  • Generation of dark solitons in erbium-doped fiber laser based on black phosphorus nanoparticles

    摘要: We demonstrate the generation of dark solitons (DSs) in erbium-doped fiber (EDF) laser based on black phosphorus nanoparticles (BPNPs) for the first time. The side-polished fiber deposited with BPNPs is embedded into the laser to enhance the birefringence and nonlinearity of the laser cavity. In the paper, the saturable absorption property of BPNPs with an optical modulation depth of 5.7% and a saturable intensity of 21.7 MW/cm2 are experimentally illustrated. After inserting the BPNPs saturable absorber (SA) into EDF laser, the DSs with repetition rate of 14.68 MHz are obtained at a pump power of 90 mW. Our results prove that the BPNPs are the promising candidate materials for generating DSs in EDF laser.

  • Black Phosphorus-Film with Drop-Casting Method for High-Energy Pulse Generation From Q-Switched Er-Doped Fiber Laser

    摘要: We have reported high-energy pulse generation from a Q-switched Er-doped fiber laser based on black phosphorus (BP) with a drop-casting method. Poly dimethyl diallyl ammonium (PDDA) is employed to protect BP. A passive Q-switching operation is achieved by using the BP/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) film as the saturable absorbers (SAs). When the pump power increases from 130.4 mW to 378 mW, the repetition rate increases from 13.33 kHz to 26.6 kHz, and the pulse duration decreases from 10.67 μs to 7.11 μs. The maximum pulse energy is 468.03 nJ, to the best of our knowledge, which is the highest pulse energy produced from Q-switched fiber laser based on BP-SA at 1.5 μm. The obtained high-energy pulse demonstrates that BP/PVA film fabricated by such a drop-casting method can provide an ideal SA for high pulse energy generation from fiber lasers, and it has a potential application of remote sensing.

  • Polydopamine-functionalized black phosphorus quantum dots for cancer theranostics

    摘要: Black phosphorus (BP) is a promising theranostic agent owing to its excellent photothermal property, biocompatibility and biodegradability. However, the rapid degradation of BP with oxygen and moisture causes the innate instability that is the Achilles’ heel of BP, hindering its further applications in cancer theranostics. Herein, a facile surface passivation strategy was developed to prepare polydopamine (PDA) coated BP quantum dots (QDs) (denoted as BP@PDA) through self-polymerization method. PDA with enriched phenol groups plays as a scavenger of reactive oxygen, which can efficiently prevent the oxidation of BP quantum dots and make them much stable in water (~90% for BP@PDA vs. only 10% for pure BP QDs after 10 days storage). Furthermore, PDA with strong near-infrared (NIR) absorption could greatly improve the photothermal conversion efficiency (PCE) of BP QDs from 22.6% to 64.2% (~2.84-fold higher). Considering the excellent biodegradability and good biocompability of both BP QDs and PDA, the as-prepared BP@PDA hold great potential for cancer theranostics.

  • Black phosphorous sensitized TiO <sub/>2</sub> mesocrystals photocatalyst for hydrogen evolution with visible and near-infrared light irradiation

    摘要: Wide absorption from ultraviolet (UV) to near-infrared (NIR) region and enhanced charge separation are two main requirements for promising semiconductor photocatalysts. Here, we studied visible-NIR driven photocatalytic hydrogen evolution over black phosphorus nanosheets/TiO2 mesocrystals loaded with Pt heterostructure (BP NS/ Pt (3 wt%)/TMC TMC). BP NS/Pt (3 wt%)/TMC can harvest photons from UV to NIR and simultaneously has enhanced charge separation to increase the generation of electrons for photocatalytic reduction of water. BP NS/Pt (3 wt%)/TMC exhibited photocatalytic H2 evolution rates of 1.9 and 0.41 μmol h-1 under visible (λ> 420 nm (420-1800 nm)) and NIR (λ> 780 nm (780-1800 nm) irradiation, respectively, compared with 0.3 and 0.10 μmol h-1 for BP NS/Pt (3 wt%)/P25. Moreover, a comparative study was made to examine the effect of thickness of BP NS on the photocatalytic H2 evolution. Femtosecond time-resolved diffused reflectance spectroscopy (fs-TRDRS) was integrated together with photoelectrochemical measurement to shed the light on the importance of charge transfer and separation, confirming that decreasing the thickness of BP NS enhances electron injection from BP NS to TMC to increase the photocatalytic activity.

  • A wet chemical method for black phosphorus thinning and passivation

    摘要: Layered black phosphorus (BP) has been expected to be a promising material for future electronic and optoelectronic applications since its discovery. However, the difficulty in mass fabricating layered air-stable BP severely obstructs its potential industry applications. Here, we report a new BP chemical modification method to implement all-solution based mass production of layered air-stable BP. This method uses the combination of two electron-deficient reagents of 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidinyl-N-oxyl (TEMPO) and triphenylcarbenium tetrafluorobor ([Ph3C]BF4) to accomplish thinning and/or passivation of BP in organic solvent. The field effect transistor and photo detection devices constructed from the chemically modified BP flakes exhibit enhanced performances with environmental stability up to four months. A proof-of-concept BP thin film transistor fabricated through the all-solution based exfoliation and modification displays air-stable and typical p-type transistor behavior. This all-solution based method improves the prospects of BP for industry applications.

  • Z-Scheme 2D/2D Heterojunction of Black Phosphorus/Monolayer Bi2WO6 Nanosheets with Enhanced Photocatalytic Activities

    摘要: Black phosphorus (BP), a star-shaped two-dimensional material, has attracted considerable attention owing to its unique chemical and physical properties. BP shows great potential in photocatalysis area because of its excellent optical properties; however, its applications in this field have been limited to date. Herein, we design and fabricate a Z-Scheme heterojunction of 2D/2D BP/monolayer Bi2WO6 (MBWO) by a simple and effective method. The BP/MBWO heterojunction exhibits enhanced photocatalytic performance in photocatalytic water splitting to produce H2 and NO removal to purify air; the highest H2 evolution rate of BP/MBWO is 21042 μmol g-1, is 9.15 times that of pristine MBWO and the NO removal ratio was as high as 67%. A Z-Scheme photocatalytic mechanism is proposed based on monitoring of ?O2?, ?OH, NO2, and NO3? species in the reaction. This work broadens applications of BP and highlights its promise in the treatment of environmental pollution and renewable energy issues.

  • Black phosphorus nanosheets based sensitive protease detection and inhibitor screening

    摘要: Proteases, as one of the most significant kind of digestive enzymes, are closely related to a variety of physiological processes and diseases. Herein, a black phosphorus nanosheets (BPs) based sensitive fluorometric method for protease detection and inhibitor screening is proposed. The aqueous solution of perylene probe (probe 1) displays a strong fluorescence. BPs, as novel discovered two-dimensional (2D) materials, can adsorb probe 1 through electrostatic interactions, which causes fluorescence quenching of probe 1. Histone can control the interactions between the perylene probe and BPs, which can be further regulated by the introduction of a protease. Thus, the protease activity can be monitored by detecting the fluorescence intensity changes of probe 1. The method is label free, sensitive and selective. As low as 1 ng/mL trypsin can be easily detected.

  • Evaluating the Surface Chemistry of Black Phosphorus during Ambient Degradation

    摘要: Black Phosphorus (BP) is emerging as a promising candidate for electronic, optical and energy storage applications, however its poor ambient stability remains a critical challenge. Evaluation of few-layer liquid exfoliated BP during ambient exposure using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) allows its surface chemistry to be investigated. Oxidation of liquid exfoliated few-layer BP initially occurs through non-bridging oxide species, which convert to bridging oxide species after ambient exposure. We demonstrate the instability of these bridging oxide species, which undergo hydrolysis to form volatile phosphorus oxides and evaporate from the BP surface. FTIR spectroscopy, scanning transmission electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy were used to confirm the formation of liquid oxides through a continuous oxidation cycle that results in the decomposition of BP. Furthermore, we show that the instability of few-layer BP originates from the formation of bridging oxide species.

  • Air-stable N-doped black phosphorus transistor by thermal deposition of metal adatoms

    摘要: In this work, a simple and effective thermal deposition method is described to enhance the stability and achieve n-doping of two-dimensional black phosphorus (BP), resulting the successful fabrication of logic devices. By doping with Al adatoms, the stability of BP against oxidation is enhanced and the transfer characteristics are maintained for several days under ambient conditions. Furthermore, the resulting BP is n-doping showing a negative-shifted threshold voltage and enhanced electron mobility. The mechanism of Al doping is investigated by first-principles calculation and Al induces a downward shift of the conduction band minimum and increases the Femi level. In addition, integration of bare BP and Al-doped BP enables the fabrication of various logic devices such as inverters and p?n diodes. This work reveals a facile strategy to simultaneously enhance the stability and regulate the conductivity of BP by doping with metal adatoms boding well for device applications.

  • Superior Sensing Properties of Black Phosphorus as Gas Sensors: A Case Study on the Volatile Organic Compounds

    摘要: The unique structure and prominent properties of black phosphorus (BP) and its monolayer and multilayers in device applications have attracted significant attention to this elemental 2D material. In this study, a comprehensive evaluation of the candidacy of monolayer BP as a channel material for high-performance volatile organic compound (VOC) sensors is conducted combining first-principles density functional theory calculations and non-equilibrium Green’s function formalism. The adsorption configurations and energetics of several typical VOCs (ethanol, propionaldehyde, acetone, toluene, and hexane) on monolayer BP are examined and it is demonstrated that VOCs generally exhibit stronger interaction with monolayer BP than with the widely studied monolayer MoS2, indicative of monolayer BP potentially being a more sensitive VOC sensor. Monolayer BP is shown to exhibit highly anisotropic transport behaviors, whereas the absolute modification of current–voltage responses due to VOCs is found to show a trend that is direction independent. Moreover, the adsorption of VOCs on monolayer BP is strong enough to resist thermal disturbance, yet allows fast recovery time. The results suggest that BP is a compelling and feasible candidate for sensing applications of VOCs.
