  • Multifunctional semitransparent organic solar cells with excellent infrared photon rejection

    摘要: Semitransparent organic solar cells (ST-OSCs) have the potentials to open promising applications that differ from those of conventional inorganic ones, such as see-through power windows with both energy generation and heat insulation functions. However, to achieve so, there remain significant challenges, especially for balancing critical parameters, such as power conversion efficiency (PCE), average visible transparency (AVT) and low energy infrared photon radiation rejection (IRR) to realize the full potentials of ST-OSCs. Herein, we demonstrate the new design of ST-OSCs through the rational integration of organic materials, transparent electrode and infrared photon reflector in one device. With the assistance of optical simulation, new ST-OSCs with precise layout exhibit state-of-art performance, with near 30% AVT and PCE of 7.3%, as well as an excellent IRR of over 93% (780–2500 nm), representing one of best multifunctional ST-OSCs with promising perspective for window application.

  • 2- <i>μ</i> m band active distributed Bragg reflector laser for CO <sub/>2</sub> gas sensing

    摘要: We have developed a 2-μm-band active distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) laser for CO2 gas sensing employing single quantum well (SQW) gain in the tuning sections. The laser covers the double wavelength band with a <3-dB power penalty during tuning compared with our conventional DBR laser having no active SQW. The absorption-line detection of CO2 gas using the laser is also demonstrated. Furthermore, we show that the ~60% tuning efficiency for the tuning current of the active DBR laser compared with our conventional one is explained with an assumed rate equation including the carrier consumption for the active SQW gain.

  • 10 Gb/s NRZ and 20 Gb/s PAM4 transmission using an EAM-integrated widely tunable DBR laser

    摘要: We report data transmissions using a widely tunable InP-based distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) laser integrated monolithically with an electroabsorption modulator (EAM). The laser has a wavelength tuning range of over 12 nm that is obtained by current injection into the DBR section because the butt-jointed InGaAsP DBR material bandgap wavelength. Data transmissions of 10 Gb/s nonreturn to zero (NRZ) at distances of up to 75 km of a single mode fiber have been demonstrated. A power penalty of less than 0.9 dB has been obtained when compared to the BtB condition. In addition, four-level pulse amplitude transmissions of 20 Gb/s modulation (PAM4) data at distances of up to 45 km have been conducted successfully. These results indicate that the EAM-modulated DBR laser is promising for long-reach low-cost WDM optical network applications.

  • Two-Color Photodetector for the Visible Spectral Range Based on ZnSe/ZnS/GaAs Bragg Reflector

    摘要: Effect of the ZnSe/ZnS/GaAs distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) on the parameters of the spectral response of a photodiode based on rectifying contacts in the metal–semiconductor–metal (MSM) system is studied. The calculated photoreflection spectra of the ZnSe/ZnS/GaAs heterostructure are in good agreement with the experimental data. It is shown that the MSM diode provides two-color response of the photodetector at wavelengths of 420 and 472 nm, a sharp decrease in the photosensitivity in the long-wavelength part of the response signal, high quantum efficiency (53%), and low dark current (5 × 10–10 A). It is demonstrated that the narrow-band two-color response of the detector can be tuned to the desired wavelength using appropriate selection of the parameters of the heterostructure that forms that Bragg reflector.
