摘要: Foveated imaging is of great interest for Augmented and Virtual Reality applications. The resolution losses off-axis simulated in foveated imaging are modelled using cone density on the retina. This article reviews the other factors limiting the resolution off-axis in AR/VR, in particular the impact of the eye lens. Several off-axis resolution simulations are proposed and compared in order to provide some theoretical compression ratios for 4K and 8K display systems. A model taking into account both the cone density across the retina and the optical performance of the eye lens is proposed and evaluated. The variability and challenges of modelling the human eye resolution losses are also discussed, in particular in the case of age-dependence.

摘要: The application developed is using Augmented Reality technique for pre-determine a patients individual pelvic posture. The Measurements were done under use of a hip model and a tracked ultrasound probe which was first covered with a 2D trackable marker and then coated with a water transfer printing technique. Three landmarks were needed for calculation of the pelvic posture. Preoperative examination of pelvic rotation could allow individualized placement of the acetabular cup for each hip patient, thereby reducing dislocation rates and impingement on the implant. Through interactive AR visualization the user could point the depth profile of the ultrasound image with a virtual pointer. For both trackable targets the pelvic posture was measured with a webcam and a smartphone camera. The trials were evaluated among themselves and on the basis of their repeatability and accuracy.

摘要: This study focused on the implementation of display technology used for providing information to hearing impaired students wishing studying Information Technology (IT) at a higher education level. In this work, virtual reality scenes superimposed on the real world were created, using a smartphone application with specialized equipment to provide the projection. The Augmented Reality (AR) of smartphone applications was designed with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in order to help with learning of hearing impaired high school students. The objective of the mobile AR application was to provide students with a tool to understand the content without the help of teachers. Because video content has been translated into the Thai sign language, smartphones could be used to read markers serving to provide education guidance for higher education. In AR technology, virtual objects are placed real-time on the real environment. To provide education guidance, the study used an AR application called Aurasma. A heuristic technique and the UDL were applied to the development of the education guidance on Aurasma. A total of 30 students of Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University took part in this study. The heuristic evaluation results of this study were rated as good and the application has a potential to help hearing impaired students to become more interested in higher education, resulting in more opportunities in higher education for them.

摘要: This paper proposes a method for gaze navigation in the real world by projecting an image onto a real object and changing its appearance. In the proposed method, a camera captures an image of objects in the real world. Next all the pixels in the image but those in a specified region are slightly shifted to left and right. Then the obtained image is projected onto the original objects. As a result, the objects not in the specified region looks blurred. We conducted user experiments and showed that the users’ gaze were navigated to the specified region.

摘要: Recently augmented reality (AR) technology has attracted a lot of attention and is studied. Furthermore, it is applied to the interaction technology between human and virtual objects. In AR interaction technology, it is necessary for the user to be able to manipulate virtual objects intuitively, so it is required to manipulate the objects by their hand. However, in AR technology, since the 3-dimensional model is superimposed on the image of the real space afterwards, it is always displayed on the front side than the hand (occlusion problem). It is an unnatural scene in some cases. In this study, we utilized Leap Motion Controller to acquire the depth data of the user’s hand and fingers. We performed hidden-surface processing considering the depth and the color of the hand and fingers. Thus we enabled appropriate hidden-surface processing in the area of the user’s hand and fingers.

AR aided Smart Sensing for In-line Condition Monitoring of IGBT Wafer
摘要: This paper describes an augmented reality (AR) aided smart sensing technique, for in-line condition monitoring of IGBT wafers. A series of signal processing algorithms are applied for enabling sensor intelligence. Based on electromagnetic infrared-visible-fusion (IVF), a supplementary palpable 3-D thermography layer is integrated with an IGBT wafer in real world environment. Before the IVF, independent component analysis (ICA) is implemented to identify defects in the wafer. The proposed AR aided smart sensing technique enhances user's perception and interaction between the industrial systems and the surrounding world. In contrast to conventional sensor techniques, it provides a non-destructive testing and evaluation (NDT&E) based high-throughput in-line condition monitoring method. The advantages of non-contact and time efficient of this smart sensing technique potentially bring huge benefit to yield management and production efficiency. AR aided smart sensing can improve the productivity, quality and reliability of power electronic materials and devices, as well as in other industrial applications.

摘要: The use of Optical See-Through Head-Mounted Displays (OST-HMDs) for presenting Augmented Reality experiences has become more common, due to the increasing availability of lower cost head-worn device options. Despite this growth, commercially available OST hardware remains devoid of the integrated eye-tracking cameras necessary for automatically calibrating user-specific view parameters, leaving manual calibration methods as the most consistently viable option across display types. The Single Point Active Alignment Method (SPAAM) is currently the most-cited manual calibration technique, due to the relaxation of user constraints with respect to allowable motion during the calibration process. This work presents the first formal study directly investigating the effects that alignment point distribution imposes on SPAAM calibration accuracy and precision. A user experiment, employing a single expert user, is presented, in which SPAAM calibrations are performed under each of five conditions. Four of the conditions cross alignment distance (arm length, room scale) with user pose (sitting, standing). The fifth condition is a control condition, in which the user is replaced with a rigidly mounted camera; the control condition removes the effect of noise from uncontrollable postural sway. The final experimental results show no significant impact on calibration due to user pose (sitting, standing). The control condition also did not differ from the user produced calibration results, suggesting that posture sway was not a significant factor. However, both the user and control conditions show significant improvement using arm's length alignment points over room scale alignments, with an order of magnitude difference in eye location estimate error between conditions.

摘要: This paper presents the factors that an Augmented Reality application designer must look at whilst implementing AR applications on mobile platforms. There are certain implementation and design issues that are critical to the success of an AR application. The trigger response time (TRT) and mobile platform battery consumption are the two main parameters that are looked at in the research preseted. The test application was designed using a combination of Vuforia, Unity and Blender platforms, and the mobile platform used was an Android based One Plus 3T phone. The results discuss the impact of trigger image complexity, 3d object complexity and ambient light on the response time and battery life.

摘要: Color vision deficiency (CVD), also known as color blindness, is commonly caused by genetic disorder. Unfortunately, as of 2018, there is not yet a cure for the condition. Contact lenses and glasses with color filter are possible solutions to CVD by applying uniform changes to user’s field of view (FoV). On the other hand, optical see-through head-mounted display (OST-HMD) can provide a controllable overlay to user’s FoV, which could help for making a better solution. To calibrate colors in FoV of a user with CVD, methods that often used, such as the daltonization process, need light reduce feature, which makes calibrated color darker. However, recent commercially available OST-HMDs don’t have a controllable way to decrease the brightness of incoming light. In this paper, we present an approach for light subtraction of OST-HMD using a transmissive LCD panel. A prototype system for achieving a controllable overlay to user’s FoV with OST-HMD by using scene camera, user-perspective camera, and the transmissive LCD panel was implemented.

摘要: This paper proposes a novel method for casting virtual shadows on real surfaces on an optical see-through head-mounted display without any extra physical filter devices. Instead, the method presents shadows as results of brightness induction. To produce brightness induction, we place a texture of the real scene with a certain transparency around the shadow area to amplify the luminance of the surrounding area. To make this amplification unnoticeable, the transparency of the surrounding region is gradually increased as the distance from the shadow region. In the experiment with 23 participants, we confirmed that users tend to perceive the shadow region is darker than a non-shadow area under the conditions where a circular virtual shadow is placed on a flat surface.
