  • Graphdiyne for Ultrashort Pulse Generation in an Erbium-Doped Hybrid Mode-Locked Fiber Laser

    摘要: An erbium-doped hybrid passively mode-locked ?ber laser based on few-layer graphdiyne (GDY) saturable absorber (SA) has been investigated for the ?rst time. Hybrid mode-locked ?ber laser is composed of non-linear polarization rotation (NPR) technology and GDY-SA. The central wavelength, pulse width and repetition rate of the output pulse are 1530.7 nm, 690.2 fs and 14.7 MHz, respectively. Compared with the passively mode-locked pulse laser with GDY-SA or NPR technology alone, the output pulse width of hybrid passively mode-locked ?ber laser is reduced more than 50 fs. It is demonstrated that the performance of GDY can be potentially applied in ultrafast laser.

  • Dissipative soliton generation in Er-doped fibre laser using SnS <sub/>2</sub> as a saturable absorber

    摘要: Dissipative soliton generation is successfully demonstrated in an Erbium-doped mode-locked fibre laser using Tin Disulfide (SnS2) as a saturable absorber in the near-zero dispersion regime. A stable dissipative soliton pulse train operating at a wavelength of 1560 nm is successfully obtained with a 32 nm FWHM power. The 152 fs pulses were produced using 0.48 nJ of pulse energy in the all-fibre laser cavity following compression in a single-mode fibre.

    摘要: A mode-locked fiber laser based on ZnO nanoparticles as a saturable absorber is developed. ZnO nanoparticles deposited on a side-polished fiber function as a proper saturable absorber in the near infrared range. Mode-locking of pulses is verified through the Fourier transform analysis which characterizes the longitudinal modes of ring cavity. Stable optical pulses of less than 1-ns (resolution-limited) pulse-width are generated at 1064 nm.

    摘要: Monolithic passively mode-locked (PML) semiconductor lasers emitting at 1070 nm are promising ultra-fast sources for new prospective photonic transport systems in a 1 μm transmission window waveband [1,2]. As residual optical feedback (OFB) can deteriorate the emitted optical pulse trains, experimental studies exploring the immunity of the laser against perturbations by unintentional OFB with nanometric precision are demanded, but however yet lacking. We study experimentally the impact of sub-wavelength scale fine-delay controlled short-cavity OFB on the optical spectra, repetition rate (RR) and average optical output power of a monolithic PML semiconductor quantum-well (QW) laser. The laser emits picosecond short optical pulses at 1070 nm with a free-running RR of 13.6 GHz corresponding to an internal pulse round-trip time of 75 ps. A similar device has been investigated in [2]. OFB is provided by a free-space external cavity exhibiting a macroscopic delay length Tmac ranging from 145 ps up to 275 ps round-trip time. A wedged glass on a high-precision linear translation stage provides delay with nanometric precision. We first study the optical pulsed emission in dependence of changing Tmac from 145 ps to 275 ps. The color-coded measured nonlinear auto-correlation (AC) signals and RRs are depicted in Fig. 1(a) and Fig. 1(b), respectively.

  • High-Power Large-Energy Rectangular Mode-Locked Er-Doped Fiber Laser Based on High-Damage-Threshold MoS <sub/>2</sub> Saturable Absorber

    摘要: In our work, based on chemical vapor deposition method and a newly designed glass–material–glass sandwich structure, MoS2 saturable absorber (SA) with a damage threshold of higher than 0.26 J/cm2 was fabricated and employed for demonstrating high-power, large-energy rectangular mode-locked Er-doped laser operation. Stable mode-locked operation with maximum output power of 122.77 mW and largest pulse energy of 130.49 nJ were successively achieved along with power scaling process. In comparison with previous works, our results show remarkable breakthroughs both in the aspects of average output power and pulse energy. Our experimental design and results will open a new avenue for generating high-power, large-energy mode-locked ?ber lasers based on two-dimensional materials as SAs.

  • Switchable Generation of Multipulse Patterns of Noise-Like Pulse and Dissipative Soliton Resonance in a Fiber Laser

    摘要: We report on the switchable generation of versatile patterns of multiple noise-like pulse (NLP) and dissipative soliton resonance (DSR) pulses in a dual-pump figure-eight mode-locked fiber laser. Benefiting from the change of saturation power influenced by pump power intercoupling, harmonic DSR pulses, dual-pulse DSR, dual-pulse and tri-pulse NLP are formed depending on different pump power combinations and intra-cavity polarization states. We find that the NLP pulse profile can turn from h-shape to triangular-shape after splitting. The dual-wavelength spectrum of the pulse, consisting of an obvious stokes line, can tune its center from 1075 to 1097 nm. This type of fiber laser may be helpful for further in-depth study on the underlying dynamics of multiple NLP and DSR pulses.

  • High energy noise-like pulse generation from a mode-locked thulium-doped fiber laser at 1.7-μm

    摘要: Thulium-doped fiber laser (TDFL) is a versatile platform that can be engineered to produce laser sources with desired performance that target a vast number of applications, however its operation in the 1.7-μm region is still underdeveloped owing to the quasi-three-level nature of TDF emission. In this paper, we report a high energy noise-like pulse generation from a nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) mode-locked TDFL. By using highly efficient core-pumping at 1650 nm and intra-cavity filtering component, stable mode-locking operation at 1750 nm is realized at a pump threshold of 1.5 W. With increasing the pump power to 5 W, the pulse width is stretched from 0.8 ns to 3.7 ns, while the monitored output power is linearly increased from 50 mW to 251 mW, corresponding to a maximum pulse energy of 321 nJ at the pulse repetition rate of 782 kHz. The long-term and shot-to-shot stability of the output are characterized to be 0.11 dB and 2.8% respectively. Noise-like pulse operation of the laser is confirmed by measuring the autocorrelation trace, which demonstrates a coherent peak on top of a wide pedestal. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of high energy noise-like pulse generation from a TDFL at 1.7-μm band, enabling potential applications in for example spectroscopic analysis and material processing.

  • Soliton Molecules in Self-Mode-Locked Ring-Cavity Er/Yb Double-Clad Fiber Laser

    摘要: In this paper, generation of soliton molecules by a self-mode-locked Er/Yb double clad fiber laser is experimentally demonstrated. The optical spectrum of the bound solitons exhibits eight well defined peaks at ~1563 nm with high modulation depth. The corresponding autocorrelation measurement shows a fundamental trace with several narrow peaks, suggesting the presence of bound solitons. The obtained results demonstrate the reliability of our simple laser configuration for the formation of more robust soliton molecules as the pump power is increased. The soliton molecules exhibit repetition rate of 19.54 MHz and average power of 1.2 W, achieved with a pump power of ~4.8 W.

  • Noise-Like Pulse Generation Using Polarization Maintaining Mode-Locked Thulium-Doped Fiber Laser With Nonlinear Amplifying Loop Mirror

    摘要: We investigate noise-like pulse (NLP) generation in a mode-locked thulium-doped fiber laser with nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (NALM) and different net anomalous dispersions. The all-polarization maintaining (PM) fiber oscillator generates pulse trains with a frequency adjustable in the range of 4.06–20.4 MHz by utilizing different lengths of PM passive fiber in the NALM loop. An NLP with a coherence spike width of 232 fs was generated at 1993.6 nm with a 3-dB spectral width of 32.6 nm when the net cavity dispersion was ?0.711 ps2.

  • All-Fiber Dual-Wavelength Mode-Locked Laser Using a Bend-Induced-Birefringence Lyot-Filter as Gain-Tilt Equalizer

    摘要: Multi-wavelength ?ber lasers have emerged as a promising light source for the application in wavelength division multiplexing communication, terahertz wave generation and optical sensing due to high ef?ciency and robustness. Lyot-?lter emerges as a potential device for multi-wavelength generation application. However, because of the high birefringence of polarization maintaining ?ber in Lyot-?lter, it is dif?cult to generate broadband dual-wavelength or multi-wavelength mode-locked ?ber laser by using common Lyot-?lter. In this paper, for the ?rst time, we propose an idea of using the low birefringence induced by bending the single-mode ?ber to form a Lyot-?lter for dual-wavelength mode-locked ?ber laser generation. The dual-wavelength output centers at 1532 and 1556 nm and it may simplify the set-up for dual-wavelength mode-locked laser.
