  • Coordinated control of MPPT and voltage regulation using single-stage high gain DC–DC converter in a grid-connected PV system

    摘要: In general, grid-connected PV system uses two stages of DC-DC converter to accomplish Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) and DC voltage regulation. In order to overcome the two stage conversion, a single stage high gain DC-DC converter is presented in this paper. The operation of three switches with two different duty ratio is the main advantage of this converter to accomplish the coordinated control of MPPT and DC voltage regulation. This coordinated control also helps to provide constant DC voltage to the DC loads though the inverter is disconnected from the DC bus. A 1KW grid-connected PV system with the proposed DC-DC converter is developed and is validated using OP4500 Real-Time test platform. In addition, a decoupled control strategy with fractional order proportional-integral (FOPI) controller is implemented at the inverter end. Also, the reactive power compensation, harmonic reduction (less than 5% as per the IEEE 519 standard) and the grid power factor close to unity is obtained and the results are validated using the real-time simulator.

  • A high gain miniaturised patch antenna with an epsilon near zero superstrate

    摘要: In this paper, a miniaturized patch antenna (MPA) with Zero Index Metamaterial (ZIM) as Superstrate at 518MHz is designed and fabricated. The proposed method is utilized for retrieving the effective properties, i.e., impedance, refractive index, as well as the permittivity, and permeability of the unit cell. We have investigated the effect of distance between the antenna and the Superstrate on performance of the antenna. Moreover, the performance of the antenna is evaluated by both simulations and measurements. The results of our study have shown more directional and higher gain patch antennas. Also, a good agreement between the measured and the simulation values is found. It is demonstrated that the gain of antenna, having the ZIM Superstrate, is much higher compared to the one without the ZIM superstrate. Furthermore, the mean value of the gain for the proposed Metamaterial antenna (which is Superstrate-based) is considerably improved from -1.9 to 3.97 dBi comparing to the patch antenna alone. In fact, the directivity of the antenna is dramatically improved based on the zero refraction properties of the Metamaterial.

  • Novel High Gain, High Efficiency DC–DC Converter Suitable for Solar PV Module Integration With Three-Phase Grid Tied Inverters

    摘要: This paper proposes a novel configuration for high gain, high efficiency dc–dc converter comprising a single switch, two intermediate capacitors, and a coupled inductor for low voltage solar PV module fed applications. The high voltage gain is achieved by charging the intermediate capacitors through the coupled inductor in parallel and discharging in series. In a two winding coupled inductor, considered in the presented work, maximum two intermediate capacitors can be integrated with the secondary winding. A passive lossless clamped circuit is also provided in the converter, which recovers the leakage energy to improve the efficiency and alleviate large voltage spike. The structure of the circuit is such that the power device voltage stress is reduced thereby increasing the efficiency. The maximum power point tracking at various irradiation levels is implemented in the proposed converter. Laboratory prototype of a 300-W system with 30–45-V input and 700-V output was built to validate the theoretical claims. All the detailed analysis, simulation, and experimental waveforms are presented. A maximum converter efficiency of around 95% is achieved.

  • A Low-Profile and High-Gain CP Patch Antenna with Improved AR Bandwidth via Perturbed Ring Resonator

    摘要: A low-profile circularly-polarized (CP) patch antenna with improved axial ratio (AR) bandwidth and high gain is proposed in this letter. The antenna consists of a pin-loaded patch and a probe-fed ring resonator beneath the patch radiator. On the one hand, the radiative patch dominates the radiation, and the loading of shorting pins facilitates its high gain due to enlarged radiating area at resonance. On the other hand, the ring resonator with perturbation produces two additional split degenerate modes, which not only widen the bandwidth of magnitude, but also generate the required quadrature phase shift for CP radiation. The working mechanism is presented with an equivalent circuit model, allowing us to easily demonstrate how the ring resonator and patch radiator work together to effectively widen AR bandwidth. With the proposed method, stable high gain of about 11 dBic has been realized over an AR bandwidth of 6% for a single-fed CP patch antenna with profile of 0.05λ0 at 2.33 GHz.

    摘要: In this paper a new topology of current control technique is proposed, to transfer the improved quality of power produced from the solar plant to the utility grid. Also, a high-gain high-efficient converter driving with Kalman MPPT is used to boost the low voltage levels of the PV array. The proposed control uses recurrent neural network RNN-Hebbian -LMS based current controller to achieve the better performance in terms of power quality. The RNN network uses feedback signals to control the current flow from solar plant to the utility grid. The Hebbian - LMS (least mean square) algorithm is used to update the weights of the RNN based current controller. The main advantage of the RNN-Hebbian-LMS current control technique is to maintain the constant voltage. Besides, it also provides system stability over wide range of parameter variations and damp out the oscillations quickly. The proposed algorithm is able to overcome the stability and sensitivity problems incurred with the conventional PI current controller. The simulation results will be compared with the conventional PI and proposed RNN-Hebbiab-LMS current controllers. Finally, the proposed current controller shows the improved power quality, quick settling time and more stable comparing with the conventional controllers.

  • Low-profile wideband Fabry-Perot resonator antenna using artificial magnetic conductor surface

    摘要: A low-profile, high gain Fabry-Perot Resonator antenna with a wide operation bandwidth (BW) is presented in this paper. The proposed design consists of an ellipse-shaped dipole as a wideband radiating source, which is reflected by an artificial magnetic conductor ground plane to achieve low-profile structure. The antenna gain can be significantly enhanced by the use of a half-wavelength-thick dielectric slab as a partial reflecting surface. Additionally, this dielectric slab also contributes to improving the radiation pattern characteristics of the proposed design, especially in the high frequency region. A final prototype with an overall size of 1.2λL × 1.2λL × 0.4λL (λL is free-space wavelength at the lowest frequency of 3-dB gain BW) has been fabricated to validate the concept. The measured results show that the proposed antenna yielded a wide 3-dB gain BW of approximately 50.3% with a peak gain of 14 dBi and impedance matching BW of 48.9%.

    摘要: This paper proposes a power optimized based converter and its control for low voltage solar photovoltaic (PV) modules. For the grid tied solar PV system, the dc-bus voltage must be maintained more than a minimum level for its satisfactory working. In optimized architecture, each PV module is connected with a non isolated high gain DC-DC converter. These converters boost up the PV voltage as well as harvest the maximum solar energy. In the case of shadow, aging and fast change in solar insolation profile on each PV modules; it is able to harvest the maximum power. For maximum power harvesting, fuzzy logic control (FLC) is used. Each PV module with high gain DC-DC converter is connected at the common DC link. The DC power is converted into AC power by using voltage source Inverter (VSI). The VSC is controlled to stabilize dc-link voltage, synchronize with grid supply and to achieve low total harmonic distortion (THDs) in grid current under feeding non linear loads. For switching of a VSC, hysteresis control is used. Proposed model is developed using MATLAB 2015a and results are obtained under various operating conditions.

  • A metasurfacea??enabled wideband higha??gain duala??circularlya??polarized Fabrya??Perot resonator antenna

    摘要: This paper presents a wideband high-gain dual-circularly-polarized (CP) antenna with a simple configuration. Instead of improving the gain using the dual-CP element array, the Fabry-Perot resonator antenna concept is applied in this work. By designing a dual-linearly-polarized Fabry-Perot resonator antenna and a linear-to-circular polarization (LP-CP) metasurface polarizer separately and combining them, a wideband high-gain dual-CP antenna can be achieved. Structural simplicity and less design difficulty are advantages of the antenna design. Experimental results validate the design concept. It exhibits 3-dB axial-ratio bandwidths of over 12% for both LHCP and RHCP performance, a high polarization isolation of over 25 dB, and peak gains of 12.78 dBi and 12.89 dBi for LHCP and RHCP radiations respectively.

  • Ultrawideband Low-Profile and Miniaturized Spoof Plasmonic Vivaldi Antenna for Base Station

    摘要: Stable radiation pattern, high gain, and miniaturization are necessary for the ultra-wideband antennas in the 2G/3G/4G/5G base station applications. Here, an ultrawideband and miniaturized spoof plasmonic antipodal Vivaldi antenna (AVA) is proposed, which is composed of the AVA and the loaded periodic grooves. The designed operating frequency band is from 1.8 GHz to 6 GHz, and the average gain is 7.24 dBi. Furthermore, the measured results show that the radiation patterns of the plasmonic AVA are stable. The measured results are in good agreement with the simulation results.

    摘要: A technique is presented to design dual-band, high-gain metamaterial based resonant cavity antenna using frequency selective surface (FSS) layer. The radiating dielectric resonator (DR) is connected by a microstrip line and a rectangular slot is cut from the ground surface. Cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) is used as an elementary radiator. CDRA is excited by the microstrip line through the rectangular slot and it is radiating in the broadside direction at two adjacent frequency bands (S and C bands). Antenna simulation results confirmed it resonates in two adjacent bands centered at 3.9 GHz and 7.1 GHz. The gain of the DRA at these two bands are 2.43 dBi and 4.32 dBi respectively. With a single layer 5 X 5 array superstrate the gain of the proposed antenna increased by 8.02 dBi from 3.6 to 4.1 GHz frequency band and 1.05 dBi from 6.7 to 7.5 GHz frequency band. This high-gain dual-band DRA can be used for millimeter wave wireless communication, small satellite communication terminals.
