摘要: The radiation pattern of an antenna under test is determined from measurements in a highly reflective, fully metallic measurement environment similar to a reverberation chamber. The undesired influence of the reflecting walls is eliminated by processing the data obtained for a large number of frequencies and different probe locations in the chamber. The post-processing concept effectively combines temporal and spatial filtering of the measured signals in an innovative field synthesis concept. S-Band measurements show the effectiveness of the proposed processing concepts. The accuracy is comparable to anechoic measurements, however, for the cost of increased measurement and post-processing effort.

摘要: The characterization of physically small antennas in the millimeter-wave range has proven to be a challenge. Several research groups have developed new antenna measurement systems to be able to characterize millimeter-wave antennas. These measurement systems mainly focus on the establishment of a well-defined connection between test equipment and the antenna-under-test (AUT) for radiation pattern measurements. However, uncertainties affecting the measurement results are not always well understood. We have investigated the effect of misalignment, the effectiveness of an anechoic environment for frequencies up to 90 GHz and the impact of spurious radiation of the probe.

摘要: The DLR Compact Test Range (CTR) is a dual reflector compact range in an electromagnetically shielded chamber for antenna and Radar Cross Section (RCS) measurements under far-field conditions [1]. The quiet zone dimensions allow an evaluation of a volume under test, containing the antenna under test (AUT) in position on the original support structure and surface. Precise in-situ parameters offer extra information about the installed AUT characteristics. These properties are particularly substantial for the radiometric and the polarimetric correction of the propagating signals in imaging microwave sensors, such as Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) instruments. F-SAR [2] is a high-resolution multi-frequency fully polarimetric airborne SAR with interferometric capabilities that is developed and operated by the DLR Microwaves and Radar Institute. Spherical swept frequency antenna measurements with continuous moving axis and forward/reverse scanning on offset position AUTs impose specific demands on the analysis. Higher order modes that are present due to test setup and physical constraints are considered in the post-processing. Still, stray signals from the antenna carrying aircraft structure in the proximity contribute to the antenna pattern and remain unfiltered. The particular requirements and status of the applied measurement and processing techniques are described.

摘要: A scatterometer operating in the bands from 50 to 750 GHz has been designed and fabricated. Operation in the different bands is achieved by using a Network Analyser with appropriate frequency extenders and corrugated horns. The beam is propagated using reflective quasi-optics on two levels with the sample being mounted on the lower level. The two levels are connected by a rotating periscope which collects the scattered radiation from the sample and transfers it to the upper level where the phase and amplitude are measured by the Network Analyser. The scatterometer can measure in both reflection and transmission and in VV, HH, VH and HV polarisations. During a measurement the Network Analyser heads and associated cables remain static to prevent drift. Rough reference samples have been developed for testing the scatterometer and preliminary results are reported in the 50 - 75 GHz band.
