  • Microwave plasma torch synthesis of Zn Al oxides as adsorbent and photocatalyst for organic compounds removal

    摘要: Zn-Al based oxides were synthesized using a microwave plasma torch (MPT) in which the precursors were introduced into the reaction chamber either upstream or downstream of the inlet, respectively. Zn\Al layered doubled oxide (LDO) samples with a layer-by-layer structure obtained from the downstream path exhibited high adsorption capacity for anionic species, i.e., acid red 27 (AR27) and methyl orange (MO) dyes through hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interaction. The adsorption behavior follows a pseudo-second-order model and the Langmuir isotherm, suggesting that chemisorption of adsorbate on the adsorbent surface plays a significant role. Zn\Al oxide (ZAO) powders prepared from the upstream path show high crystallinity, enabling them to photocatalytically degrade methyl blue (MB) dye solution under UV and visible light irradiation. The crystallization mechanisms for ZAO and LDO prepared by the MPT method were also proposed in this study. In summary, the MPT process is a facile, rapid, scalable, and cost-effective method for synthesizing of Zn\Al based materials for many practical applications.

  • Rapid tomographic reconstruction through GPU-based adaptive optics

    摘要: Large telescopes have important challenges in the near future. Increasing the size of mirrors and sensors suppose not only a design issue, but also new computational techniques are needed to deal with the large amount of data. Adaptive Optics is an essential part of extremely large telescopes, and it uses reference stars and a tomographic reconstructor to compensate the aberrations introduced by the atmosphere during observation. The Complex Atmospheric Reconstructor based on Machine lEarNing (CARMEN) is a tomographic reconstructor based on neural networks which has been used during on-sky observations. In this paper CARMEN will be implemented in two different neural network frameworks, which use a Graphics Processing Unit to improve their performance. To time the training and execution will provide results of which framework is faster for its implementation in a real telescope and will supply new tools to keep improving the reconstruction ability of CARMEN.

    摘要: This multidisciplinary paper reports on a research application-led study for predicting atmospheric attenuation, and tries to bridge the knowledge gap between applied engineering and atmospheric sciences. As a useful comparative baseline, this paper focuses specifically on atmospheric attenuation under pristine conditions, over the extended terahertz spectrum. Three well-known simulation software packages (‘HITRAN on the Web’, MODTRAN R(cid:13)4, and LBLRTM) are compared and contrasted. Techniques used for modeling atmospheric attenuation have been applied to investigate the resilience of (ultra-)wide fractional bandwidth applications to the effects of molecular absorption. Two extreme modeling scenarios are investigated: horizontal path links at sea level and Earth-space path links. It is shown by example that a basic software package (‘HITRAN on the Web’) can give good predictions with the former, whereas sophisticated simulation software (LBLRTM) is required for the latter. Finally, with molecular emission included, carrier-to-noise ratio fade margins can be calculated for the effects of line broadening due to changes in macroscopic atmospheric conditions with sub-1-THz ultra-narrow fractional bandwidth applications. Outdoors can be far from pristine, with additional atmospheric contributions only briefly introduced here; further discussion is beyond the scope of this paper, but relevant references have been cited.

  • Near-Surface Plasma Formed by Dual-Pulse Laser Action at Two Wavelengths on Titanium in Air

    摘要: Spectra and structures of near-surface plasma torches were studied experimentally by measuring the speci? c mass loss and plume luminosity caused by dual-pulse laser radiation at wavelengths 1064 and 532 nm on titanium in air as functions of the time between laser pulses and their sequence. Dependences of the laser-plasma temperature and concentration of charged particles on the paired laser pulse parameters were established at laser radiation power densities q1064 ≤ 3.1·109 and q532 ≤ 2.7·109 W/cm2 for λ = 1064 and 532 nm. The optimal conditions for recording erosion plasma spectra had the initial effect from second-harmonic radiation with a time interval between pulses of 4–5 μs; for speci? c mass loss, 3–6 μs. The results were important for enhancing the ef? ciency of laser emission spectral analysis and laser-plasma processing of materials.

  • Research of the Structure Defects at Wire-Feed Laser and Laser-Arc Deposition with AlMg6

    摘要: In comparison with other additive methods, the wire additive manufacturing has some advantages, chief among: high deposition rate and low price for consumables. Otherwise there are some disadvantages such as a high level of internal defects (hot, cold cracks, pores). Adding laser radiation to a WAAM process can significantly reduce data flaws. In this paper outlined research results on the effect of laser radiation (pulsed and permanent) on structure and internal defects of deposit layers to create three-component structures from AlMg6 alloy. Reported samples was made by using hybrid laser-arc method and by applying a single laser. Presented photos of macrosections of obtained samples. Spectral analysis was performed to identify the nature of changes of grains in different processes. Were made the measurements of internal defects and chemical analysis of the obtained walls.

  • Laser-plasma-cladding as a hybrid metal deposition-technology applying a SLM-produced copper plasma nozzle

    摘要: Laser-Metal-Deposition (LMD) and Plasma-Transferred-Arc (PTA) are well known technologies which can be used for cladding purposes. The prime objective in combining LMD and PTA as a Hybrid Metal Deposition-Technology (HMD) is to achieve high deposition rates at low thermal impact. Possible applications are coatings for wear protection or repair welding for components made of steel. The two energy sources (laser and plasma arc) build a joint process zone and are configurated to constitute a stable process at laser powers between 0.4-1 kW (defocused) and plasma currents between 75-200 A. Stainless steel 316L serves as filler material. For this HMD process, a plasma Cu-nozzle is designed and produced by powder bed based Selective Laser Melting. The potential of the HMD technology is investigated and discussed considering existing processes. This paper demonstrates how the interaction of the two energy sources effects the following application-relevant properties: deposition rate, powder efficiency and energy input.
