  • Variable Frequency Control of a Photovoltaic Boost Converter System with Power Quality Indexes Based on Dynamic Phasors

    摘要: Dynamic phasors modeling technique has demonstrated to be a good methodology for modeling oscillatory dynamic systems such as electric machines, power electronics and FACTS. Its main advantages are accuracy and fast simulation. However, something that has not been much exploited, is that Fourier coefficients can be used to compute the voltage module at some specific frequency for example, and with this extra information design new control algorithms to improve the behavior of the system. In this work, an extended model of a PV-boost converter system is developed, considering the main harmonics of the system that appear for a wide range of operation. Then, with this extra information contained in the harmonics, two new approaches are proposed: 1) Design of a variable frequency control of the boost converter to improve the quality of the output voltage under irradiation and load changes, and 2) Definition of power quality indexes for monitoring oscillatory behavior. Simulation results demonstrate the proposal effectiveness, establishing the mathematical basis and analyzing the dynamics of a 12.8 kWp photovoltaic system under different scenarios of operation.

  • A hybrid shuffled frog‐leaping and pattern search algorithm for load frequency controller design of a two‐area system composing of PV grid and thermal generator

    摘要: The shuffled frog-leaping algorithm (SFLA) is a nature-inspired metaheuristic swarm-based optimization algorithm, which mimics the social behavior of memetics. The SFLA comprises an arrangement of communicating virtual population of frogs divided into various memeplexes. Many attempts have been made to find the variant of the SFLA that performs better on a variety of optimization tasks by making the original SFLA more complex. This paper proposes the hybrid approach by combining the SFLA algorithm with a pattern search algorithm, which improves the original technique named as the hybrid shuffled frog-leaping and pattern search algorithm (hSFLA-PS). The superiority of the proposed hybrid algorithm over the original SFLA in terms of implementation time and solution quality is compared by taking several benchmark test functions. In the next step, the real application of the proposed hybrid approach in the engineering field is done by designing a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller for frequency regulation of a two-area power system that is composed of a photovoltaic (PV) grid and a thermal generator. It is observed that the hSFLA-PS–based PID controller is more effective for the load frequency control compared with conventional controllers tuned with genetic algorithm (GA) and firefly algorithm (FA).

  • Realization of a Power-Efficient Transmitter Based on Integrated Artificial Neural Network

    摘要: In wireless devices, a transmitter normally consumes most of power due to its power ampli?er (PA), especially in the applications like radar, base station, mobile phone, etc. It is highly desirable to design a transmitter that can emit signals smartly, i.e., the power emission is exactly based on the emitting distance required and the target. Such a design can save huge amount of power as there are almost countless wireless devices in use currently. In this work, an intelligent radio frequency (RF) transmitter integrated with arti?cial neural network (ANN) is implemented. The intelligent transmitter consists of an ANN module, a frequency generation module, and a switch-mode power ampli?er. The integrated three-layered fully-connected ANN can be of?ine trained to smartly classify input data according to the required power and assign the transmission channel. Furthermore, with the integrated ANN, the average power consumption of the PA is reduced to 34.3 mW, which is 46.5 % lower than PA without the ANN. With the intelligent transmitter, wireless devices can save a large amount of energy in their operations.
