    摘要: We demonstrate a high-power blue emitting superluminescent diode (SLD) with a tilted-facet configuration. An optical power of 457 mW with a broad spectral bandwidth of 6.5 nm was obtained under pulsed current injection of 1A, leading to a large power-bandwidth product of ~2970 mW·nm.

  • Optical Characterization of Doped Thermoplastic and Thermosetting Polymer-Optical-Fibers

    摘要: The emission properties of a graded-index thermoplastic polymer optical fiber and a step-index thermosetting one, both doped with rhodamine 6G, have been studied. The work includes a detailed analysis of the amplified spontaneous emission together with a study of the optical gains and losses of the fibers. The photostability of the emission of both types of fibers has also been investigated. Comparisons between the results of both doped polymer optical fibers are presented and discussed.

  • A cyanostilbene-based molecule with aggregation-induced emission properties: amplified spontaneous emission, protonation effect and electroluminescence

    摘要: A terpyridine-substituted cyanostilbene derivative (Z)-2-(4′-([2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridin]-4′-yl)-[1,1′-biphenyl]-4-yl)-3-phenylacrylonitrile (CNSTPy) was synthesized and characterized. The compound exhibits remarkable aggregation-induced emission phenomenon and its single crystal shows a blue emission with fluorescent efficiency as high as 45%. Based on its aggregation state behavior, multiple applications towards exploring its lasing, fluorescence switching and electroluminescence properties were realized. Amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) was observed from the crystal and verified by the variable pump strip method, with a threshold value of ~1.5 mJ cm?2. The protonation/deprotonation processes accompanied by the formation of different molecular aggregation structure result in the distinct blue and yellow emissions. Additionally, the molecule also shows a moderate electroluminescence performance.

    摘要: the division technique of the total optical noise in (FRA) onto stimulated and spontaneous parts is presented in this work. The maximum power of the amplified spontaneous noise in silica single-mode fiber is experimentally studied as function of the pump power variation in the idle mode of counter-pumped FRA. It is shown that the real FRA noise figure may be considerably less than 3 dB at a pump power of several hundreds of mW.

  • Glass-forming derivatives of 2-cyano-2-(4H-pyran-4-ylidene) acetate for light-amplification systems

    摘要: A series of 2-cyano-2-(4H-pyran-4-ylidene) acetate derivatives with triphenyl and 9H-carbazole moieties were synthesized and investigated, mostly for potential applications in organic solid state lasers. Synthesized compounds show remarkable amorphous film formation ability, tunable thermal properties (thermal stability varies from 190 °C to 387 °C and glass transition temperature from 94 °C up to 141 °C) with light absorption from 400 nm to 600 nm and photoluminescence from 600 nm up to 800 nm. Dyes with incorporated mono-styryl-electron donating fragment (KTB, KTBC and KTB3K) showed higher photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) (from 16% up to 23%), significantly lower amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) excitation threshold values (24–52 μJ/cm2) in pure thin films comparing to bis-styryl- electron donating fragment containing molecules (Bis-K4C, Bis-K5C and Bis-K4CK) with PLQY of 5–7% and ASE excitation threshold between 165 and 223 μJ/cm2. Some of the investigated KTB-type laser dyes could be perspective materials for organic lasers as well as for laser technology investigation and applications.

  • Pulsed Laser Photopatterning of Cesium Lead Halide Perovskite Structures as Robust Solutiona??Processed Optical Gain Media

    摘要: Solution-processed optical gain media such as thin films of colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals promise ease of fabrication and scalable production while offering a spectrally wide range of emission colors. However, depositing such gain media in a size- and shape-specific manner at a precise location on a substrate can be highly challenging. In this work, a facile approach for fabricating solution-processed cesium lead halide perovskite structures of any arbitrary shape and size from their nanocrystal counterparts via a pulsed laser photopatterning process is demonstrated. The photopatterned structures resist solvation in both polar and nonpolar solvents, allowing for the straightforward removal of unpatterned regions. Their robustness is attributed to the ligand-removal, sintering, and photoannealing of the nanocrystals at the site of irradiation. Concomittantly, the photopatterning process results in lengthened Auger-dominated biexciton lifetimes and larger absorption cross-sections that permit relatively low amplified spontaneous emission thresholds. It is shown that the photopatterning process may be used to fabricate cesium lead halide based gain media capable of multiwavelength emission, orientation-dependent wavelength of emission, as well as functional operation while fully immersed in various solvents. It is envisioned that the photopatterning process may be extended to other perovskite systems to include applications beyond those requiring light-emission.

  • Effect of P-to-Rare Earth Atomic Ratio on Energy Transfer in Er-Yb-Doped Optical Fiber

    摘要: Erbium (Er)- and Ytterbium (Yb)-doped optical fibers (EYDFs) have been used in various industrial fields as the only technology suitable for >1 W high-power amplifiers in the 1550-nm band. The output power is mainly limited by unwanted 1-μm band amplified spontaneous emissions from excited Yb3+; however, the factors affecting the output performance remain unclear. Here, we quantitatively and systematically reveal that the Phosphorus (P)-to-rare earth atomic ratio in the EYDFs has an optimal value for achieving the best output performance of EYDFs. We experimentally evaluated the quantitative relationship among co-dopants by fabricating preforms, drawing them as fibers, and measuring the amplification characteristics. At an appropriate Er concentration (0.3–0.5 wt %), a pump-to-signal conversion efficiency of 45.4% was obtained when the P/(Yb + Er) atomic ratio was around 25. This study paves the way for energy saving in high-power applications, such as high-speed optical wireless communication and long-distance optical ranging.

  • One-step Co-evaporation of All-Inorganic Perovskite Thin Films with Room Temperature Ultralow Amplified Spontaneous Emission Threshold and Air-stability

    摘要: Inorganic cesium lead halide perovskite has been successfully applied in optoelectronic field due to its remarkable optical gain properties. Unfortunately, conventional solution-processed CsPbX3 films suffer unavoidable pinhole defects and poor surface morphology, severely limiting their performance on amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) and lasing application. Herein, a dual-source thermal evaporation approach is explored in our work to achieve a uniform and high-coverage CsPbX3 polycrystalline thin film. It is found that the one-step co-evaporated CsPbBr3 (OC-CsPbBr3) thin films without post-annealing exhibit an ultralow ASE threshold of ~ 3.3 μJ/cm2 and gain coefficient above 300 cm-1. The coexistence of cubic and orthorhombic phases in this materials naturally form an energy cascade for the exciton transfer process, which enables rapid accumulation of excitons. Stable ASE intensity without degradation for at least 7 hours is also realized from OC-CsPbBr3 thin films under continuous excitation, which is superior to that in the solution-processed CsPbBr3 thin film. Notably, a Fabry-Perot (F-P) cavity laser based on the OC-CsPbBr3 thin film is first achieved, featuring an ultralow lasing threshold (1.7 μJ/cm2) and directional output (beam divergence of ~ 3.8°). This work highlights the noteworthy optical properties of OC-CsPbBr3 thin films, leading to potential available applications in the integrated optoelectronic chips.

  • Multilayer dielectric coated Fabry Perot spectral beam combiner for high power, narrowband, widely tunable laser applications

    摘要: Spectral beam combination of tunable laser beams demonstrated, using a multilayer dielectric coated single cavity Fabry Perot (FP) filter. A stack of 19 layers using TiO2 and SiO2 was optimally designed and fabricated using an electron beam evaporation technique. This filter was characterized for transmission spectrum, surface morphology and laser induced damage threshold. The sharp transmission spectrum facilitated the spectral combination of closer wavelengths (< 10 nm) around 632.8 nm. This filter was utilized as an efficient spectral beam combiner as well as an amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) filter for the transmitting wavelength. This study finds direct application for tunable, multi-wavelength laser-based differential absorption lidar (DIAL) and atmospheric remote sensing applications. The application of this device was successfully demonstrated to spectrally combine high power, tunable copper vapor laser pumped dye laser beams. A mechanism to tune the FP transmission profile along with laser beam tunability was established.

  • Origin of Light Scattering in Dye Doped Polymeric Waveguides and the Dependence of Excitation Geometry on Coherent Random Lasing

    摘要: We present an experimental investigation on the origin of coherent random laser (RL) emission from 4-(dicyanomethylene)-2-methyl-6-(4-dimethylaminos-tyryl)-4H-pyran (DCM) doped polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) thin film (DCM-PVA) planar waveguide using various characterization techniques. Absorption and fluorescence spectra of the DCM-PVA thin film confirm the presence of aggregates at dye concentrations greater than 0.08 wt. %. Time correlated single photon counting measurements were perfomed to confirm the presence of dye aggregates in PVA matrix. X-ray diffraction studies reveal the semi-crystalline nature of the DCM-PVA thin film. The optical gain coefficient was determined by the variable stripe length method under 532 nm pulsed laser excitation and was found to be 2.1 cm-1 using the one-dimensional amplifier model for the 0.08 wt. % thin film. The RL emission of the planar waveguide depends on the geometry of the excitation spot. The emission spectrum consists of randomly positioned narrow spectral lines under stripe excitation geometry whereas, a smooth spectrum lacking the narrow peaks is observed under circular spot excitation, both above the lasing thresholds. The origin of weak scattering in DCM-PVA waveguide is attributed to the formation of dye aggregates and inhomogeneities created by the semi-crystalline nature of the film. The RL threshold decreases with an increase of the stripe length due to weak waveguiding in the planar film under stripe excitation. The high optical gain and low lasing thresholds attainable in DCM-PVA waveguides make them a promising candidate for the fabrication of polymer waveguide based photonic devices.
