  • The Strong Inhibitory Effect of Combining Anti-Cancer Drugs AT406 and Rocaglamide with Blue LED Irradiation on Colorectal Cancer Cells

    摘要: There is still no satisfying method to treat colorectal cancer (CRC) currently. Inspired by cocktail therapy, the combination of 465 nm blue LED irradiation and two multi-target anticancer agents AT406 and Rocaglamide has been investigated for a revolutionary way to treat colorectal cancer cells in vitro. It showed a strong inhibitory effect on colorectal cancer cells, and its side effects on human normal cells are negligible. When applied to HCT116 cells, it can achieve an apoptotic rate up to 95%. It is also seen to significantly inhibit proliferation of HT29 cells. Furthermore, little to no cell inhibition or damage of normal MRC-5 cells were seen after treatment. The combination of blue LED irradiation and two anti-cancer drugs causes apoptosis of colorectal cancer cells by activating the apoptotic pathway, inhibiting autophagy and proliferation pathways as well as the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS).

    摘要: Wireless Sensor Networks and Satellite Remote Sensing are some of the existing techniques that are used to collect, analyze and interpret data from the agricultural crop sites. However, there are certain limitations common to both of these techniques that are concerned with the latency and the resolution of the data collected. UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) are becoming another alternative that has become integral nowadays due to its affordable and scalable nature while offering user friendly requirements and customizations. This proposes a novel and cost-effective technique (LEDCOM) that harnesses the capabilities of ground sensors and unmanned UAV while using computer vision methods to produce a qualitative data analysis system that describes the crop site under supervision. An UAV is assumed to collect the ground based sensor node data in the form of binary patterns on LED Arrays that is encoded in the image taken by a camera of a drone. Image processing techniques are used to identify and decode the LED sequences from the arrays. The performance of the proposed system is evaluated under different features and image resolutions within the same lighting conditions. A promising performance is observed for LED pattern identi?cation from the challenging images taken from a height.

    摘要: Electricity is an essential need for humans, specifically for the lighting function. Lighting is needed to aid humans visually perceive objects in areas that require lighting, both at night and during the day. At this day, there are two type of lamps that are extensively employed, paticularly the type of Light-Emitting Diode (LED) and Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL). The adoption of lights in an area takes a lot of energy, so it is particularly crucial to choose the appropriate type of lamp that is adequate to perform effectively and efficiently. To determine the light distribution of the two types of lights, it is crucial to investigate the distribution of light. The investigation was carried out by the direct measurement technique on 6 and 8 watt LED lamps, as well as on CFL lamps 11 and 14 watt using luxmeter in an area projecting 3x4 meters. The analysis range is varied in several horizontal and vertical points. From the assessment results it was noticed that the LED and CFL lamps the value of the light intensity reduces if the horizontal and vertical distance of the measurement point are far from the lamp. The ends of the light distribution mapping discovered that the light distribution on the LED lights is better indeed and brighter at each point. This is because all the electrons recombine with holes. Whereas in the CFL lamp there has been a filament heating and ionization between the electrons with argon gas and mercury vapor which generates another energy which is relatively large heat energy.

    摘要: A method for measuring the 3 dB frequency of the full modulation of separate spectral components of electroluminescence spectrum of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) is described. The method consists in passing through the LED a series of current pulses having the shape of a meander, and the emission spectrum of the LED is measured by a spectrometer OceanOptics USB2000+ in the mode of signal accumulation. As the pulse frequency increases, the intensity of all spectral components of the LED emission spectrum decreases. The frequency at which the optical signal decreases 1.19 times relative to the level measured at a low frequency is taken as the 3 dB frequency of the separate spectral component of the LED electroluminescence spectrum. By using the pulse signal it is possible to increase the sensitivity of the measuring means compared to the measuring means using the harmonic test signal. A description of the hardware-software complex implementing said measurement method is presented. The results of testing the measuring complex by the electroluminescence spectra of commercial green InGaN-based LEDs at the current range of 10-5...10-2 A and the current frequency range of 0.001...10 MHz are presented. The developed hardware-software complex and the method for estimating the spectral recombination parameters of heterojunction LEDs can be used both for the purpose of diagnosing the quality of LEDs and in developing structural and technological solutions for creating new light-emitting structures.

This paper proposes, the digital automation of entire life test setup process using embedded system. The entire test process is monitored and results are displayed in LCD. This gives accurate run time and life of LED lamp during the test. The information of lamp failure and completion of test is sent through mail to concerned person.

  • An efficient wide input wide output <scp>CrCM flyback</scp> converter <scp>in high</scp> a??power <scp>LED</scp> lighting

    摘要: This paper deals with a power factor corrected (PFC) flyback converter for high-power light emitting diode lighting applications. This flyback converter is designed to operate in critical conduction mode to achieve improved power quality at universal AC mains and high efficiency with the low component count. The converter is analyzed using state-space analysis with closed-loop stability under varying input and output conditions. The PFC converter is designed and implemented with wide input and wide output variations. The performance of the prototype is also investigated for improved power quality such as power factor and harmonics distortion of AC mains current at universal AC mains of 85 to 265 V. The achieved efficiency of this converter is 92% and total harmonic distortion is less than 6% over universal AC mains for a prototype of 100 W, which are much improved results as compared to discontinuous conduction mode operation of the same converter.

  • Advances in automotive interior lighting concerning new LED approach and optical performance

    摘要: Automotive interior lighting has to follow general trends in lighting and will therefore evolve toward hundreds and even thousands of RGB LEDs per car. Creating mood at day and night, pixelated sign-like information, and theater-like effects like welcome and goodbye messages are examples for outstanding user experience. Furthermore, safety features such as warnings and driving state are a must for autonomous cars. It requires new concepts for the whole interior lighting system to reach premium quality such as data rate (beyond today's bus standard for lighting), support for safety rules, compensation of temperature effects, daylight performance (including huge dimming range for night drive), uniformity in terms of luminance and color along the light guide, and mixing of red, green, and blue (RGB) with white. We report a new automotive RGB light-emitting diode (LED) system that fulfills the above requirements and saves effort as well as cost by calibration before integration. Extensive studies were performed for daylight threshold evaluation with subjects and methods for judging on uniformity for direct-lit RGB light guides based on the contrast sensitivity function and Gaussian fit of the LED luminance profile.

  • Improvement in efficiency and luminous power of AlGaN-based D-UV LEDs by using partially graded quantum barriers

    摘要: In this article, we have demonstrated a new AlGaN-based D-UV LED (Deep-Ultraviolet Light Emitting Diode) structure and investigated improved electrical output characteristics theoretically. In the new structure, we have used partially graded quantum barriers (PQBs) rather than stepped quantum barrier (SQBs) as setup in conventional LEDs. The simulation results confirm that the usage of PQBs in new D-UV LED structure notably enhances the internal quantum efficiency (IQE), light output power (LOP) or luminous power and enhances power spectral density in the D-UV region. The reason behind this improvement is higher potential barrier for carriers in the active region which helps in improving the carrier’s confinement in the quantum wells and favors significant increment in radiative recombination.

  • Improved Leakage and Output Characteristics of Pixelated LED Array for Headlight application

    摘要: We investigated the effects of etching conditions on the performance of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) of various sizes aimed at vehicle headlamp applications. Photoluminescence (PL) images showed that after wet etching, the percentage of bad LED arrays significantly increased from 75% to 94%, and the leakage current at ?5 V significantly increased from 1.14 × 10?9 A to 5.02 × 10?6 A. It was shown that plasma etching turned an Ag layer into Ag particles, the size and density of which depended on the treatment time and Ag layer thickness. These Ag particles served as micro-masks during dry etching. Plasma etching produced relatively uniform hillocks of diameters 0.9–1.43 μm and heights 0.85–2.5 μm. Moreover, the PL images showed that dry etching did not degrade the LED arrays. Furthermore, the light output power of the dry-etched LEDs was higher than that of the wet-etched LEDs. For example, the output power levels of the dry-etched LEDs (chip sizes: 240 × 290 μm2, 240 × 490 μm2, and 490 × 1190 μm2) at 100 mA were 20.4%, 15.0%, and 11.2% higher than those of the corresponding wet-etched LEDs, respectively. Moreover, we demonstrated a vehicle headlamp unit consisting of Ag-particle-based plasma-etched LEDs.

  • Ketone derivatives as photoinitiators for both radical and cationic photopolymerizations under visible LED and application in 3D printing

    摘要: Six ketones (abbreviated as ketones 1-6) varying by the substitution pattern of the central cyclohexanones and the choice of the peripheral groups (thiophene or furane) were synthesized and proposed as unprecedented visible light sensitive photoinitiators, in combination with an amine and an iodonium salt, for the free radical polymerization of acrylates upon LED irradiation at 405 nm. For the photopolymerization of acrylates carried out as thin samples in laminate, all these ketones showed high photoinitiating abilities. Conversely, when tested as photoinitiators for thick samples, compared to the other 4 ketones, ketone 3 and ketone 5 both based onpiperidin-4-one as the central core and comprising furanes as peripheral groups proved to be the most efficient photoinitiators. Notably, the highest final polymerization conversion of Ebecryl 40, a tetrafunctional polyether acrylate, could be obtained using these two photoinitiators. The high photoreactivity of ketone 3 was highlighted by the steady state photolysis experiments. Meanwhile, ketone 3 could also promote the cationic polymerization of epoxides upon LED irradiation at 405 nm, in the presence of an iodonium salt. Interestingly, some 3D patterns could also be fabricated by free radical polymerization of Ebecryl 40 while using the ketone 3-based photoinitiating system.
