  • Plasmonics || Plasmonic Modes in Au and AuAg Nanowires and Nanowire Dimers Studied by Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy

    摘要: In this chapter, we review our recent work on the investigation of surface plasmon modes in metallic nanowires and nanowire dimers by means of electron energy loss spectroscopy combined with scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM-EELS). Due to the very high spatial resolution, STEM-EELS is a powerful technique to visualize multipole order surface plasmon modes in nanowires and study the dependency of their resonance energies on different parameters such as nanowire dimensions or nanowire porosity. In addition, we investigate surface plasmon hybridization in nanowires separated by gaps of less than 10 nm or connected by small metallic bridges. In such structures new modes arise, which depend strongly on gap or bridge sizes. Experimental results are supported by finite element simulations. The investigated nanowires and dimers are fabricated by electrodeposition in etched ion-track templates, combined with a selective dissolution processes. The synthesis techniques and their advantages for the fabrication of plasmonic nanostructures are also discussed.

  • Photocatalytically active filtration systems based on modified with titanium dioxide PET-membranes

    摘要: Photocatalytically active nanostructured filtration systems are formed by two-step hydrolysis of titanium dioxide on the surface of polyethylene terephthalate ion-track membranes. Characterization of the morphological and structural properties of the nanosized TiO2 deposit obtained under various conditions on the surface of ion-track membranes is carried out, and the correlation of the TiO2 parameters with the synthesis conditions is established. The absorption spectra of the obtained systems were measured. Methods of the enhancing the operating wavelength range to increase the efficiency of potential application of photocatalytically active nanostructured TiO2 systems under the influence of sunlight are discussed.

    摘要: Nanostructures research plays a crucial role in the transformation of breakthrough scientific ideas into next-generation technology. In the way that silicon revolutionized the microelectronics industry, plasmonic nanostructures can greatly impact on the field of analytical instruments for molecular analysis of materials, even biological objects. Currently, research in the plasmonics has been faced the problem of choosing the optimal plasmonic nanostructures in order to realize useful devices. Usually, metal components such as gold, silver and copper serve for working elements of plasmon-active surfaces, which have a number of advantages in comparison with other materials. However, on the stage of devises design, the choice even between three different metals causes great difficulties. In order to take the first steps to solve this problem, here we consider the criteria for plasmon-active metals choice, and also give examples of Au, Ag, and Cu nanostructures obtained by the controlled self-assembly in limited pore volume of the SiO2/Si template for SERS applications.
