  • Crystal growth and characterization of γ-glycine grown from AgSO4 for nonlinear optical applications

    摘要: In the present work 0.1 M to 0.5 M proportions of silver sulphate (AgSO4) added glycine single crystals were grown by slow solvent evaporation method. The Powder XRD study confirms that the grown crystals have γ-glycine crystal structure and it crystallizes into a hexagonal structure with a non-centrosymmetric space group of P31. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss of grown crystal was carried out as a function of frequency and the results were discussed. The positive photoconducting nature of the grown crystals was studied by the photoconductivity study. Second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of the grown γ-glycine crystal was assessed by using Nd: YAG laser. The results confirms that the grown crystals have higher efficiency compared to the reference (KDP) crystal.

  • Structural and conduction behaviour of (BaSr)0.5TiO3 modified in BFO perovskite

    摘要: The multiferroic ceramic (BiBa0.5Sr0.5)0.5 (Fe0.5Ti0.5) O3 (BFO-BST) is prepared in an economic way by conventional solid state reaction route and its different behaviours are studied and reported. The X-Ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) investigations have confirmed single phase forming by the compound. Full proof reitveld analysis has been used for structural refinement. XRD pattern of the sample it is inferred that the observed peaks and calculated peaks are well matched with each other having minimum deviation. The density of the compound is quiet high as calculated by above analysis as well as from SEM image. Dielectric behaviour of the compound has been analyzed through the variation of dielectric constant with frequency while the electrical behaviour is studied through the complex impedance and modulus analysis. Additionally, verification of Jonscher's power law from ac conductivity study gives the detail findings about electrical behaviour of the material.

  • Synthesis, crystal structure, vibrational and optical properties of a new Bi(III) halide complex: (C9H13N2O2)2Bi2Cl8

    摘要: A new Bi(III) halide complex, (C9H13N2O2)2Bi2Cl8, was successfully grown by slow evaporation method. The structure of this hybrid compound was determinated by single crystal X-ray diffraction and further characterized by IR and RAMAN spectra, UV-Visible, luminescence and DFT calculations. This compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system P21/n space group with the following lattice parameters: a = 10.2036 (4), b = 9.8723 (4), c = 14.5920 (6) ?, ? = 99.899 (4)°, V = 1448.01 (10) ?3 and Z =2. The crystal structure of this compound was solved by direct methods and refined to R = 0.038 (wR = 0.079), based on 4118 unique observed reflections. The crystal structure consists of a 1-(2-furoyl)piperazinium cation and discrete (0D) anion built up of edge-sharing bioctahedra which are linked by bifurcated N-H…Cl and N-H…O hydrogen bonds to build up the whole molecular packing. The optical properties of this compound were studied by UV–Vis, luminescence spectroscopy and by Time Dependent Density Functional Theory studies. The vibrational properties of this compound were investigated by Infrared and Raman spectroscopy and compared with the calculated ones. The nature and amount of contacts in the crystal packing were investigated by means the Hirshfeld surfaces. Ab-initio and DFT calculations were also performed on whole compound and on reduced model: bis(μ2-chloro)-diaqua-hexachloro-di-bismuth.

  • Structural, optical, electrical and thermal characteristics of La{CS(NH2)2CO(NH2)2}Cl3 : A novel hybrid complex for optoelectronic applications

    摘要: A hybrid complex of lanthanum chloride with urea and thiourea is crystallized at room temperature by conventional solution method. The structural investigations by single crystal X-ray diffraction confirmed the orthorhombic system with cell dimensions a = 7.676 ?, b = 8.564 ?, c = 5.498 ?, α = β = γ = 90°. The optical studies by UV–VIS absorption spectroscopy shows the complex exhibits transmittance about 96%. The complex is characterized as the wide band gap crystals with value greater than 4 eV. The dielectric properties were studied in frequency range 10 kHz–1 MHz in temperature range 303–453 K. The ac conductivity was found to obey the universal power law and suggests the correlated barrier hoping mechanism dominating the conduction process. The thermal stability and the decomposition mechanism were confirmed by thermo gravimetric and differential thermo analytical (TG/DTA) techniques.

  • Catalytic Growth of 1D ZnO Nanoneedles on Glass Substrates Through Vapor Transport

    摘要: In this study, one-dimensional (1D) zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoneedles are successfully fabricated on a Ag catalyst-coated glass substrate through simple physical vapor deposition via thermal evaporation of zinc (Zn) powder in the presence of oxygen (O2) gas at a low growth temperature of 450°C. The growth rate and diameter of ZnO nanoneedles increase as a function of varying silver (Ag) film thicknesses and argon (Ar) flow rates. Detailed structural investigations confirm that the synthesized nanoneedles have high crystallinity with a hexagonal wurtzite structure, and they preferentially grow along the c-axis orientation. This approach provides a simple and cost-effective method for the synthesis and controlled growth of 1D nanostructures, which can be useful in solid-state devices and various optoelectronic applications.

  • Fraction of Rare-Earth (Sm/Nd)-Lanthanum Ferrite-Based Perovskite Ferroelectric and Magnetic Nanopowders

    摘要: Multiferroic compound, especially LaFeO3-based perovskite nanopowders that exhibit robust simultaneous ferromagnetism and ferroelectricity, are widely investigated and applied in different applications. In this work, we report the synthesis and characterization pertaining to fraction of rare-earth (Sm/Nd)-substituted lanthanum ferrite based perovskite nanopowders via solid-state technique. The multiferroic phenomenon is the fundamental approach to combine both the ferromagnetic and ferroelectric properties in a single system. Reduction in crystallite size, as well as some lattice distortion effects, are included to show the possibilities of tuning the lattice structure, electrical, optical as well as the magnetic properties which are closely connected to the ferroelectric behavior and magnetism. At room temperature, the ferroelectric behavior of La0.9(Sm/Nd)0.1FeO3 exhibiting a P-E hysteresis loop became more and more pronounced, indicating the electrical leakage is greatly reduced. The canted antiferromagnetic hysteresis loop shows that the rare-earth (Sm/Nd) ion can significantly affect the magnetic parameters of the materials.

  • Structural, morphological, composition and optical properties of undoped zinc oxide thin films prepared by spray pyrolysis method: effect of solution concentrations

    摘要: The aim of this paper is the study of transparent undoped zinc oxide thin films obtained by spray pyrolysis technique on glass substrates heated at 350 °C from 0.1 to 0.4 mol solution concentrations using zinc acetate dehydrate as precursor. The X-ray diffraction patterns and Raman spectrometry with respect to Urbach energy and wurtzite structure, show that the maximum value of the high frequency intensity E2 and the optimal value of the optical gap are obtained at 0.2 mol concentration. Furthermore, an appropriate transparency is obtained and that makes these films suitable for photovoltaic windows layer cells.

  • Dielectric and Transport Properties of Strontium Modified Calcium Copper Titanate

    摘要: The present article provides the detailed study of the effect of strontium on the structural, microstructural, dielectric and electrical characteristics of strontium modified calcium copper titanate (i.e. Ca0.95Sr0.05Cu3Ti4O12, referred as CSCTO further) synthesized by a cost-effective ceramic processing technology. The structural analysis carried out suggests a cubic symmetry in the prepared sample. The dielectric relaxation and electrical conduction mechanism of CSCTO were studied using various powerful spectroscopic tools (i.e dielectric and impedance). Study of temperature dependence of dielectric permittivity exhibits very high (giant) dielectric permittivity (5 (cid:1) 103) and low loss factor at low frequency (1 kHz) at an intermediate temperature (315 (cid:3)C). Structure–properties relationship and conduction mechanism have been studied in a wide frequency (103–106 Hz) and temperature (25–315 (cid:3)C) range. At region of low frequency and high temperatures, there is a dominant role of the interface and Maxwell–Wagner dielectric relaxation mechanism in CSCTO bulk ceramic. The grain, grain boundary and electrode contributes towards the capacitive and resistive property of the sample are discerned from Nyquist plot. The ferroelectric (P–E) loop of the sintered CSCTO bulk sample at room temperature showed a lossy hysteresis loop. These findings further promote the capabilities of CSCTO as a base for supercapacitor.

  • Synthesis of Bismuth Ferrite BiFeO <sub/>3</sub> by solution combustion method

    摘要: In this work we describe the synthesis of bismuth ferrite BiFeO3 (BFO) by the method of combustion in solution. Using the techniques of X-ray diffraction (XRD) together with its refinement Rietveld reveals the existence of a distorted rhombohedral perovskite structure (Space group-R3c). The average size of the BFO crystallite was estimated from the half-height width of the X-ray diffraction peaks using the Scherrer’s equation. The morphology of the prepared sample was determined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and stoichiometry ratio of BFO was determined by energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS)

  • X-ray Diffraction Analysis of the Angular Stability of Self-Catalyzed GaAs Nanowires for Future Applications in Solar Light Harvesting and Light Emission Devices

    摘要: Semiconductor nanowires are a class of materials that recently have gained increasing interest in solar cell applications and light emitting devices. Finding reproducible processing conditions is fundamental for their future mass production. In this work, the stability of individual epitaxial GaAs nanowires (NWs) under molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) processing conditions is studied by means of a time-resolved in-situ micro X-ray diffraction (XRD) method and scanning electron microscopy. Our proposed micro XRD method is a non-destructive characterization technique where individual nano-objects of different dimensions, crystal orientations, and structures are detectable under MBE processing conditions. NWs were grown by self-catalyzed MBE onto pre-patterned Si(111) substrate. When exposed to MBE processing conditions at 610 °C without supply of source material, or with only arsenic supply, we observe evaporation from the facets with no indication of gallium droplet formation. Furthermore, the NWs, which are initially grown perpendicular to the substrate surface become angularly unstable i.e. the NWs tilt and eventually lie down on the substrate surface. Before falling down, our micro XRD data evidenced vibrations/bending of the NWs. Interestingly, when exposed to the original growth conditions which include gallium and arsenic supply, the vibrations/bending are suppressed and the tilting can be reversed. The findings in this paper can also provide insights towards engineering of self-catalyzed GaAs NW growth by removal of parasitic growth objects which inevitably grow together with NWs.
