Aggregation-induced emission (AIE)-active highly emissive novel carbazole-based dyes with various solid-state fluorescence and reversible mechanofluorochromism characteristics
摘要: Three new carbazole-based fluorescent molecules 1-3 functionalized with tetraphenylethene have been successfully synthesized, and these compounds have high thermal stability, and they exhibited different fluorescence in solid states with the superior luminescence quantum yields of 99.04% (1), 98.90% (2) and 39.83% (3). Their aggregation-induced behaviors were explored by the study of photoluminescence spectroscopy. The results showed that luminogens 1-3 exhibited remarkable aggregation-induced emission effect. Furthermore, their distinct mechanical stimulus-responsive fluorescence characteristics were also surveyed by solid-state photoluminescence spectroscopy. Interestingly, the various emitting colors of these luminogens could be changed into the same green, and the repeatabilities of their mechanochromic luminescence behaviors were outstanding, and the powder X-ray diffraction results indicated that the reversible conversion from a crystalline to an amorphous state was responsible for the obvious mechanofluorochromism phenomena of compounds 1-3. This work will be valuable for the exploitation of mechanical-force sensors with typical aggregation-induced emission feature.

Fluorine-substituted TPE isomers with different triboluminescent behavior
摘要: Three isomers of fluorine-substituted tetraphenylethenes (TPE) demonstrate totally different triboluminescence (TL) behavior, as the results of their ignorable structural difference. Photophysical properties, packing model, single-crystal structure and density functional theory (DFT) calculations confirmed that bright TL emission is attributed to the high emission, intense intermolecular interaction and large dipole moments in solid state, indicating the introduction of fluorine atoms as an effective approach for realizing and modifying the TL performance.

Highly Efficient Luminescent Liquid Crystal with Aggregation-Induced Energy Transfer
摘要: A luminescent liquid crystal molecule (TPEMes) with efficient solid-state emission is rationally constructed via the chemically conjugation of blue-emitting tetraphenylethene cores and luminescent mesogenic tolane moieties, which are both featured with aggregation-induced emission properties. As for this fluorophore, aggregation induced energy transfer from the emissive tolane mesogens to the lighting-up tetraphenylethene units endows the molecule pure blue emission in the suspension and bulk state. Combining DSC, POM and 1D XRD experiments, TPEMes is deduced to adapt thermodynamically more stable layered crystalline phase, and can be 'frozen' into a monotropic smectic mesophase due to kinetic reasons. As a result of more densely packing of TPEMes in the crystalline phase indicated by 1D XRD, the luminescence of TPEMes in crystalline phase has blue-shifted with 17 nm relative to the metastable mesophase.

Spatiotemporal dynamics of aggregation-induced emission enhancement controlled by optical manipulation
摘要: We present spatiotemporal control of aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) of a protonated tetraphenylethene derivative by optical manipulation. A single submicrometer-sized aggregate is initially confined by laser irradiation when its fluorescence is hardly detectable. The continuous irradiation of the formed aggregate leads to sudden and rapid growth, resulting in bright yellow fluorescence emission. The fluorescence intensity at the peak wavelength of 540 nm is tremendously enhanced with growth, meaning that AIEE is activated by optical manipulation. Amazingly, the switching on/off of the activation of AIEE is arbitrarily controlled by alternating the laser power. This result means that local concentration, which increases the optical manipulation tool overcomes the electrostatic repulsion between the protonated molecules, namely, optical manipulation changes the aggregate structure. The dynamics and mechanism in AIEE controlled by optical manipulation will be discussed from the viewpoint of molecular conformation and association depending on the laser power.

Chromophore Arrays Constructed in the Major Groove of DNA Duplexes Using a Post-Synthetic Strategy
摘要: The construction of zipper-like chromophore-arrays in the major groove of duplex DNA remains a challenge because only a few chromophores for this application have been discovered. To address the challenge, dual-chromophore labeled DNAs having a self-complementary sequence were prepared using a solid-phase, post-synthetic, copper-catalyzed, alkyne-azide cycloaddition. The resulting chromophore-arrays on the labeled DNA duplexes were characterized. The dual-tetraphenylethene (TPE) or dual-pyrene (Py) labeled DNA formed self-complementary B-form duplexes and resulted in the construction of chromophore-arrays in the major groove. The TPE-arrays, in which TPEs were arranged in a zipper-like fashion, slightly destabilized the duplex because of their bulkiness and exhibited aggregation-induced-emission. The Py-arrays, in which Pys were not arranged in a zipper-like fashion, had no effect on duplex stability and exhibited weak excimer emission because Py was sufficiently small for free rotation in the major groove.
