Successful optimization of reconstruction parameters in structured illumination microscopy – A practical guide
摘要: The impact of the different reconstruction parameters in super-resolution structured illumination microscopy (SIM) on image artifacts is carefully analyzed. These parameters comprise the Wiener filter parameter, an apodization function, zero-frequency suppression and modifications of the optical transfer function. A detailed investigation of the reconstructed image spectrum is concluded to be suitable for identifying artifacts. For this purpose, two samples, an artificial test slide and a more realistic biological system, were used to characterize the artifact classes and their correlation with the image spectra as well as the reconstruction parameters. In addition, a guideline for efficient parameter optimization is suggested and the implementation of the parameters in selected up-to-date processing packages (proprietary and open-source) is depicted.

Breast tumor classification using different features of quantitative ultrasound parametric images
摘要: Rationale and objectives The ultrasound B-mode-based morphological and texture analysis and Nakagami parametric imaging have been proposed to characterize breast tumors. Since these three feature categories of ultrasonic tissue characterization supply information on different physical characteristics of breast tumors, by combining the above methods is expected to provide more clues for classifying breast tumors. Materials and methods To verify the validity of the concept, raw data were obtained from 160 clinical cases. Six different types of morphological-feature parameters, four texture features, and the Nakagami parameter of benignancy and malignancy were extracted for evaluation. The Pearson’s correlation matrix was used to calculate the correlation between different feature parameters. The fuzzy c-means clustering and stepwise regression techniques were utilized to determine the optimal feature set, respectively. The logistic regression, receiver operating characteristic curve, and support vector machine were used to estimate the diagnostic ability. Results The best performance was obtained by combining morphological-feature parameter (e.g., standard deviation of the shortest distance), texture feature (e.g., variance), and the Nakagami parameter, with an accuracy of 89.4%, a specificity of 86.3%, a sensitivity of 92.5%, and an area under receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.96. There was no significant difference between using fuzzy c-means clustering, logistic regression, and support vector machine based on the optimal feature set for breast tumors classification. Conclusion Therefore, we verified that different physical ultrasonic features are functionally complementary and thus improve the performance in diagnosing breast tumors. Moreover, the optimal feature set had the maximum discriminating performance should be irrelative to the power of classifiers.

A robust framework for visibility enhancement of foggy images
摘要: This paper presents a robust framework for visibility enhancement of images degraded by foggy weather conditions. The proposed defogged algorithm is developed by the combining of modified visibility restoration approach and S-shaped transfer function for foggy weather degraded images. The proposed defogged algorithm works in two steps: in first step trilateral filter based visibility restoration algorithm is used for visibility and smoothness of the degraded images. Further in the second step S-shaped transfer function is used for contrast enhancement of the foggy images. The image quality metrics of proposed defogged and other existing visibility restoration algorithms are evaluated in terms of Fog Reduction Factor (FRF), Measure of Enhancement Factor (EMF) and blind parameter (g) on different foggy image databases. We demonstrate the strength of proposed defogged algorithm by estimation the thickness of fog in the input image as well as the output image. Finally, the simulation results and visualisation of defogged images indicate that the proposed defogged algorithm is highly effective and efficient for visibility enhancement of foggy images.

Rapid calculation of bespoke body segment parameters using 3D infra-red scanning
摘要: Body segment parameters such as segment mass, centre of mass and moment of inertia, serve as important inputs for musculoskeletal modelling. These parameters are normally derived from regression tables; however, can be poorly representative of the study population with variations of up to 40% recorded between different tables. More recent methods, such as 3D scanning, present a rapid and accurate way to produce subject-specific body segment parameters for use in musculoskeletal models. An infra-red 3D scanner was used to produce full-body scans of 95 males and females. Each was put through an algorithm to calculate bespoke segment mass, centre of mass and inertial properties for each segment of the body, with results comparable to cadaveric data. These methods could be used to increase the specificity of musculoskeletal modelling outputs for individual subjects, improving the accuracy of modelling outputs in biomechanics-related research.

Photoemission and thermoluminescence characteristics of Dy3+-doped zinc sodium bismuth borate glasses
摘要: The present study reports preparation and characterization of Dy3+-doped PbO free alkali-heavy-metal-borate glasses for luminescent applications. The amorphous nature of the glasses and the presence of various structural groups like BiO6, BO3 and BO4 were confirmed through XRD and FTIR measurements. The Oscillator strength of Dy3+ absorption transitions as well as the bond formed with the O2- ion in the glass network were determined using the absorption spectra. Radiative parameters extracted from Judd-Ofelt theory proved the degree of suitability of prepared glasses for lasing applications. The photoluminescence spectra exhibited the emission characteristics of Dy3+ ions and used to calculate the branching ratio, stimulated emission cross-section and radiative lifetime. Metastable lifetimes of Dy3+ ions were obtained through exponential fitting of respective decay profiles. The luminescence quenching phenomena was reasoned using Inokuti-Hirayama (I-H) model. The optical gain and quantum efficiency values clearly suggested Dy3+ doping at 0.3 mol% was optimum for 587 nm lasing action. Further, CIE chromaticity plot indicated the possible applications in solid state lighting devices. The thermoluminescence glow curves of 0.3 mol% Dy3+-doped glasses were considered for gamma irradiation and kinetic parameters of the same were evaluated using Computerized Glow Curve Deconvolution (CGCD) technique.

Suitability of Raman Spectroscopy for Assessing Anisotropic Strain in Thin Films of Doped Ceria
摘要: A protocol for characterizing relaxation of anisotropic strain in thin films of 10 mol% Eu- or Sm-doped ceria is described. The method is based on comparison of Raman spectra and X-ray diffraction patterns from substrate-supported films, displaying in-plane compressive strain (initial state), with analogous data from 2 mm diameter self-supported films (i.e., membranes), prepared by partial substrate removal (final state). These membranes are found to be relaxed, i.e., approximately unstrained, but with increased unit cell volume. The effective (i.e., 2-state) Grüneisen parameter of the F2g Raman active mode for these films is calculated to be 0.4 ± 0.1, which is ≈30% of the literature value for the corresponding ceramics under isostatic pressure. On this basis, it is found that the observed red-shift of the F2g mode frequency following isothermal strain relaxation of the doped ceria thin films cannot be determined solely by the increase in average unit cell volume. The study presented here may shed light on the suitability of Raman spectroscopy as a technique for characterizing strain in lanthanide-doped ceria thin films.

Thermal Influence on S22 kink behavior of a 0.15-μm gate length AlGaN/GaN/SiC HEMT for microwave applications
摘要: Thermal influence on S22 kink behavior has been carried out on a 0.15-μm gate length AlGaN/GaN/SiC high electron mobility transistor over a wide range of temperature. The size and the shape of the S22 kink effect in terms of biasing and temperature have been evaluated. The main finding is that S22 of the studied device is affected by two kinks: the first one appears at approximately 19 GHz and then the second one appears at about 43 GHz. The impact of the intrinsic circuit parameters on the S22 kink phenomena is inspected to assess their contribution. In addition, a new procedure is proposed to quantify this type of phenomenon by defining the kink area as the area between the two curves corresponding to S22 with and without the kink effect. The relevance of this study emerges from the fact that an exhaustive characterization of these anomalous phenomena can empower RF engineers to effectively take them into account for both modeling and design purposes.

Controlling the relativistic self-focusing of Hermite-cosh-Gaussian beams in plasma
摘要: The purpose of current study was to find the effects of Hermite-cosh-Gaussian (HChG) beam characteristics on the relativistic self-focusing. The Self-focusing Parameter (SFP), for mode indexes of m=0, 1, and 2 is proposed which provides a basis for achieving the nonlinear self-focusing dependencies on the beam characteristics. The dissimilar nonlinear self-focusing dependencies of different mode indexes on the initial intensity and decentered parameter of HChG beam are founded. The predictions of SFP model are then validated by investigating the beam focusing/diverging along the propagation axis and the exact conformity is observed. The results of introduced model can by applied for HChG beams with higher mode indexes, the Hermite Gaussian and cosh-Gaussian beams.

Distributed Small-signal Equivalent Circuit Model and Parameter Extraction for SiGe HBT
摘要: In this paper, we present an improved high frequency small-signal distributed model for SiGe HBTs under forward-active mode based on the transmission line theory. The distributed nature of the transistor structure is taken into account in the proposed model. The single SiGe HBT is considered to be a cascade of many infinitesimal transistors, connected with the intrinsic base resistance. The closed-form solutions of admittance parameters for the distributed model are derived by solving the transmission line equation. With reasonable approximation and simplification, the model parameters are then directly extracted based on the nonlinear rational function fitting. The new improved distributed model and parameter extraction technique are validated with a 1×1.2×30 μm2 SiGe HBT from 100 MHz to 20.89 GHz. The simulated S-parameters in the proposed transmission line model are in close agreement with the measured data, and the frequency characteristics of the transistors are well predicted.

A Robust Parameter-free Thresholding Method for Image Segmentation
摘要: In this paper, we presented a new parameter-free thresholding method for image segmentation. In separating an image into two classes, the method employs an objective function that not only maximizes the between-class variance but also the distance between the mean of each class and the global mean of the image. The design of the objective function aims to circumvent the challenge that many existing techniques encounter when the underlying two classes have very different sizes or variances. The advantages of the new method are twofold. First, it is parameter-free, meaning that it can generate consistent results. Second, the new method has a simple form that makes it easy to adapt to different applications. We tested and compared the new method with the standard Otsu method, the maximum entropy method, and the 2D Otsu method on the simulated and real biomedical and photographic images and found that the new method can achieve a more accurate and robust performance.
