  • Two dimensional sinusoidal Ag nanograting exhibits polarization-independent surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy and its surface plasmon polariton and localized surface plasmon coupling with Au nanospheres colloids

    摘要: A reproducible surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate based on two dimensional (2D) sinusoidal Ag nanograting is presented. This SERS substrate with large area can be easily fabricated by maskless laser interference photolithography. The potential SERS polarization‐independent performance of 2D sinusoidal Ag nanograting is deduced by finite difference time domain and demonstrated by SERS detection experiments. A double‐enhanced Raman scattering (DERS) substrate by coupling 2D sinusoidal Ag nanograting with Au nanospheres colloids is created. With the optimal DERS substrate, SERS enhancement factor can be 10 orders of magnitude as possible. The DERS substrate was fabricated and an extra SERS effect was proved by experiments. This DERS substrate will be fabricated in a microfluidics‐based sensor in the next work and used for in situ, real‐time, continuous monitoring of trace water soluble gas‐phase or airborne agents, such as trace explosives in air.

  • Characteristics of a Vertical Metal-Insulator-Metal Microring Cavity

    摘要: We propose a vertical metal-insulator-metal (MIM) plasmonic cavity that comprises top Ag and bottom InGaAsP microring structures on an Ag substrate. A full vectorial numerical simulation was used to characterize the fundamental optical properties of the transverse-magnetic-like plasmonic whispering-gallery-modes (WGMs) excited in a variety of MIM plasmonic cavities. In addition, we exploit the controllability of far-field radiations using the single MIM microring cavity and successfully demonstrate strong directional and localized vertical radiations from the plasmonic WGMs by introducing a number of nanoscale disks along the circumference of the cavity. Our plasmonic cavity can be applied as a component of nanoscale photonic integrated circuits as well as spatially localized out-of-plane optical sensors.

  • [Springer Series in Optical Sciences] Fano Resonances in Optics and Microwaves Volume 219 (Physics and Applications) || Multiple-Resonance Interference in Metallic Nanohole Arrays

    摘要: In metallic nanohole arrays, the surface plasmon polaritons on the metal surfaces and the waveguide modes in the nanoholes are combined to form multipole surface plasmons. If these surface bound modes appear in a narrow frequency range, interference between multiple resonances and yields various resonant peak-dip structures in transmission, reflection and absorption spectra. In this chapter, we discuss the theoretical details of the mechanism of the multiple-resonance interference in metallic nanohole array systems using spatial and temporal coupled mode methods.

  • Surface plasmon-enhanced near-field thermal rectification in graphene-based structures

    摘要: We propose a thermal rectification structure composed of InSb and graphene-coated 3C-SiC separated by a nanoscale vacuum gap. To obtain an obvious thermal rectification effect, the permittivities of these materials are all considered to be temperature-dependent. Numerical calculations based on fluctuation electrodynamics reveal that the introduction of graphene into the structure enhances significantly near-field radiative heat flux and thermal rectification efficiency owing to the strong coupling of surface plasmon-polaritons between InSb and graphene. In general, the rectification efficiency above 60% can be maintained for the vacuum gap less than 70 nm. The rectification efficiency exceeding 95% is realized for a vacuum gap of 10 nm and a chemical potential of 0.1 eV. Increasing the emitter’s temperature leads to the drastic increase of the rectification efficiency in a wider temperature range. A lower chemical potential seems more favorable to raising rapidly the rectification efficiency. The above results might be helpful in designing a thermal diode with higher efficiency and wider vacuum gap.

  • Surface enhanced perfect absorption in metamaterials with periodic dielectric nanostrips on silver film

    摘要: Integrated dielectric metamaterials with plasmonic structures can cause drastic optical resonances and strengthen the capacity of light absorption. Here, we describe the optical properties of silicon nanoarrays on a thin silver film for extreme light confinement at subwavelength nanoscales. We attain the nearly total absorption in silicon nanostrips, which support magnetic quadruple Mie-type resonances in the visible regions. The Mie resonant field of the dielectric nanostrip engages the screening response of the silver film, resulting in plasmon resonance configuration and thus achieving perfect light absorption in the dielectric nanostrip. Moreover, we can attain similar results in other nanostructures, such as silicon cylinder and rhombus column arrays. Because it can sustain hybridized plasmon modes and magnetic modes, the combined system will benefit the application of solar energy accumulation.

  • SURFACE-PLASMON-POLARITONS AT THE INTERFACE OF NANOSTRUCTURED METAMATERIALS

    摘要: The rigorous modeling and analysis of surface waves at the boundary of two metamaterials are presented. The nature of the phenomenon of the surface-plasmon-polaritons and the in?uence of various parameters on it are investigated. We have analyzed the properties of structures incorporating nanostructured metamaterials. Surface-plasmon-polaritons at the interface of such metamaterials are studied. We demonstrate the ways to control the properties of the surface waves. Each metamaterial comprises alternating metal and dielectric layers. We analyze the dependence of the dispersion characteristics on the materials employed in metal-dielectric compound. The consistency of the dispersion diagrams and e?ective permittivity is studied. The Drude model is introduced in the metal dispersion in order to take into account the e?ects of the structure on dielectric properties.

    摘要: In this paper, a symmetrical ultrathin spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPPs) is realized based on the traditional coplanar waveguide (CPW), which can achieve multi-band high-efficiency transmission by employing the periodic holes etched on the middle stripline. Physical mechanism of the proposed SSPPs is explained by using the dispersion curves and electric field distributions. The measured results have a good agreement with the simulated ones, which indicate that the proposed SSPPs will be potentially very useful for microwave applications.

  • Shielding Spoof Surface Plasmon Polariton Transmission Lines Using Dielectric Box

    摘要: Local leaky electromagnetic (EM) waves can impact the performance of the whole systems obviously due to the compact arrangement of integrated systems, including circuits based on spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs). However, the widely used metallic shielding box in the traditional EM compatibility technology will affect the propagation of SPP modes dramatically. In this letter, we propose the double-layer dielectric shielding box made by materials with high permittivity, which can reduce leaky EM waves without affecting the transmission efficiency of SPP transmission lines (TLs). We demonstrate in simulation and experiment that the dielectric-shielded SPP TLs perform better in propagation than metallic-shielded SPP TLs. The effectiveness of the dielectric shielding boxes is investigated as well, and the calculated and measured results indicate that the double-layer dielectric structure can produce outstanding shielding effectiveness.

  • Wide-Angle Beam Scanning Leaky-Wave Antenna Using Spoof Surface Plasmon Polaritons Structure

    摘要: This paper proposes a wide-angle beam scanning leaky-wave antenna (LWA) fed by a novel spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPP) transmission line (TL). In the proposed LWA, circular metallic patches are periodically loaded on both sides of the SSPP TL alternately, and convert guided waves into radiating waves. The transmission characteristics of the proposed SSPP TL are analyzed, and the transmission characteristics and radiation patterns of the proposed LWA are simulated and measured. The simulated and measured results show that the proposed LWA provides approximately 12.5 dBi of radiation gain within a frequency range of 8–24 GHz, and a beam scanning range of 90? from forward to backward continuously by increasing the feeding frequency. The proposed LWA, based on a novel SSPP TL, has advantages of single-layer conductor, continuous wide-angle beam scanning, and high gain especially at the broadside direction, which are dif?cult realize using conventional LWAs.
