber and planar film processing, could lend themselves as candidates for use in SC generation. We demonstrate the impact of starting glass composition and morphology and illustrate how tailoring composition and form (bulk versus film) leads to significant variation in linear, nonlinear, and dispersive optical property behavior within this system that enables design options that are attractive to optimization of desirable SC performance, based on optical composites.

Propagation of Electromagnetic Waves through an Invisible Gradient-Index Lens with Negative Refractive Index
摘要: A radially inhomogeneous (gradient-index) lens made of material with a negative refractive index, invisible from the viewpoint of geometrical optics, is proposed and designed. The design includes derivation and solution of an equation for determining the refractive index profile, as well as derivation of an expression allowing calculation of the ray trajectories in the lens. Propagation of a plane wave through a cylindrical modification of the proposed lens both for the case of E-polarization and for the case of H-polarization is analyzed numerically using the hybrid projection method. The results obtained for the RCS of the lens are compared to the similar performance of a positive-index lens described in the previous publications.

Binary Zone Plate Infrared Spectrometer for Dissolved Gas Analysis in High Voltage Equipment
摘要: An IR spectrometer based on a Binary Zone Plate (BZP) is presented for dissolved gas analysis. The wavelength selective focal length of the BZP can effectively discriminate between wavelengths ranging from 800 nm to 8 μm, by adjusting the focus distance onto an aperture in the image plane from 19 mm to 200 mm. The aperture serves to pass focused radiation onto the detector. The BZP has a focal length of 50 mm for a design wavelength of 3 μm, with 400 zones. This design enables discrimination between all key fault gases present in oil impregnated high voltage equipment.

Focus Assessment Method of Gaze Tracking Camera Based on ε-Support Vector Regression
摘要: In order to capture an eye image of high quality in a gaze-tracking camera, an auto-focusing mechanism is used, which requires accurate focus assessment. Although there has been previous research on focus assessment in the spatial or wavelet domains, there are few previous studies that combine all of the methods of spatial and wavelet domains. Since all of the previous focus assessments in the spatial or wavelet domain methods have disadvantages, such as being affected by illumination variation, etc., we propose a new focus assessment method by combining the spatial and wavelet domain methods for the gaze-tracking camera. This research is novel in the following three ways, in comparison with the previous methods. First, the proposed focus assessment method combines the advantages of spatial and wavelet domain methods by using ε-support vector regression (SVR) with a symmetrical Gaussian radial basis function (RBF) kernel. In order to prevent the focus score from being affected by a change in image brightness, both linear and nonlinear normalizations are adopted in the focus score calculation. Second, based on the camera optics, we mathematically prove the reason for the increase in the focus score in the case of daytime images or a brighter illuminator compared to nighttime images or a darker illuminator. Third, we propose a new criterion to compare the accuracies of the focus measurement methods. This criterion is based on the ratio of relative overlapping amount (standard deviation of focus score) between two adjacent positions along the Z-axis to the entire range of focus score variety between these two points. Experimental results showed that the proposed method outperforms other methods.
