    摘要: This paper presents the design and simulation of an active power filter (APF) supported by a PV plant. The system can operate in three different modes: APF, APF+PV and APF+PV+Px, which means the system functions as APF extracting the necessary energy to compensate harmonics and unbalances entirely from the grid, the second mode means that this energy is extracted from the PV, and the last mode allows to use all the power available in the PV system to feed the load, support the APF and to export PV energy to the grid. The system includes a PV generator, a DC/DC converter controlled with MPPT, and a voltage source converter (VSC) acting as APF. P-Q Theory algorithm is used to control the APF. The system is simulated on MATLAB/Simscape Power Systems toolbox on three scenarios.

  • Grid Interactive Single Stage Solar Powered Water Pumping System Utilizing Improved Control Technique

    摘要: This paper proposes a single stage grid interactive solar powered switched reluctance motor (SRM) driven water pumping system with an efficient control technique. The control of proposed system provides the proficient maximum power point technique (MPPT) tracking and motor drive control with bidirectional power flow between the photovoltaic (PV) array and single phase grid. It has harmonics components elimination, improved dynamic performance and a DC offset rejection capability compared to other control. A PV feed-forward term is also incorporated in developed control to enhance the dynamic performance of the system and to minimize the size of DC link capacitor with improved MPPT performance. The novel scheme of fundamental switching of SRM drive over its maximum operational time (when the grid is present) makes system efficient and reliable. An improved perturb and observe (P&O) based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm is used in this system to minimize the undesirable losses in a PV array specially under varying insolation levels. The proposed control is tested on a developed prototype and its suitability is authenticated through simulated and test results under various conditions.

    摘要: In this paper, a charging station (CS) is proposed that uses a solar photovoltaic (PV) array, a battery energy storage system (BES), the grid and a diesel generator (DG) set to provide uninterruptible charging of electric vehicles (EVs). However, these energy sources are utilized in a way that minimizes the operational cost of the CS. Therefore, it reduces the charging cost of the electric vehicles (EVs). To achieve uninterruptible charging and to minimize the charging cost, a charging strategy is proposed that prioritizes the use of energy sources. Based on this, the solar PV and BES energy are used as a priority. After that, the grid is used, and finally, a DG set is used when all energy sources are not accessible. This strategy is based on the cost of electricity per kWh. Normally, the rooftop solar PV array offers power at INR 4.5-5/kWh. The grid offers power at INR 10/kWh, and DG set offers at INR 17-20/kWh. To further minimize the charging cost, the single phase two winding self-excited induction generator (SEIG) based DG set is operated at the single point of saturation characteristic to generate much high power than its rated power. Moreover, a single two-leg voltage source converter (VSC) does multiple tasks such as, 1) generation of sinusoidal voltage in standalone mode, 2) regulation of generator voltage and frequency, 3) management of power flow, 4) reactive power compensation and harmonics current elimination and it also reduces the initial cost of the CS. To obtain ceaseless charging while connecting the grid/DG set to the CS, the point of common coupling (PCC) voltage is synchronized with the grid/DG set voltage. The CS provides both AC and DC output ports for charging the EVs. To charge the EVs on AC port, the CS uses solar PV array and BES energy to generate a sinusoidal voltage of 220V and 50Hz. Moreover, with both grid and DG, the CS draws power at unity power factor (PF) with current total harmonics distortion (THD) less than 5% as required by an IEEE 519 standard.

  • Coordinated control of MPPT and voltage regulation using single-stage high gain DC–DC converter in a grid-connected PV system

    摘要: In general, grid-connected PV system uses two stages of DC-DC converter to accomplish Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) and DC voltage regulation. In order to overcome the two stage conversion, a single stage high gain DC-DC converter is presented in this paper. The operation of three switches with two different duty ratio is the main advantage of this converter to accomplish the coordinated control of MPPT and DC voltage regulation. This coordinated control also helps to provide constant DC voltage to the DC loads though the inverter is disconnected from the DC bus. A 1KW grid-connected PV system with the proposed DC-DC converter is developed and is validated using OP4500 Real-Time test platform. In addition, a decoupled control strategy with fractional order proportional-integral (FOPI) controller is implemented at the inverter end. Also, the reactive power compensation, harmonic reduction (less than 5% as per the IEEE 519 standard) and the grid power factor close to unity is obtained and the results are validated using the real-time simulator.

    摘要: Recently, the renewable photovoltaic distributed generation (PV-DG) enjoys a rapid growth globally due to the advancement in solar systems and power electronics technologies. However, the intermittent nature of solar radiation and performance of the attached power converters, inevitably poses some challenges to the power grids integrated large-scale solar-farms (SF). These challenges include frequency oscillations, voltage variation and power quality issues. To overcome these problems, this study proposes a Current-Fed quasi Z-source Inverter (CF-qZSI) as an alternative converter for distribution generation controllers to facilitate the integration of a PV energy source into a weak power system. The detailed model of the CF-qZSI-based distribution controller (CqZDC) and its control system are developed. The dynamic performance of the CqZDC device is evaluated to validate different objectives using an actual field data and RTDS simulation platform.

  • Kalman Filtering Technique for Rooftop-PV System under Abnormal Grid Conditions

    摘要: This paper presents a robust extended complex Kalman Filter (RECKF) based control for multifunctional double stage grid-connected solar photovoltaic array (SPVA) system. The main contributions of presented paper, include: 1) real power generation from SPVA fulfils the requirement of the connected loads and it provides the surplus power to the distribution network, 2) it behaves as a distribution static compensator, which performs various functionalities such as grid currents balancing, harmonics mitigation, unity power factor operation, 3) it is capable to operate under polluted grid scenarios such as under voltage, over voltage and imbalanced grid voltages. The SPVA feed-forward term is incorporated in the control technique to enhance the dynamic response of the system. The real coded particle swarm optimization (RCPSO) based metaheuristic approach is used for optimal tuning of the DC link voltage PI (Proportional Integral) controller. Simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of presented control algorithm under variations in point of common coupling (PCC) voltage. Test results illustrate the behaviour of grid-connected SPVA system subjected to various perturbations such as under voltages, over voltages, distorted and imbalanced grid voltages etc. The THDs (Total Harmonic Distortions) of grid currents are achieved well within recommended limits.

  • Framework of Gradient Descent Least Squares Regression Based NN Structure for Power Quality Improvement in PV Integrated Low-Voltage Weak Grid System

    摘要: This work proposes a novel gradient descent least squares regression (GDLSR) based neural network (NN) structure for control of grid-integrated solar PV (Photovoltaic) system with improved power quality. Here, a single layer neuron structure is used for the extraction of fundamental component (FC) from the load current. During FC extraction, GDLSR based NN structure attenuates harmonic components, noise, DC offsets, bias, notches and distortions from the nonlinear current, which improves the power quality under normal as well as under abnormal grid conditions. This single layer GDLSR-based NN structure has a very simple architecture, which decreases the computational burden and algorithm complexity. Therefore, it is easy in implementation. In this work, the GDLSR based control technique is tested on a single-phase single-stage grid-integrated PV topology with the nonlinear loads. The prime objective of the GDLSR based NN structure is to provide reactive power compensation, power factor correction, harmonics filtering and mitigation of other power quality issues. Moreover, when solar irradiation is zero, then the DC link capacitor and VSC, act as a distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM), which enhances the utilization factor of the system. The proposed system is modelled, and its performances are verified experimentally on a developed prototype in different grid disturbances as well as solar insolation variation conditions, which performances have satisfied the motive of proposed technique as well as the IEEE-519 standard.

  • LLMLF based Control Approach and LPO MPPT Technique for Improving Performance of a Multifunctional Three-Phase Two-Stage Grid Integrated PV System

    摘要: This study presents a novel Leaky Least Mean Logarithmic Fourth (LLMLF) based control technique and Learning based Perturb and Observe (LPO) maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm, for optimal control of grid-tied solar photovoltaic (PV) system. Here, a novel LLMLF algorithm is developed for active component extraction from load current, and a novel LPO MPPT algorithm is developed for optimal MPPT operation. Proposed LPO is the improved form of Perturb and Observe (P&O) algorithm, where inherent problems of traditional P&O algorithm like steady-state oscillation, slow dynamic responses and fixed step size issues, are successfully mitigated. The prime objective of proposed LLMLF control is to, fulfill the active power requirement of the loads from generated solar PV power, and excess power is fed to the grid. However, when generated PV power is less than the required load power, then LLMLF fulfills the load by taking extra required power from the grid. During this process, power quality is improved at the grid. The controller action provides reactive power compensation, power factor correction, harmonics filtering and mitigation of other power quality issues. Moreover, when the solar irradiation is zero, than the DC link capacitor and VSC act as DSTATCOM (Distribution Static Compensator), which enhances the utilization factor of the system. The proposed techniques are modeled and their performances are verified experimentally on a developed prototype, in solar insolation variation condition, imbalance loading condition for linear/nonlinear loads, as well as in different grid disturbances such as over-voltage, under-voltage, phase imbalance, harmonics distortion in the grid voltage etc, where it has shown a very good performance.

    摘要: This study deals with a solar photovoltaic (PV) and pico-hydro based microgrid having a battery energy storage (BES), which transfers uninterruptable power across voltage source converter (VSC) at the common coupling point (CCP). Only one VSC in this system, has the competency to eradicate the power quality problems, compensation of harmonics current, regulation of frequency and voltage under varying loads. A battery energy storage (BES), which is coupled directly to the DC bus, manages the power flow under the changes in loading and variable power generation. A synchronous reluctance generator (SYRG) for pico-hydro generation is used because of its reliability, and cost-effectiveness than other such as permanent magnet brushless generators synchronous generator. The SRFT (Synchronous Reference Frame Theory) control is used to control the system frequency and voltage at PCC. The proposed system uses an INC (Incremental Conductance) technique for extraction of maximum power from a PV array. The smooth performance of the microgrid under various operating conditions, is demonstrated through experimental results, which meet power quality requirement of the IEEE 519 standard.

  • Integration of Solar PV with Low-Voltage Weak Grid System: using Maximize-M Kalman Filter and Self-tuned P&O Algorithm

    摘要: This paper introduces a novel 'self-tuned perturb and observe (P&O)' (SPO) algorithm for quick maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and a novel maximize-M Kalman filter (MMKF) based control technique for optimal operation of 'grid-integrated solar PV system, where linear/nonlinear loads are attached at PCC (Point of Common Coupling)'. Proposed SPO is the improved form of perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm, where inherent problems of traditional P&O like steady-state oscillation, slow dynamic responses and fixed step size issues, are successfully mitigated. Therefore, SPO tracks maximum power peak (MPP) very rapidly and it very accurately extracts maximum power from the PV array. The extracted power is used to meet the active power requirement of loads, and after meeting the load demand, the excess power is supplied to the grid. During power feeding, the power quality and power management are maintained by the MMKF based control technique. In control strategy, the MMKF is used for fundamental harmonic component extraction from the grid voltage and load current, even when the grid voltage is characterized by adverse situations, like sag, swell, harmonic distortion, DC offset etc. Here, the SPO MPPT algorithm and MMKF based control techniques, are tested on a developed prototype. The efficient and reliable performances of SPO MPPT algorithm and MMKF based control algorithm, in dynamic as well as in steady-state condition, are demonstrated under insolation variation conditions, nonlinear loading, as well as in different grid disturbances such as over-voltage, under-voltage, phase imbalance, harmonics distortion in the grid voltage etc.
