A tunable external cavity laser operating at excited states of bimodal-sized quantum-dot
摘要: In this paper, a tunable external cavity diode laser (ECDL) based on the first excited states of two independent quantum dot (QD) ensemble has been demonstrated. The device exhibits stabilized lasing with high power of 120 mW. We attribute the excellent output characteristics of the QD ECDL to carrier radiation recombination in high energy states, which has higher degeneracy than low energy states and can accommodate more carriers. The linewidth of ECDL is less than 0.2 nm, which is also much narrower than most of QD ECDLs as reported. Preliminary discussion attributes the spectra feature to the lower QD density and independent carrier transitions. The tunable range is 28.9 nm (970.1 ~ 999 nm) and the wavelength shift with the injection current is 0.7 nm/A.

Manipulating disordered plasmonic systems by external cavity with transition from broadband absorption to reconfigurable reflection
摘要: Disordered biostructures are ubiquitous in nature, usually generating white or black colours due to their broadband optical response and robustness to perturbations. Through judicious design, disordered nanostructures have been realised in artificial systems, with unique properties for light localisation, photon transportation and energy harvesting. On the other hand, the tunability of disordered systems with a broadband response has been scarcely explored. Here, we achieve the controlled manipulation of disordered plasmonic systems, realising the transition from broadband absorption to tunable reflection through deterministic control of the coupling to an external cavity. Starting from a generalised model, we realise disordered systems composed of plasmonic nanoclusters that either operate as a broadband absorber or with a reconfigurable reflection band throughout the visible. Not limited to its significance for the further understanding of the physics of disorder, our disordered plasmonic system provides a novel platform for various practical application such as structural colour patterning.

Blue Laser Diode System With an Enhanced Wavelength Tuning Range
摘要: A prism-based self-injection locked seamlessly tunable blue InGaN/GaN laser diode composite cavity system is presented. A rigorous analysis of this external cavity diode laser (ECDL) system is performed at two different optical feedback powers. At 130 mA low injection, the high reflection system (HRS) exhibits a record wideband tuning span of ~12.11 nm with a side-mode-suppression-ratio (SMSR) ≥ 15 dB, measuring as high as 40 dB, linewidth ≤ 110 pm, and a working power of about 3 mW. Whereas, a tuning range of 8 nm with linewidth ≤ 88 pm, SMSR ≥ 13 dB, reaching a maximum of 35 dB with 14.5 mW usable power is achieved from the low reflection system (LRS) at the same injection current. Moreover, an inverse relationship between the optical power and the tunability is observed in both the systems with a value as high as 180 mW exhibited by LRS configuration and attaining a tunability of 4.5 nm. Both systems highlight high stability even at higher injection currents and temperature. Such a robust, simple, and compact system may serve as a crucial light source in a plethora of diverse applications besides visible optical communications. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on a continuously tunable self-injection locked tunable laser system.

摘要: We investigate the strategies to reduce the noise of a class-A dual-frequency vertical external cavity surface emitting laser (VECSEL) operating at Cesium clock wavelength. We focus mainly on the beatnote phase noise of the two orthogonally polarized modes emitted. Within the framework of coupled rate equations, we show that the phase noise spectrum of the beatnote is well described by considering both the phase–amplitude coupling and the thermal effects. The spearhead of this study consists in ?rst theoretically evidencing reduction strategies for the phase noise beatnote by optimizing the physical parameters of the model and then experimentally demonstrating its feasibility by using two in-phase fully–correlated beams pumping each mode separately. Possible ways to decrease the intensity noises are also identi?ed.

An Ultra-High-SMSR External-Cavity Diode Laser with a Wide Tunable Range around 1550 nm
摘要: In this paper, a widely tunable external cavity diode laser (ECDL) with an ultra-high side mode suppression ratio (SMSR) was fabricated. Three configurations were constructed to investigate the relationship between the grating features and the SMSR. When a 1200 grooves/mm grating with a first order diffraction efficiency of 91% is utilized in the external-cavity laser system, a maximum SMSR of 65 dB can be achieved. In addition, the tunable range reaches 209.9 nm. The results show that the laser performance can be improved by proper high grating groove number and first-order diffraction efficiency.

摘要: The possibility of using optical Localized States (LSs) in resonators to code and process information bits has attracted a great deal of attention in the last twenty years [1]. LSs are stable solutions of dissipative systems characterized by a correlation range much shorter than the size of the hosting system. Temporal LSs (TLSs) have been recently reported in passively mode-locked (PML) semiconductor lasers [2]. It was shown that for cavity round-trip (cid:87) larger than the gain recovery (cid:87)g and for large modulation of the losses induced by the absorber, several pulsating states with different number of pulses coexist for the same parameter values. In this multistable regime mode-locked pulses become localized, i.e. they can be addressed individually [3]. This was implemented in an electrically-pumped broad-area Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL) coupled to a resonant semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM). VCSEL far-field transverse profile was imaged onto the SESAM in a self-collimating scheme for achieving stable mode-locking regime [4]. Though this peculiar scheme allowed efficient saturation of the SESAM, it also induced global coupling of the VCSEL’s transverse section.

摘要: In this work, an overview of requirements for compact optical modules and devices is presented, focusing on optical laser sources. Regarding coherent applications, the laser must have narrow linewidth, while, at the same time, be compact and present low power consumption, targeting C-form factor pluggable (CFP) modules. Latest results obtained by our group on laser development are presented, showing that the External-Cavity Laser (ECL) can fulfill the requirements for this application.

摘要: The results of analysis of distortion of interferometric signal of a semiconductor laser with the current modulation are presented. The mathematical model of the interferometric signal was refined based on experimental data. Measurements were performed for harmonic and triangular auxiliary modulation, and the effect of laser thermal stabilization on the modulation of the interferometric signal was studied.

Development of an Interference Filter-Stabilized External-Cavity Diode Laser for Space Applications
摘要: The National Time Service Center of China is developing a compact, highly stable, 698 nm external-cavity diode laser (ECDL) for dedicated use in a space strontium optical clock. This article presents the optical design, structural design, and preliminary performance of this ECDL. The ECDL uses a narrow-bandwidth interference ?lter for spectral selection and a cat’s-eye re?ector for light feedback. To ensure long-term stable laser operation suitable for space applications, the connections among all the components are rigid and the design avoids any spring-loaded adjustment. The frequency of the ?rst lateral rocking eigenmode is 2316 Hz. The ECDL operates near 698.45 nm, and it has a current-controlled tuning range over 40 GHz and a PZT-controlled tuning range of 3 GHz. The linewidth measured by the heterodyne beating between the ECDL and an ultra-stable laser with 1 Hz linewidth is about 180 kHz. At present, the ECDL has been applied to the principle prototype of the space ultra-stable laser system.
