研究目的
To propose a method for gaze navigation in the real world by changing the visual appearance of objects using a projector-camera system to guide users' gaze to a specified region.
研究成果
The proposed method successfully guides gaze to specified regions in many cases by making non-target objects appear blurred through projection. However, effectiveness varies with individual eyesight and object design. Future work should include formal user studies to better evaluate and optimize the approach.
研究不足
The method depends on users' eyesight and the visual saliency of object designs; it may not work effectively for all subjects or objects, and some subjects reported eye fatigue. The shift parameter and its correlation with eyesight need further optimization.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The method involves using a coaxial projector-camera system (procam) to capture an image of real-world objects, apply a shift filter to blur all pixels except a specified region, and project the modified image back onto the objects. The rationale is to make non-target regions appear blurred, guiding gaze naturally.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
12 noodle cups with different visual designs were used as real-world objects, arranged in a 3x4 grid. 12 subjects (10 males, 2 females, aged 21-27) were recruited, with corrected eyesight if necessary.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Acer H6510BD projector, FLIR Grasshopper
4:0 MP Color FireWire 1394b camera, Pupil gaze tracker, chin rest, desk, chair, and room lighting. Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Subjects viewed objects freely for 60 seconds without projection to familiarize themselves. Then, in 28 randomized trials (each 10 seconds), the shift filter was applied with varying parameters (0 to 9 pixels shift), including conditions where no, all, or specific objects were unshifted. Gaze was recorded using the eye tracker.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Gaze data were analyzed using heat maps to visualize gaze positions and durations, assessing whether gaze was guided to the unshifted region.
