  • A Novel Spline Model Guided Maximum Power Point Tracking Method for Photovoltaic Systems

    摘要: This paper develops a novel data-driven maximum power point tracking (MPPT) method, which is of two-fold, to benefit the power generation of photovoltaics (PV) systems facing variable partial shading conditions (PSCs). Under each PSC, the proposed MPPT utilizes a compact data-driven modelling process to develop the power-voltage (P-V) curve model via the natural cubic spline. Next, the proposed MPPT method develops a novel natural cubic spline guided iterative search process to update the P-V curve model having multiple peaks and to promptly obtain the global maximum power point (GMPP) under the considered PSC. This is a pioneer study which discusses a GMPPT algorithm using a natural cubic spline based P-V curve model. The convergence of the MPP tracked by the proposed algorithm to the GMPP is theoretically ensured by the property of the natural cubic spline. The effectiveness and robustness of the proposed algorithm have been comprehensively evaluated via extensive simulation studies and experiments. Computational results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is more efficient and effective to attain GMPPs under variable PSCs by comparing with recent MPPT methods using heuristic techniques, which are easily trapped into local MPP under variable PSCs.

    摘要: In this paper, five Maximum Power Point Tracking algorithms for PV system are presented, simulated and discussed. Solar Photovoltaic energy has become a popular device of the renewable energies. The power-voltage (P-V) characteristic of PV cells is naturally nonlinear dependent of insolation and temperature degrees. Accordingly, the maximum power point change with the atmospheric conditions. In order to ameliorate the overall efficiency, a control technique for the duty cycle of the DC/DC power converter is required. The aim of this paper is to present a thorough assessment of various MPPT techniques. Five different methods are discussed which are: the Perturbation-Observation (P&O) method, the Incremental Conductance (INC) method, the Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC), the Neural Network control (NNC) and the Sliding mode control (SMC). These algorithms are modeled and simulated with a specific PV chain consisting of a 50W PV panel and a Boost converter in order to evaluate their performances.

  • Suppression strategy of short-term and long-term environmental disturbances for maritime photovoltaic system

    摘要: The maritime photovoltaic system is easily affected by the special environmental disturbances from the ship and the sea, e.g., the partial and dynamic shadings when moved with a ship, the corrosion of photovoltaic module when continuously worked in high salinity oceanic environment. In this study, the optimal configuration of photovoltaic array installed on large ocean-going ship is developed, and a novel offline/online hybrid maximum power point tracking method is presented to suppress the short-term disturbance caused by the partial and dynamic shadings. Then, in order to dynamically track the corrosion of photovoltaic module and suppress the long-term disturbance, the dynamic knowledge-base with time-window is developed. Finally, the proposed methodology is verified by simulation experiments. Experimental results show that in the proposed configuration, location of the maximum power point is closely related to the area and degree of the shading, but is irrelevant to the distribution. Moreover, according to the experimental results, the operation data in the nearest 3 months to 1 year can be collected and employed to train the offline model, in order to obtain the best control performance. With the proposed configuration and control methodology, the environmental disturbances can be efficiently suppressed, the evaluated system can also obtain efficient and robust control performance under complex maritime environment.

  • Developed and STM implementation of modified P&O MPPT technique for a PV system over sun

    摘要: The non-linearity of photovoltaic systems and the change in maximum power point with a level of insolation and temperature complicates the tracking of the maximum power point. Several maximum power point tracker methods have been proposed and implemented in literature. The paper studies a modified perturb and observe (P&O) approach for a photovoltaic system in order to extract the maximum power point with more precision, fast speed and avoid the problems caused by the classic P&O method under the change of climatic conditions. This work is tested with a resistive load powered by a photovoltaic generator via a DC/DC converter. These methods are implemented with STM32F4 microcontroller running environment MATLAB/SIMULINK, using a computer incorporating a card DS1104 for visualization. The simulations and experimental results show that the proposed algorithm offers a fast response with smaller stationary oscillations compared to conventional methods.

    摘要: Maximum power point tracking MPPT techniques are a crucial part in photovoltaic PV system design to maximise the output power of a PV array which depends on weather conditions. Although several techniques have been developed, Perturb and Observe P&O is widely used for MPPT due to its low cost and simple implementation. However, the main drawbacks of this method are a low converging time, high oscillation around the maximum power point, and drift problem associated with changing irradiance rapidly. In this paper, a modified P&O-MPPT based on Pythagorean theorem and constant voltage CV-MPPT is presented. To assess this modification, conventional and modified P&O methods are simulated by a MATLAB-SIMULINK. Simulation results demonstrate that the modified P&O-MPTT has a highly effective to solve the problem of conventional P&O-MPPT.

    摘要: In order to improve the stability and economy of roof photovoltaic system. The frequency distribution of photovoltaic power can be obtained by using Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT), and a boundary frequency algorithm is proposed to determine the frequency of photovoltaic power generation. Then, the roof photovoltaic-hybrid energy storage control model based on household load is constructed, and the model is solved by LINGO software. Data analysis and comparison show that under the condition of full life cycle and real time price of photovoltaic power generation, user economy is superior to that of fixed price condition. The effectiveness of the proposed model coordination control strategy is verified by the user’s economy.

    摘要: The PV panels have become a ubiquitous renewable resource as it produces clean energy and needs less maintenance. However, in changing environmental conditions less power output is generated. The operating point shifts from the maximum power point (MPP) to some other point. The MPP Tracking (MPPT) controller is designed for the panels to track the changing irradiance and maintain operating point at MPP. The MPPT controller uses an algorithm which generates a dynamic duty ratio for the dc-dc converter. MATLAB simulation of the MPPT PV system using perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm is shown in this paper. In the simulation model, irradiance changes are considered while the temperature remains unchanged. A comparison between non-MPPT and MPPT output is analysed. The result verifies that MPPT algorithm boosts the efficiency of the system in changing climatic conditions and performs better than the non-MPPT system.

  • A hybrid intelligent GMPPT algorithm for partial shading PV system

    摘要: Maximum power extraction for PV systems under partial shading conditions (PSCs) relies on the optimal global maximum power point tracking (GMPPT) method used. This paper proposes a novel maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control method for PV system with reduced steady-state oscillation based on improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm and variable step perturb and observe (P&O) method. Firstly, the grouping idea of shuffled frog leaping algorithm (SFLA) is introduced in the basic PSO algorithm (PSO–SFLA), ensuring the differences among particles and the searching of global extremum. Furthermore, adaptive speed factor is introduced into the improved PSO to improve the convergence of the PSO–SFLA under PSCs. And then, the variable step P&O (VSP&O) method is used to track the maximum power point (MPP) accurately with the change of environment. Finally, the superiority of the proposed method over the conventional P&O method and the standard PSO method in terms of tracking speed and steady-state oscillations is highlighted by simulation results under fast variable PSCs.

  • A Multifunctional Single Phase Grid Integrated Residential Solar PV Systems based on LQR Control

    摘要: This paper presents a multifunctional single-stage residential photovoltaic power supply based on Linear Quadratic Regulator. The system makes use of a single phase power converter connected to the grid through an LCL filter. A robust LQRI controller is designed to incorporate added functions such as power line conditioner, active power regulator, and voltage stabilizer. The perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm is used to generate the reference signal for the fluctuating DC bus voltage as well as to extract the maximum power from the solar panels. Full modeling of the converter in the D-Q reference frame is presented. A Linear Quadratic Regulator with added Integral action (LQRI) is designed to achieve optimal multi-functionality operation of the residential power supply. Simulation and experimental results confirm the expected performance of the proposed controller for insolation and load variations.

  • Combined Tracking of the Maximum Power and Maximum Efficiency Operating Points for Real-Time Maximization of the Energy Production of PV Systems

    摘要: The power production of a PV system can be maximized by applying a global MPPT method for ensuring that the PV array operates at the global MPP where its power production is maximized and, simultaneously, by dynamically maximizing the efficiency of the power converter that interfaces the PV-generated energy to the energy storage devices or the electric grid. In this paper, a new control method has been presented for the real-time maximization of the power production of PV systems by modifying in real-time the duty cycle and switching frequency of the power converter PWM control signal. The proposed method has the advantage that it can be applied in PV systems operating under partial shading conditions. Also, knowledge of either the operational characteristics and configuration of the PV modules within the PV array, or the power converter operational characteristics, is not required for its application. The experimental results validated that, by using the proposed method, the power production of the PV system is increased significantly compared to the case that only the power production of the PV array is maximized by using a global MPPT technique without tracking the optimal value of the power converter efficiency.
