  • Investigations on RE(TTA)3tppo (RE=Eu/Sm/Eu0.5 Sm0.5) rare earth β-diketonate complexes for OLEDs and solid state lighting

    摘要: Rare earth hybrid organic β-diketonate complexes of Eu(III), TTA and tppo; Eu(TTA)3tppo, Sm(TTA)3tppo and Eu0.5Sm0.5(TTA)3tppo [Eu: europium, Sm: samarium, TTA: Thenoyl Trifluoro Acetone, tppo: Triphenylphosphine oxide] were synthesized by solution technique, maintaining pH 7. X-ray diffractogram of all the complexes revealed their crystalline nature. TGA curves infer their thermal stability to be in the range of 2300C - 2600C. The optical energy band gap of these complexes was found to be in the range of 3.08 to 3.20 eV. When RE(TTA)3tppo complexes were excited at 377 nm, 382 nm and 382 nm respectively, the emission spectra portrays red emission, peaking at 616 nm, 645 nm and 616 nm in solid state, while in solvated state, hypsochromic shift (shift toward lower wavelength) was noticed. CIE co-ordinates and color correlated temperature (CCT) of the complexes tuned according to their emission wavelength. These investigations provide a good deal of information regarding their suitability for the fabrication of red to blue tunable light emitting organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), panel displays and solid state lighting panels on flexible substrates.

  • Micropatterning and defect engineering of colloidal photonic crystals <i>via</i> laser direct writing

    摘要: Micropatterning and defect engineering of colloidal photonic crystals (CPCs) play a significant role in the functionality of photonic crystals as they are crucial for optical chip integration, microcavity lasing, chemical sensing, etc. However, obstacles have arisen in recent years especially due to the lack of a general, cost-effective and versatile strategy to make these functional structures in one step. Traditional micro-/nanofabrication techniques may work for one structure but fail for another and the fabrication process is mostly complicated, which potentially incurs reproducibility issues. Here, point defects, waveguides and micropatterns with variable feature sizes (4B500 nm) can be easily created in polystyrene (PS)/SiO2 CPC films via laser direct writing, which is based on selective photodegradation of PS beads. By applying different laser powers or irradiation times, different coloured micropatterns and images with high resolution can be generated, which has great implications for image displays and anti-counterfeiting.

  • 3D-Integrated metasurfaces for full-colour holography

    摘要: Metasurfaces enable the design of optical elements by engineering the wavefront of light at the subwavelength scale. Due to their ultrathin and compact characteristics, metasurfaces possess great potential to integrate multiple functions in optoelectronic systems for optical device miniaturisation. However, current research based on multiplexing in the 2D plane has not fully utilised the capabilities of metasurfaces for multi-tasking applications. Here, we demonstrate a 3D-integrated metasurface device by stacking a hologram metasurface on a monolithic Fabry–Pérot cavity-based colour filter microarray to simultaneously achieve low-crosstalk, polarisation-independent, high-efficiency, full-colour holography, and microprint. The dual functions of the device outline a novel scheme for data recording, security encryption, colour displays, and information processing. Our 3D integration concept can be extended to achieve multi-tasking flat optical systems by including a variety of functional metasurface layers, such as polarizers, metalenses, and others.

  • POLED displays: Robust printing of pixels

    摘要: The fabrication of a high-quality polymeric organic light emitting diode display requires the deposition of identical, uniform ?uid ?lms into a large number of shallow recessed regions that form a regular array of pixels on a display backplane. We determine the protocols required to achieve continuous liquid coverage of the entire pixel area for the case where equally spaced ?uid droplets are sequentially printed along a straight line within a stadium-shaped pixel and explore how these protocols depend on the wetting properties of the pixel surface. Our investigation uses a combination of experiments and numerical modeling, based on the assumption of ?uid redistribution via capillary spreading according to a Cox-Voinov law. We show that the model is able to predict quantitatively the evolution of the liquid deposited in a pixel and provides a computationally inexpensive design tool to determine ef?cient printing strategies that account for uncertainties arising from imperfect substrate preparation or printhead dysfunction.

  • Inkjet‐Printed Micrometer‐Thick Patterned Perovskite Quantum Dot Films for Efficient Blue‐to‐Green Photoconversion

    摘要: Perovskite materials have attracted great attention as a potential color conversion material in the display field recently. However, preparing a large and thick patterned film remains to be a key challenge. Here, a patterned CsPbBr3 quantum dot color conversion layer is prepared using the inkjet-printing and UV-curing method. The prepared 6 μm film exhibits a uniform morphology without coffee-ring effect. Green emission is achieved with a brightness of 58 cd m?2 and narrow emission band is achieved using the 345 cd m?2 blue OLED excitation light. Furthermore, only 1.4% of decay in brightness is observed after the film is exposed to ambient environment for 1 month without any protection. Finally, a 6.6 in. active matrix perovskite quantum dot display prototype is demonstrated using the blue OLED backlight with 384 × 300 resolution for the first time.

  • Perovskite light-emitting diodes for uniform eight-segment displays

    摘要: With the development of the display technology, there are higher requirements for color saturation and vividness. As a base unit, light-emitting diode (LED) has become a primary object of study. Perovskite quantum dots with high photoluminescence quantum yield, narrow emission, and wide color gamut have attracted special attention in recent years. Although LEDs based on perovskite exhibit excellent performance, there are few applications of perovskite LEDs in display. Herein, LEDs based on CsPbI3 perovskite were used as basic units for fabricating eight-segment LED displays. The LEDs exhibited a luminance of 780 cd/m2 and an external quantum efficiency of 6%. The current-density and luminance vs driving voltage confirms the uniformity of these LEDs in the eight segments, which will promote the application of perovskite nanocrystalline LEDs in the field of full color display.

  • 8.3: <i>Invited Paper:</i> Ultra High Resolution Display for Digital Holography

    摘要: Ultra high resolution display panels are one of the technical trends for future display and essential for the realization of digital hologram. Two approaches for the development toward 1um pixel pitch are introduced. SLM panel with 3μm pixel pitch based on reflected TFT-LCD was fabricated. Reconstructed hologram images were successfully demonstrated. SLM based on phase change materials was under development. In this case the driving circuitry was consist of Si CMOS backplane. Due to the scalability of PCM materials, accomplishment of pixel pitch with 1μm is very promising.

  • Precipitating CsPbBr <sub/>3</sub> quantum dots in boro-germanate glass with a dense structure and inert environment toward highly stable and efficient narrow-band green emitters for wide-color-gamut liquid crystal displays

    摘要: All-inorganic perovskite CsPbBr3 quantum dots (QDs) are becoming the most popular narrow-band green emitter for use as a critical material in next generation wide-color-gamut backlight displays. However, their intrinsic poor stability greatly hinders their development for practical applications. Herein, CsPbBr3 QDs were successfully precipitated in boro-germanate glass (CsPbBr3 QDs@glass) with well-designed compositions, not only retaining a high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY of 43% upon 450 nm excitation) and narrow bandwidth (FWHM of 22 nm), but also showing significantly enhanced stability in relation to water, heat, and UV/blue irradiation. The relative PL intensity of CsPbBr3 QDs@glass was maintained at 60% or 85% after being immersed in water for 22 days or exposed to UV light for 100 hours, respectively. Moreover, CsPbBr3 QDs@glass samples present impressive recovery abilities in thermal cycling experiments or upon intermittent blue light irradiation. Finally, an all-inorganic white light-emitting diode (white LED) achieving 125% of National Television Standards Committee (NTSC) performance was fabricated through employing green-emitting CsPbBr3 QDs@glass and red-emitting Cs2SiF6:Mn4+ phosphor-in-glass (PiG) plates as color convertors. The design rules established here could initiate the further exploration of other glass systems with moderate halide solubilities and low melting temperatures to precipitate highly e?cient and stable CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) QDs.

  • Arduino Based Traffic Light System With Integrated LED Advertising Display

    摘要: Rapid advancement in scientific knowledge and growth in worldwide economic activities has led to a steep rise in the volume of vehicular activity for human and product mobility controls hence in addition to controllers are, therefore, a critical necessity of the modern – day society. Toward this end, this paper is aimed toward the design of microcontroller-based traffic control device taking as a case study the complex layout and linkage among the service roads of the Senate building and College of Science and Technology, Covenant University, Nigeria. The Arduino platform is the microcontroller preference for this idea. Also, to make this idea more effective and productive, a Light Emitting Diode (LED) advertising displays has been incorporated into its implementation to take advantage of the red light wait time to disseminate useful information or facts.
