  • Method for Measuring Laser Frequency Noise

    摘要: We have analyzed the characteristic features and problems in the major approaches to measurement of laser frequency noise. We propose a method in which we use an unbalanced fiber-optic interferometer, generation at the optical system output of a signal for a subcarrier of the frequency, phase-modulated by fluctuations in the laser frequency, and measurement of the spectrum for this signal. The proposed approach is distinguished by relative simplicity and accessibility, and does not require using uncommon specialized instruments and complicated specific procedures.

  • High-Speed Transmission Circuits Signaling in Optical Communication Systems

    摘要: This paper has outlined high-speed transmission circuits signaling in guided or unguided optical communication systems. An efficient prediction scheme to predict the signal distortion caused by intersymbol interference. As high-speed digital signals exceed many gigabits per second speeds, eye diagrams provide the means to quickly and accurately measure signal quality and system performance. Semiconductor understands the capacitance constraints that designers are faced with when using these high-speed interfaces and offers a wide line of ultra-low capacitance electrical spectral density protection devices that service these interfaces, and the noise can be reduced at the optimum circuit at both bandwidths of 167 MHz, and bandwidth of 200 MHz.

  • Noise-Like Pulse Generation Using Polarization Maintaining Mode-Locked Thulium-Doped Fiber Laser With Nonlinear Amplifying Loop Mirror

    摘要: We investigate noise-like pulse (NLP) generation in a mode-locked thulium-doped fiber laser with nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (NALM) and different net anomalous dispersions. The all-polarization maintaining (PM) fiber oscillator generates pulse trains with a frequency adjustable in the range of 4.06–20.4 MHz by utilizing different lengths of PM passive fiber in the NALM loop. An NLP with a coherence spike width of 232 fs was generated at 1993.6 nm with a 3-dB spectral width of 32.6 nm when the net cavity dispersion was ?0.711 ps2.

  • Dynamics of InAs/GaAs quantum dot lasers epitaxially grown on Ge or Si substrate

    摘要: Growing semiconductor laser sources on silicon is a crucial but challenging technology for developing photonic integrated circuits (PICs). InAs/GaAs quantum dot (Qdot) lasers have successfully circumvented the mismatch problem between III–V materials and Ge or Si, and have demonstrated efficient laser emission. In this paper, we review dynamical characteristics of Qdot lasers epitaxially grown on Ge or Si, in comparison with those of Qdot lasers on native GaAs substrate. We discuss properties of linewidth broadening factor, laser noise and its sensitivity to optical feedback, intensity modulation, as well as mode locking operation. The investigation of these dynamical characteristics is beneficial for guiding the design of PICs in optical communications and optical computations.

  • The Impact of Local Oscillator Frequency Jitter and Laser Linewidth to Ultra High Baud Rate Coherent Systems

    摘要: Through theoretical analysis and simulation, we investigate the system impact due to a sinusoidal jitter tone and the resultant local oscillator (LO) laser linewidth requirement in ultra-high baud rate and long distance coherent optical systems. We also carried out experiments in 64Gbaud, dual-polarization (DP)-16QAM systems to verify the theoretical analysis and simulation. We have also obtained a jitter interference tolerance mask to qualify LO lasers. A jitter tone with a frequency lower than ~1MHz has a higher tolerance since it generally causes constant frequency or phase shift, which can be tracked by a receiver DSP. For a jitter tone with a frequency higher than ~1MHz, the tolerance becomes much tighter since the tone will affect laser lineshape and induce equalizer-enhanced phase noise (EEPN). Consequently, a jitter tone in the higher frequency region could severely affect the system performance. Theoretical analysis and numerical result illustrate that EVM2 due to the effect of laser linewidth and a sinusoidal jitter tone is proportional to the weighted sum of [Δν × Bs × L] and [Δfpp×Bs × L]2, where Δν is the laser linewidth, Bs is the baud rate, Δfpp is the laser peak-to-peak frequency deviation due to a sinusoidal jitter tone, and L is the fiber transmission length. This result is applicable for all orders of QAM constellations. The implication to future 100 Gbaud and beyond systems is delineated.

  • Research on noise suppression of lithium battery electrode measurement based on laser micro-displacement sensor

    摘要: The joint denoising method using multi-scale wavelet based on threshold value judgment and recursive least-squares (RLS) were proposed to realize lithium battery film thickness measurement. Continuous thickness measurement of thin film coating can be done via threshold value judgment. Low-frequency noise component similar to characters of film thickness can be reduced via RLS denoising. Joint denoising can further improve measurement accuracy. Compared with multi-scale wavelet denoising, the method proposed can improve the measurement precision by 6% which is more suitable to the thickness measurement of film coating.
