    摘要: Photonic Crystal has attracted many researchers because of their distinctive capabilities, larger application areas. In this paper, a polarization splitter based on photonic crystal is developed with the help of photonic band gap diagram and self-collimation method. The photonic crystal based splitter is constructed in hexagonal lattice structure with GaAs rods placed in air. To obtain the band diagram, the radius of the rods is considered as 100 nm with lattice constant of 500nm. The developed polarization splitter is simulated using RSOFT software. It is observed through the simulation results that Cthe proposed splitter design achieves better transmission spectral and optical field distributions for both TE and TM modes. Power dissipation is reduced compared to that of existing splitters. 90% transmission is obtained for the proposed model.

    摘要: We report on low loss and broad bandwidth X-junctions based on adiabatically tapered rib waveguide silicon photonic devices. The fabricated devices exhibit a compact footprint of 20 μm (taper length), a broad bandwidth over 24 nm, and a low excess loss of 0.28 dB.     摘要: In this work we present the first terahertz polarization splitter based on a parallel-plate waveguide (PPWG). The proposed structure consists of a stacked array of stainless steel plates with 0.8 mm spacing. The device is capable of splitting the two orthogonal polarization components (TM and TE) in a frequency range of 180 GHz to 500 GHz. This unique technology represents an example of an artificially birefringent material.

  • Angular Dependence of Photonic Crystal Coupled to Photovoltaic Solar Cell

    摘要: Photonic crystals have the advantage of minimizing thermal losses from solar cells, reflecting the solar radiation that is not absorbed by the photovoltaic device. To optimize this optical response, photonic crystals are designed considering the relative position of the Bragg peak and the bandgap of the solar cell, under normal incident irradiation conditions. The aim of this research article was to determine experimentally the optical limits of a solar cell coupled to a photonic crystal acting as beam splitter. For that purpose, the photovoltaic system was characterized under indoor and outdoor conditions; angular dependence of the irradiation source was determined in each case, and both results were compared with good agreement. Moreover, other parameters such as irradiation spectrum and polarization of the light were investigated. The main conclusion is that photovoltaic performance is highly affected by the Bragg peak shifting and the profile is distorted, due to the angular dependence with the sun. These experimental limits must be considered at the early design stage to avoid performance losses.

  • Realization of a compact broadband polarization beam splitter using the three-waveguide coupler

    摘要: A compact broadband polarization beam splitter is designed and experimentally demonstrated based on a silicon-nitride-assisted three-waveguide coupler. With the help of coving a layer of silicon nitride on the center bridged silicon waveguide, the phase matching is met for the TM mode but not for the TE mode. The final optimized device length is only 7 μm, and the polarization beam splitter has the high extinction ratios of more than 30 dB for the TE mode and that of more than 20 dB for the TM mode in the wavelength ranging from 1.5 μm to 1.6 μm. And the corresponding insertion losses are less than 0.06 dB and 0.35 dB, respectively. The experimental measurement results also show the polarization beam splitter has good performances.

  • Long Range Multilayer Hybrid Plasmonic Waveguide Components and Integrated Circuit

    摘要: In this work, CMOS compatible hybrid insulator metal insulator (HIMI) planar plasmonic waveguide based components such as, racetrack ring resonator, y-splitter, coupler and dual parabolic profile nano antenna have been proposed and investigated at 1.55 μm operating wavelength for the first time. The proposed components are analyzed at various parametric variations using CST microwave studio. The proposed racetrack ring resonator offers 153.88 nm free spectral range, 0.3232 nm FWHM and 46.57 dB extinction ratio at 0.40 μm radius and 0.49 μm separation length. Y-splitter divides equal power of 46.85% in both output arms and coupler couples till 86.5% power in coupled arm. The dual parabolic profile nano antenna offers a gain, bandwidth and efficiency of 7.99 dB, 203 THz and 84.56 % respectively. Using all the components, HIMI plasmonic integrated circuits have also been designed and investigated for on chip applications. Proposed components work very efficiently in chip scale integrated circuit. This investigation provides groundwork for future chip scale applications.

  • PT-symmetric transverse mode splitting in coupled quantum cascade lasers

    摘要: Separation of transverse modes in waveguides typically achieved by manipulating mode effective indices is of current interest in integrated optics and various designs have been proposed. Recently, implementation of non-Hermitian optics under parity time (PT) symmetry has led to an alternate class of devices employing gain and loss media with far reaching results. Introduction of PT symmetry to non-Hermitian systems results in real solutions while symmetry breaking results in imaginary eigenvalues. However, applications of PT symmetry in the infrared devices is quite limited. In this work, we demonstrate a mode splitter that can separate transverse modes in coupled PT symmetric in realistic quantum cascade lasers (QC lasers). We study the effects of gain and loss for coupled PT symmetric QC laser waveguides and show that TE0 and TE1 modes can be separated with proper choice of gain and loss values.

  • A multi-spot laser induced breakdown spectroscopy system based on diffraction beam splitter

    摘要: A quick simultaneous multispot laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) system has been proposed. The basic idea is to combine the Diffraction Beam Splitter (DBS) with the linear-to-linear fiber bundle. The DBS divided the incident laser beam into five sub-beams, and then, a lens focused the incident sub-beam to produce a plasma array, where the distance between the neighbor subplasma was constant and the plasma emission was imaged on the fiber bundle. Each ablated spot on the sample generated the corresponding spectroscopy signals, which were collected by the defined fibers of the fiber bundle, propagated to the spectrograph slit, and then analyzed by the intensified charge-coupled device (ICCD) detector, where the two-dimensional capability of the charge-coupled device detectors was explored for the spectroscopy and position analyses. The five spectroscopy ribbon presented on the ICCD corresponded to the plasma radiation of the five ablated spots. The feasibility of a simultaneous multipoint spectroscopy detection at a single pulse ablation was confirmed by subjecting to the spectroscopy analyses of a copper plane, layered material, and magnesium-molybdenum mixture. The multispot LIBS system can be used in the ejecta research of detonation physics, fluid physics, and so on.

    摘要: The usually employed methods of using spin states of atomic-like systems for quantum information encoding suffer from scalability issues. For example, it becomes very challenging to control a large number of trapped atomic ions each representing a physical qubit. The alternative approach would be to exploit the large Hilbert space provided by a near-harmonic trapping potential and encode the information in the oscillator states. We use sideband-resolved addressing of motional states in a single trapped 171Yb ion to demonstrate a conditional beam splitter gate. The conditional beam splitter (CBS) Hamiltonian |e??e|(a?b + ab?) swaps the quantum states of two motional modes of a trapped ion, conditioned on the ion’s internal state. It thus can be viewed as a SWAP gate and we utilize it to demonstrate SWAP tests, implement single shot parity measurements, and generate maximally entangled NOON states of motion. We discuss the spurious phase shifts that prevent the gate to be dubbed as universal and show that with an addition of an ancilla vacuum mode, the conditional beam splitter gate in trapped ion system can be used to construct a universal exponential-SWAP gate that is required for practical algorithms such as matrix inversion and other interesting applications.

  • Phase response of atom interferometers based on sequential Bragg diffractions

    摘要: Large Momentum Transfer (LMT) beam splitters are implemented in atom interferometers to increase their sensitivity. However, LMT-interferometer light-pulses that modify the response function of the atom requires additional interferometer. In this paper, we develop an analytical model for the sensitivity function of the LMT-interferometers using sequential accelerating light pulses. We use the sensitivity function to calculate the acceleration sensitivity taking into account the pulse duration. In addition, the sensitivity to laser phase fluctuations is calculated, and we show that the pulse sequence can be engineered to mitigate the phase noise sensitivity.
