  • Flap double twist technique for prevention of LASIK flap striae

    摘要: A novel flap double twist technique was applied to reduce the incidence of post-laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) flap striae. The flap is floated and stroked in the same way as is done for management of first postoperative day striae, where the method is to float and irrigate the flap into position, followed by applying gentle pressure on the flap with a wet Merocel microsponge and moving the flap away from the hinge position. The sponge is then manually squeezed to become drier, and the flap is continuously stroked in a direction opposite to the hinge. Next, the flap is carefully twisted obliquely and sequentially in two opposite directions while applying gentle pressure on the flap in order to completely dehydrate the flap and stromal bed. Finally, the flap is repositioned while applying gentle horizontal pressure in two opposite directions. This novel flap double twist technique shows great success in post-LASIK striae prevention.

  • Development of a combination therapy with silanols complexed with boron citrate and ablative-fractional laser for treatment of wrinkles and stretch marks

    摘要: Objective: The 21st century's progress in medicine and cosmetology triggered the search for effective and safe new cosmetics and procedures to fight with such problems as wrinkles or stretch marks. The study aimed to use the synergy of silanols with boron compounds and to develop treatment methods supported by an fractional-ablative laser. Methods: Sixty-seven Caucasian people were enrolled in this study: 33 patients with facial and neck wrinkles and 34 patients with stretch marks. Preparations containing methylsilanetriol were pressed into the skin by means of oxygen infusion which were followed by the fractional-ablative laser treatments. Results: The effectiveness of removal of wrinkles was better if combination therapy was used in the form of transdermal delivery of methylsilanetriol combined with laser therapy. The effectiveness of stretch marks removal by combination therapy was comparable to a two laser treatments and more effective than one laser therapy. Moreover, the use of products based on methylsilanetriol stabilized with boric citrate resulted in shortening the period of regeneration after the treatment with fractional-ablative laser by 29-58%. Conclusion: The gel based on methylsilanetriol developed in this study can be successfully used after all laser treatments, but also those related to skin pricking to accelerate regeneration.

  • Shaping Metallic Nanolattices: Design by Microcontact Printing from Wrinkled Stamps

    摘要: A method for the fabrication of well-defined metallic nanostructures is presented here in a simple and straightforward fashion. As an alternative to lithographic techniques, this routine employs microcontact printing utilizing wrinkled stamps, which are prepared from polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), and includes the formation of hydrophobic stripe patterns on a substrate via the transfer of oligomeric PDMS. Subsequent backfilling of the interspaces between these stripes with a hydroxyl-functional poly(2-vinyl pyridine) then provides the basic pattern for the deposition of citrate-stabilized gold nanoparticles promoted by electrostatic interaction. The resulting metallic nanostripes can be further customized by peeling off particles in a second microcontact printing step, which employs poly(ethylene imine) surface-decorated wrinkled stamps, to form nanolattices. Due to the independent adjustability of the period dimensions of the wrinkled stamps and stamp orientation with respect to the substrate, particle arrays on the (sub)micro-scale with various kinds of geometries are accessible in a straightforward fashion. This work provides an alternative, cost-effective, and scalable surface-patterning technique to fabricate nanolattice structures applicable to multiple types of functional nanoparticles. Being a top-down method, this process could be readily implemented into, e.g., the fabrication of optical and sensing devices on a large scale.

  • Laser Preparing Tunable Wrinkles on the Surface of PDMS with Assistance of Pre-strain Stress

    摘要: Micro directional wrinkles are widely used to functionalize the surface inside micro chips. In this paper, a nano-second laser, with the assistance of pre-strain stress, was applied to prepare tunable wrinkles on the surface of PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane). Experiments were carried out to investigate the impact of the pre-strain stress and the laser fluence on the wrinkles, like the direction and the wavelength. It was noticed that wrinkles prepared in the process grown vertically to the direction of the pre-strain stress. The wrinkles wavelength increased from about 500nm to 2.5μm when the power shifted from 5W to 8W. And strengthening the pre-strain stress sharply reduced the wavelength at the beginning then the trend was slowed down and some cracks were observed. And the end, a model was proposed to tune the pattern of wrinkles by precisely control pre-strain stress and the laser power. With that, several pattern of wrinkles was prepared.

  • Stretchability and compressibility of a novel layout design for flexible electronics based on bended wrinkle geometries

    摘要: A novel bended wrinkle structure is proposed for layout design in flexible electronics, which is formed by compressive local buckling of the thin film bonded onto a pre-strained, finite-thickness substrate upon release of the pre-strain. The excellent performance of stretchability of this structure, which could be as high as 309%, is shown according to theoretical analyses and validated by finite element method (FEM). Furthermore, the maximum strain of the proposed design is examined to ensure reliability of application devices. Except for the approach to compressibility based on maximum strain analyses, the bended wrinkle structure is taken as a laminate with geometrical imperfections and buckling analyses are conducted to obtain the critical buckling loads, consequently another evaluation criterion for compressibility is established. It is also revealed that the stretchability can be further enhanced by bonding the two ends of the structure to another pre-strained compliant basal substrate, though the pre-strain for the basal substrate is restricted by the compressibility. In the current work, an alternative to existing planar wavelike layout designs is presented and the results obtained offer important design guidelines for future applications.
