摘要: Using a powered wheelchair (PW) is a complex task requiring advanced perceptual and motor control skills. Unfortunately, PW incidents and accidents are not uncommon and their consequences can be serious. The objective of this paper is to develop technological tools that can be used to characterize a wheelchair user’s driving behavior under various settings. In the experiments conducted, PWs are out?tted with a datalogging platform that records, in real-time, the 3-D acceleration of the PW. Data collection was conducted over 35 different activities, designed to capture a spectrum of PW driving events performed at different speeds (collisions with ?xed or moving objects, rolling on incline plane, and rolling across multiple types obstacles). The data was processed using time-series analysis and data mining techniques, to automatically detect and identify the different events. We compared the classi?cation accuracy using four different types of time-series features: 1) time-delay embeddings; 2) time-domain characterization; 3) frequency-domain features; and 4) wavelet transforms. In the analysis, we compared the classi?cation accuracy obtained when distinguishing between safe and unsafe events during each of the 35 different activities. For the purposes of this study, unsafe events were de?ned as activities containing collisions against objects at different speed, and the remainder were de?ned as safe events. We were able to accurately detect 98% of unsafe events, with a low (12%) false positive rate, using only ?ve examples of each activity. This proof-of-concept study shows that the proposed approach has the potential of capturing, based on limited input from embedded sensors, contextual information on PW use, and of automatically characterizing a user’s PW driving behavior.

Scattering Effect on Optical Performance of Quantum Dot White Light-Emitting Diodes Incorporating SiOa?? Nanoparticles
摘要: Traditional rehabilitation techniques have limited effects on the recovery of patients with tetraplegia. A brain–computer interface (BCI) provides an interactive channel that does not depend on the normal output of peripheral nerves and muscles. In this paper, an integrated framework of a noninvasive electroencephalogram (EEG)-based BCI with a noninvasive functional electrical stimulation (FES) is established, which can potentially enable the upper limbs to achieve more effective motor rehabilitation. The EEG signals based on steady-state visual evoked potential are used in the BCI. Their frequency domain characteristics identi?ed by the pattern recognition method are utilized to recognize intentions of ?ve subjects with average accuracy of 73.9%. Furthermore the movement intentions are transformed into instructions to trigger FES, which is controlled with iterative learning control method, to stimulate the relevant muscles of upper limbs tracking desired velocity and position. It is a useful technology with potential to restore, reinforce or replace lost motor function of patients with neurological injuries. Experiments with ?ve healthy subjects demonstrate the feasibility of BCI integrated with upper extremity FES toward improved function restoration for an individual with upper limb disabilities, especially for patients with tetraplegia.

High Intensity Laser Therapy for Treatment of Spinal Disorders
摘要: The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the effectiveness of high intensity laser therapy (HILT) on pain and function in individuals with spinal disorders. Six Electronic databases were searched up to the end of February 2018. In addition, the reference lists of all included studies were searched for any relevant studies. Studies were eligible for inclusion if they met the following criteria: randomised controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the effectiveness of HILT in adult individuals (<18 years old) with spinal disorders, studies must have at least one primary outcome measure of pain and function, and all included studies must be written in English language. PRISMA guidelines were followed to prepare this review. The number in CRD42018090019. PEDro scale and GRADE system were performed to assess the quality of studies. A meta-analysis was conducted to calculate the overall effect size. A total of ten RCTs met the inclusion criteria, with four studies of the ef?cacy of HILT on neck pain (NP) and six on low back pain (LBP). Forest plots showed that HILT with exercise was signi?cantly more effective than placebo HILT with exercise in terms of pain reduction (SMD -1.42 to -0.80; P<0.00001; I2 0%) and functional improvement (SMD -1.03; 95% CI -1.33 to -0.72; P<0.00001; I2 0%). Meta-analyses also showed that HILT alone or HILT with conventional physiotherapy (CPT) signi?cantly provided better outcomes than CPT alone. HILT is considered as a complementary modality for pain reduction and function improvement in individuals with spinal disorders. However, the quality of the body of evidence was rated from ‘very low’ to ‘low’ quality.

Synergistic effects of vacuum therapy and laser therapy on physical rehabilitation
摘要: [Purpose] This study aims to evaluate the synergistic effects of laser therapy and vacuum therapy in the rehabilitation of some disorders of the osteomuscular articular system (shoulder bursitis, low back pain, hip dysfunction after long-term impact of femoral endoprosthesis). [Participants and Methods] Three case reports were described. A vacuum laser system was used, which is a device that contains 1 handpiece with 3 red lasers (660 nm) and 3 infrared lasers (808 nm). This device contains 6 laser beams that are arranged around the vacuum chamber bore which generate negative pressure. Two weekly sessions were held, totalling 10 treatment sessions. Active goniometry was performed to assess range of motion (ROM) of the shoulder, lumbar spine and hip, and visual analogue scale (VAS) was used to evaluate pain in the pre and posttreatment period. [Results] There was a pain reduction and an increase in ROM in the different clinical cases. [Conclusion] Potentiating laser therapy through suctioning during the rehabilitation process leads to pain relief and increased functionality.

Improved Performance of Deep Ultraviolet Photodetector From Sputtered Ga <sub/>2</sub> O <sub/>3</sub> Films Using Post-Thermal Treatments
摘要: The upper limb rehabilitation training is critical and indispensable for post-stroke patients. In recent years, an increasing number of rehabilitation robots have been well-designed, and the advantages of these robotic devices include making repetitive movements easily, automating the therapy process and supply therapists with a novel tool. Thus, we design a rehabilitation training and administration system for upper limb rehabilitation robot (TAS). In the system, the user information interfaces are introduced so that therapists can collect, store, retrieve and exchange patients’ identification electronically. Moreover, the passive training method and virtual reality games are programmed to stimulate patients’ enthusiasm in training process. Using the database, the basic information and historical training performance are stored for further analysis. Finally, the experiment demonstrates that our system is reliable and user-friendly to improve efficiency of rehabilitation therapies, which provide a feasible solution to the shortage of therapists.

A new optical technique to monitor joint motion using position sensitive detector
摘要: BACKGROUND: Evaluation of joint movements is essential to choose an appropriate rehabilitation protocol for a patient. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to suggest an alternative optical technique for measurement of joint angle which is convenient, inexpensive, and can be operated in real time. METHODS: According to the principle of the triangulation method, position sensitive detector (PSD) converts reflected light signals into distance-related voltages. Various parameters were investigated to increase detection range and resolution of joint angle measurements. RESULTS: The accuracy of the suggested optical sensor was verified by comparing with a commercial goniometer and 3D motion capture system. CONCLUSIONS: This method can be applied to monitor recovery progress for the patient in rehabilitation and sport science.

摘要: Low vision rehabilitation is an important step towards individuals with Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) regaining useful functional vision and quality of life. One of the key steps in low vision rehabilitation is the determination of the preferred retinal locus (PRL). Currently, localization of PRL is performed manually though the guidance of a low vision therapist and the process is highly time-consuming, labour-intensive and subjective. In this paper, we present an automated system to objectively and accurately locate an individual’s PRL with the aid of gaze tracking technology. We also propose a graph-based method for false fixation detection to improve the system robustness. We validated the reliability of the system by using eye tracking technology to simulate central vision loss on people with normal vision. Experimental results show the potential use of eye tracking in detecting PRL for low vision rehabilitation.

Combined treatment of sodium ferulate, <i>n</i> -butylidenephthalide, and ADSCs rehabilitates neurovascular?unit in rats after photothrombotic stroke
摘要: The remodelling of structural and functional neurovascular unit (NVU) becomes a central therapeutic strategy after cerebral ischaemic stroke. In the present study, we investigated the effect of combined therapy of sodium ferulate (SF), n‐butylidenephthalide (BP) and adipose‐derived stromal cells (ADSCs) to ameliorate the injured NVU in the photochemically induced thrombotic stroke in rats. After solely or combined treatment, the neovascularization, activation of astrocytes, neurogenesis, expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and claudin‐5 were assessed by immunohistochemical or immunofluorescence staining. In order to uncover the underlying mechanism of therapeutic effect, signalling of protein kinase B/mammalian target of rapamycin (AKT/mTOR), extracellular signal‐regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2), and Notch1 in infarct zone were analysed by western blot. 18F‐2‐deoxy‐glucose/positron emission tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, Evans blue staining were employed to evaluate the glucose metabolism, cerebral blood flow (CBF), and brain‐blood barrier (BBB) permeability, respectively. The results showed that combined treatment increased the neovascularization, neurogenesis, and VEGF secretion, modulated the astrocyte activation, enhanced the regional CBF, and glucose metabolism, as well as reduced BBB permeability and promoted claudin‐5 expression, indicating the restoration of structure and function of NVU. The activation of ERK1/2 and Notch1 pathways and inhibition of AKT/mTOR pathway might be involved in the therapeutic mechanism. In summary, we have demonstrated that combined ADSCs with SF and BP, targeting the NVU remodelling, is a potential treatment for ischaemic stroke. These results may provide valuable information for developing future combined cellular and pharmacological therapeutic strategy for ischaemic stroke.

Optical and nonoptical aids for reading and writing in individuals with acquired low vision
摘要: Purpose: To evaluate the use of optical and nonoptical aids during reading and writing activities in individuals with acquired low vision. Methods: This study was performed using descriptive and cross-sectional surveys. The data collection instrument was created with structured questions that were developed from an exploratory study and a previous test based on interviews, and it evaluated the following variables: personal characteristics, use of optical and nonoptical aids, and activities that required the use of optical and nonoptical aids. Results: The study population included 30 subjects with acquired low vision and visual acuities of 20/200-20/400. Most subjects reported the use of some optical aids (60.0%). Of these 60.0%, the majority (83.3%) cited spectacles as the most widely used optical aid. The majority (63.3%) of subjects also reported the use of nonoptical aids, the most frequent ones being letter magnification (68.4%), followed by bringing the objects closer to the eyes (57.8%). Subjects often used more than one nonoptical aid. Conclusions: The majority of participants reported the use of optical and nonoptical aids during reading activities, highlighting the use of spectacles, magnifying glasses, and letter magnification; however, even after the use of these aids, we found that the subjects often needed to read the text more than once to understand it. During writing activities, all subjects reported the use of optical aids, while most stated that they did not use nonoptical aids for such activities.
