GiB: a Game theory Inspired Binarization technique for degraded document images
摘要: Document image binarization classi?es each pixel in an input document image as either foreground or background under the assumption that the document is pseudo binary in nature. However, noise introduced during acquisition or due to aging or handling of the document can make binarization a challenging task. This paper presents a novel game theory inspired binarization technique for degraded document images. A two-player, non-zero-sum, non-cooperative game is designed at the pixel level to extract the local information, which is then fed to a K-means algorithm to classify a pixel as foreground or background. We also present a preprocessing step that is performed to eliminate the intensity variation that often appears in the background and a post-processing step to re?ne the results. The method is tested on seven publicly available datasets, namely, DIBCO 2009-14 and 2016. The experimental results show that GiB (Game theory Inspired Binarization) outperforms competing state-of-the-art methods in most cases.

摘要: With the dense deployment of small cells in the next generation of mobile networks, the users from different tiers suffer from high downlink interferences. In this paper, we propose a game theoretic approach for joint co-tier and cross-tier collaboration in heterogeneous networks and analyze the relevance of the proposed scheme. First, we propose a coalition structure game with a weighted Owen value as imputation, where the small-cell base stations (SBSs) and their connecting macrocell user equipments (MUEs) form a priori union. We prove that the proposed framework optimizes the users profit. As an additional global benefit, the SBSs are encouraged to host the harmed public users in their vicinity. Second, we propose a canonical game with a weighted solidarity value as imputation to allow cooperation among SBSs and MUEs when they fail to connect to nearby SBSs. We prove that the weak players are protected in this scheme and that a high degree of fairness is provided in the game. We compare through extensive simulations the proposed frameworks with state-of-the-art resource allocation solutions, access modes, and legacy game-theoretic approaches. We show that the proposed framework obtains the best performances for the MUEs and small-cells user equipments in terms of throughput and fairness. Throughput gain is in order of 40% even reaching 50% for both types of users.

摘要: In open and dynamic multiagent systems (MASs), agents often need to rely on resources or services provided by other agents to accomplish their goals. During this process, agents are exposed to the risk of being exploited by others. These risks, if not mitigated, can cause serious breakdowns in the operation of MASs and threaten their long-term wellbeing. To protect agents from the uncertainty in the behavior of their interaction partners, the age-old mechanism of trust between human beings is re-contexted into MASs. The basic idea is to let agents self-police the MAS by rating each other on the basis of their observed behavior and basing future interaction decisions on such information. Over the past decade, a large number of trust management models were proposed. However, there is a lack of research effort in several key areas, which are critical to the success of trust management in MASs where human beings and agents coexist. The purpose of this paper is to give an overview of existing research in trust management in MASs. We analyze existing trust models from a game theoretic perspective to highlight the special implications of including human beings in an MAS, and propose a possible research agenda to advance the state of the art in this field.

Benefit-based cost allocation for residentially distributed photovoltaic systems in China: A cooperative game theory approach
摘要: Distributed photovoltaic (PV) systems have constantly been the key to achieve a low-carbon economy in China. However, the development of Chinese distributed PV systems has failed to meet expectations because of their irrational profit and cost allocations. In this study, the methodology for calculating the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) for PV is thoroughly discussed to address this issue. A mixed-integer linear programming model is built to determine the optimal system operation strategy with a benefit analysis. An externality-corrected mathematical model based on Shapley value is established to allocate the cost of distributed PV systems in 15 Chinese cities between the government, utility grid and residents. Results show that (i) an inverse relationship exists between the LCOEs and solar radiation levels; (ii) the government and residents gain extra benefits from the utility grid through net metering policies, and the utility grid should be the highly subsidized participant; (iii) the percentage of cost assigned to the utility grid and government should increase with the expansion of battery bank to weaken the impact of demand response on increasing theoretical subsidies; and (iv) apart from the LCOE, the local residential electricity prices remarkably impact the subsidy calculation results.

摘要: A dilemma in cloud radio access networks (C-RANs) is how to keep a balance between the performance and the ef?ciency of centralized processing. To solve this problem, the joint design of training-based channel estimation and cluster formation are studied in this paper. To provide ef?cient cooperation strategies in C-RANs, individual C-RAN clusters are formed by the remote radio heads (RRHs), and a data-assisted channel estimation scheme is studied, which can reduce the redundant cost of training sequences. To ensure the performance of channel estimation and data transmissions, the cluster formation and the channel estimation are optimized jointly. In particular, an iterative training-based channel estimation scheme is designed by using convex optimization and the Broyden–Fletcher–Goldfarb–Shanno algorithm jointly. Moreover, a utility function of cluster formation can be established based on the estimates and the mean squared error of our proposed channel estimation algorithm, and the cluster formation of RRHs can be formulated as a coalitional formation game. Furthermore, a sub-optimal algorithm is also proposed to reduce the computational complexity. Finally, the simulation results are shown to evaluate the performance of our proposed algorithms.

Catalyzing community-led solar development by enabling cooperative behavior: Insights from an experimental game in the United States
摘要: This work presents an empirically tested method to initiate community solar development by enabling cooperative behavior among groups of stakeholders. Shared solar represents only a fraction of distributed photovoltaic generation despite advantages over other distributed solar models. A framework that addresses the inherent characteristics of community solar would increase development. In this work, a non-cooperative game modeled stakeholders’ codependent decision between models of solar development, and it served as the control experiment with unfacilitated communication. An experimental “catalyst” for onboarding community solar tested the influence of facilitated cooperation on project development. In the experiment, stakeholders were engaged through demonstrated practices that lead to cooperative behavior. Interviews conducted with project leads from subsequent community-led solar projects qualitatively assessed the catalyst, and a cooperative game model measured the influence of the catalyst quantitatively. The control game revealed a rational agent preferred a low-utility independent-solar strategy to a higher-utility cooperative-solar strategy in the locale (20% difference in welfare). This result emphasized the need for an intra-active force (i.e., the proposed catalyst) to reach the most economically efficient outcomes. Efforts to facilitate cooperative behavior catalyzed two community-led solar projects in a locale previously void of community solar. The experimental catalyst was the dominant player for onboarding community solar, responsible for 53% of the effective onboarding in the region. Additionally, the catalyzed solar projects experienced an increase in onboarding effectiveness by a factor of two-to-three. The community solar catalyst can be applied in other locales to overcome barriers inhibiting shared solar development.

Self-emitting blue and red EuOX (X = F, Cl, Br, I) materials: band structure, charge transfer energy, and emission energy
摘要: For microgrids with renewable energy sources, the main goal is to optimize the energy usage in a particular area based on the prediction of energy consumption and production. However, prediction error cannot be evaded and it causes various problems to operate microgrid system. To solve these problems, we are going to propose two-stage energy operation model in a local microgrid system. In addition, by applying cooperative game theory with the Shapley-value algorithm, revenue and payment are determined in real-time period based on the actual contribution of individual prosumer. Numerical anaylsis shows that our suggested approach can reduce peak load more than 16% and reduce the total charge over 5% compared with the case of non-cooperative energy market.
