  • Synergistic Effect of Plasma and Laser Processes in Liquid for Alloyed-Nanoparticle Synthesis

    摘要: Cu-Ag-alloy nanoparticles (NPs) are synthesized from micropowders of pure Cu and Ag by two consecutive nonequilibrium processes based on plasma and lasers in liquids. The plasma process reduces the size of the particles forming the initial powders from micrometer size to nanometer size, at which the laser fluence is sufficient to melt them, making alloying possible. Measurements at macroscopic (solution absorption), microscopic (scattering of individual NPs), and nanoscopic (electron microscopy) scales confirm alloying of NPs and homogenization of size and composition. This has a noticeable effect on the final colloidal solution, which absorbs yellow-orange light (550–600 nm) after laser treatment. With a synthesis rate of 360 mg/h, this process opens up possibilities for nonequilibrium nanometallurgy of functional NPs.

  • Sterilization for Bacillus Subtilis var. natto by Low Pressure Sputtering and Laser Ablation Plasma using Metal Powder Target

    摘要: Effect of plasma sterilization for bacillus subtilis var. natto was studied using pulsed laser ablation and low pressure RF plasma, which usually used for functional thin film deposition. In addition, bulk and powder were used as the targets and compared the effect for the sterilization . Experimental results suggest that bacillus subtilis var. natto was not sterilized in the only vacuum state. However, they can be sterilized using low pressure RF plasma and pulsed laser ablation plasma irradiation. The effect of the sterilization using powder target was higher than that of bulk target, and that of the pulsed laser ablation plasma was higher than RF plasma. Those results suggest that the effect of sterilization was decided by the density of the high-energy metal atoms and ions.

  • Plasma Based Synthesis of Nanomaterials for Development of Plasmon Enhanced Infrared Responsive Optoelectronic Device

    摘要: We report plasma based fabrication of an optoelectronic device with plasmon enhanced infrared sensitivity realized by integrating plasmonic gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) with an organic semiconductor matrix. A blend of plasma polymerized aniline (PPA)-Rubrene, prepared by a novel plasma based method acts as the semiconductor matrix for charge transport in the device geometry. Significantly improved photovoltaic property of the device with an open circuit voltage (VOC) of 1.08 V is obtained with the addition of Au NPs in the device. We experimentally demonstrate very efficient plasmon generated charge transfer between Au NPs and PPA-Rubrene system leading to significant enhancement of infrared responsivity of 2200% at the plasmon absorption band of Au. This study demonstrates how plasma based processes can be utilized to prepare plasmonic nano-materials and also to synthesize organic semiconductor materials suitable for development of plasmonic charge generating devices responsive to infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum.
