  • Assessing the Effect of Incentive Policies on Residential PV Investments in Colombia

    摘要: As the cost of solar photovoltaic (PV) falls, their potential for transforming modern electricity generation increases. Solar PV provides a simpler way of producing clean and affordable energy, which makes it an attractive investment. Great investments in solar PV have occurred in industrialized countries, but government efforts to promote this technology have not been effective in nonindustrialized countries. Despite this, some of these countries may have a high solar PV potential, such as Colombia, where policies to encourage solar PV are only just starting to take place. Therefore, this paper proposes a simulation model to assess different policies—feed-in tariff, net metering, and capital subsidy—to promote solar PV investments in the Colombian residential sector. Policies are assessed considering the criteria of efficiency and effectiveness. Simulation results suggest that (i) net metering is the most efficient policy with a cost indicator of 20,298 USD/MW; (ii) feed-in tariff is the most effective policy as it reaches the highest level of avoided CO2 emissions—4,792,823 million tons of CO2—and a meaningful PV installed capacity of 7522 MW; (iii) capital subsidy is the least efficient policy as it has the highest cost indicator of 509,616 USD/MW.

  • Assessing the effectiveness of Chinaa??s net-metering subsidies for household distributed photovoltaic systems

    摘要: Consumer incentives play a vital role in promoting the adoption of renewable energy technology. In China, the government implemented a single, nation-wide net-metering subsidy to cultivate the distributed photovoltaic electricity generation market in 2013 and then had to reduce it twice due to the falling cost of photovoltaic modules and the large resultant financial gap. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether these subsidy adjustments were accurate, and also to identify the factors affecting the subsidy design. We applied a techno-economic evaluation to examine the actual market performance of China’s household distributed photovoltaic system in five typical cities with different levels of solar radiation and electricity consumption patterns, and then investigated the subsidy policy’s effectiveness through a cost-benefit analysis. The results show that a 3e7 kW photovoltaic capacity in different regions of solar radiation can meet the residential electricity demand. We found that the examination of net-metering effectiveness should consider both regional difference in solar radiation and the different levels of electricity demand. Additionally, the cost-benefit analysis also indicated that a reasonable, regionally differentiated metering subsidy should be in the range of 0.05e0.27 yuan/kWh.

    摘要: The penetration of renewable energy technologies causes grid stability problems and voltage flickering due to fluctuations of the weather conditions, which affect the produced renewable power. The system is first analyzed in order to define the operating point and the controlling parameters, in which the produced power is shared correctly between the load and the grid at a power factor close to unity. The operating point is set by the duty cycle (D) of the DC–DC converter, the depth of modulation (Dm) of the inverter, and the phase angle (δ) between the output voltage of the inverter and the grid voltage. The simulated system is operated in an open-loop mode in order to investigate the effect of each parameter without the corrective action of the closed-loops of the MPPT and the load angle. After that, a preliminary investigation of a supercapacitor controlled storage application is performed in terms of the power flow. All calculated theoretical results are verified by the simulation in-depth results. This research investigation of supercapacitor and battery storage in grid- connected systems.

  • Impact of compensation mechanisms for PV generation on residential consumers and shared net metering model for developing nations: a case study of India

    摘要: The present work examines the impact on consumer electricity bills under five different cases designed on different compensation mechanisms to evaluate PV generation units for 120 residential consumers in Kharagpur, West Bengal, for assessing the pertinence of energy policy to be introduced for encouraging rooftop PV in India. The consumers are categorized based on their lifestyles. It is found that lower the size of the panel, lower is the savings leading to a decrease in the attractiveness of a rooftop PV system for a residential consumer. Also, the compensation mechanism and injection tariff play a crucial role in making a rooftop PV system feasible for a residential consumer. It is observed that the achieved savings of a consumer is a function of compensation mechanism and seasonal load pattern of a consumer. A shared distributed net metering model is proposed as an alternative to the individual rooftop PV systems, to mitigate the issues related to shading, land and financial feasibility of a PV system for small residential consumers. The results of the simulation analysis based on the model indicate a high positive net present value and an acceptable payback period, which makes the model feasible. The proposed model is found to be more scalable and economically viable for a developing nation like India. Net metering policy, being in its nascent stage in India, needs to be revisited to incorporate innovative tools and mechanisms to deliver the goods to the large section of the population.

  • Performance evaluation of 12?kW <sub/>P</sub> rooftop grid-connected photovoltaic plant installed under net metering in Delhi, India

    摘要: This paper presents the performance analysis of 12 kWP rooftop grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) plant installed under net metering Regulation of State Electricity Regulatory Commission in Delhi, India. The analysis is based on the evaluation of various performance parameters such as monthly average reference, array and final yield of PV plant. The highest values of monthly average reference, array and final yield of 4.67, 4.15, and 4.06 h/d, respectively, were recorded for the duration of the analysis. The total annual energy generation for the place is 1147 kWh/kWp. This computes to 13.1% annual average utilisation capacity of the plant. Additionally, the performance ratio of Delhi is observed to be the highest (between 85 and 93%) among other existing PV plant locations.

  • Economic Assessment of Solar Photovoltaics Use in Agricultural Greenhouses in Greece

    摘要: Modern greenhouses can utilize renewable energy sources for covering their energy requirements and reducing their carbon footprint. Solar photovoltaics use for power generation is currently a reliable and cost-effective technology which is used in many applications. The purpose of the current work is to investigate the possibility of using solar photovoltaics in agricultural greenhouses in Greece and to assess their profitability compared with the profitability of their use in households. Semi-transparent and opaque photovoltaic cells can be used for electricity generation with the net-metering regulations covering all their annual electricity needs. Existing studies in various countries concerning their use in greenhouses have reported a payback period of the investments of 4-10 years. In Greece the cost of electricity in the agricultural sector is subsidized while economic incentives are offered regarding the use of this technology in greenhouses. Economic assessment of the investment of solar photovoltaics in greenhouses for a period of 25 years in Greece indicates payback periods of 7.2 and 14.4 years, depending on capital subsidies obtained, while positive net present values are achieved. Their use in households in Greece has a payback period of 10.4 years while the net present value is also positive. The current study indicates that the use of solar photovoltaics in modern greenhouses in Greece supported financially by the government according to the net-metering regulations is profitable, offering economic and environmental benefits to the farmers.

  • Demand-Side Management of Air-Source Heat Pump and Photovoltaic Systems for Heating Applications in the Italian Context

    摘要: Matching demand pro?le and solar irradiance availability is necessary to meet space heating and domestic hot water needs by means of an air-source heat pump and photovoltaic system in a single-family house. Demand-side management, with smart control of the water storage set-point, is a simple but effective technique. Several studies in the literature pursue demand-side matching and self-consumption goals through system adjustments based on the model predictive control. This study proposes a rule-based control strategy, based on instantaneous photovoltaic (PV) power production, with the purpose of enhancing the self-consumption. This strategy exploits the building’s thermal capacitance as a virtual battery, and the thermal storage capacity of the system by running the heat pump to its limit when PV surplus power is available, and by eventually using an electric heater in order to reach higher temperatures. Results of annual dynamic simulations of a building and its heating system show that the proposed rule-based control strategy is able to reduce signi?cantly the energy exchanges between the system and the grid. Despite the enlarged renewable energy share, economic analysis points out the pursuit of the self-consumption goal may lead to a diminution of the economic advantage in the Italian context (Italian weather data and the electric power pricing scheme).

  • Performance evaluation of building-integrated photovoltaic systems for residential buildings in southern India

    摘要: The integration of photovoltaic modules into the building structure is a challenging task with respect to power generation of PV module and the effect of incident solar radiation. The performance of building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) modules varies depending upon the orientation and azimuth angle of the building. In this work, the year-round performance and economic feasibility analysis of grid-connected building-integrated photovoltaic (GBIPV) modules is reported for the hot and humid climatic regional condition at Kovilpatti (9°10'00"N, 77°52'00"E), Tamil Nadu, India. The appropriate mounting structures are provided, to experimentally simulate the performance of GBIPV modules at various orientations and inclination angles (0° to 90°). The result indicated that the optimum orientation for installation of BIPV modules in the fa?ade and walls is found to be east while that for a pitched roof south orientation is recommended. The overall average annual performance ratio, capacity utilisation factor, array capture loss and system losses are found to be 0.83, 23%, 0.07 (h/day), and 0.17 (h/day), respectively. In addition, the economic feasibility of grid connected PV system for residential buildings in Tamil Nadu, India is analysed using HOMER by incorporating both a net metering process and electricity tariff.

    摘要: The high penetration of distributed renewable energy sources (DRESs), and especially photovoltaics (PVs), in LV distribution grids questions their safe and reliable operation. In this context, battery energy storage (BES) systems can be an effective solution to reduce the intermittency of electricity generated by DRESs and to enhance the resilience of power systems. However, it is unclear how different incentive schemes and regulatory frameworks affect the BES profitability for prosumers, compared with no incentives at all. In this paper, a techno-economic model is developed to investigate the economic viability of BES for residential PVs, operated under different incentive schemes. The input parameters of the model include typical load and generation profiles, electricity prices as well as typical PV and BES costs. Using these data, an optimization procedure based on an exhaustive search is performed and the optimal size of the integrated PV-BES system is derived.
