  • Hydrogen peroxide detection with a silver nanoparticle grating chip fabricated by plasmonic plating

    摘要: An optical detection of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is proposed, using grating structures of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). Periodic line structures of AgNPs are deposited on a gold nanoparticle (AuNP)-decorated glass plate using an interference exposure with a green laser beam, based on the plasmonic plating method. This AgNP grating chip diffracts incident light, and the diffraction efficiency is dependent on the amount of AgNPs. By applying a drop of H2O2 solution onto the chip, the diffraction intensity declines due to the autocatalytic decomposition of AgNPs. A portable measurement system of the diffraction intensity change is constructed, and the H2O2 detection in the concentration range 6.7 – 668 μmol/L is performed in 2 min simply by dropping the H2O2 solution onto the substrate.

  • Analysis of Cu doping concentration on PbS thin films for the fabrication of solar cell using feasible nebulizer spray pyrolysis

    摘要: This report portrays the analysis of Cu doping concentration (%) on PbS thin films prepared by feasible nebulizer spray technique. The doping percentage of Cu was increased from 0% to 8% in steps of 2%. X-ray diffraction study of the films evinces the nature of the films as polycrystalline with simple cubic crystal structure. The calculated crystallite size was varied from 55 to 41 nm on increasing the Cu doping concentration. SEM/AFM studies proclaim that the cubic shaped grains have covered the entire film surface. The shape of grains was amended with respect to the increase in Cu doping concentration. An elevation in band gap from 1.61 eV to 2.10 eV was spotted for the raise in Cu doping concentration from 0% to 6%. The near band edge emission peak at 575 nm was sensed from PL spectra in which the intensity was enhanced. Hall Effect measurement declared the p-type conductivity nature for the prepared PbS films. Resistivity and carrier-concentration values are 0.73×103 Ωcm and 6.04×1013 cm-3 respectively for 6% Cu doped PbS thin films. Efficiency for the solar cell FTO/n-CdS/p-Cu:PbS structure constructed with 6% Cu doped PbS film is about 0.68%.

  • Development of a high strength Al–Zn–Si–Mg–Cu alloy for selective laser melting

    摘要: Despite additive manufacturing processes are already widely used in several industrial applications, there are few materials that are specifically designed and optimized for these technologies. Currently, only few Al alloys are available on the market and employed for 3D printing of structural parts. In particular, SieMg bearing alloys are the most common Al alloys for additive manufacturing, featuring high processability but moderate mechanical properties. By this work, we studied the effect of Si addition on the hot cracking susceptibility of a high strength AleZneMgeCu alloy. A preliminary activity has been carried out by blending AleZneMgeCu and AleSieMg powders and analysing their microstructure and properties achieved after selective laser melting. Eventually a new AleZneSieMgeCu alloy has been designed, produced as powder alloy by gas atomization and tested. The microstructure and phase transformations of the new alloy has been investigated by synchrotron X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry and microscope analysis. The AleZneSieMgeCu alloy processed by selective laser melting featured a relative density of 99.8%, no hot cracks were noticed within the investigated microstructures. The ability of the new alloy to respond to aging starting from both as built and solution annealed conditions has been also evaluated. A good response to direct aging (directly from as built condition) was demonstrated, featuring yield strength and ultimate tensile strength of 402 and 449 MPa, respectively, and hardness of 174 HV after optimized aging at 165 (cid:1)C for 2 h.

  • Mono and co-substitution of Sr2+ and Ca2+ on the structural, electrical and optical properties of barium titanate ceramics

    摘要: In this work, Ba0.9Sr0.1TiO3, Ba0.7Sr0.3TiO3, Ba0.5Sr0.5TiO3, Ba0.5Ca0.25Sr0.25TiO3 and Ba0.5Ca0.5TiO3 have been synthesized to evaluate the influence of mono and co-substitution of A-site dopants (Sr2+ and Ca2+) on the structural, electrical and optical properties of BaTiO3 ceramics. Sr2+ added samples showed a tetragonal structure which became slightly distorted with increasing Sr2+ concentration and finally achieved a cubic structure for x = 0.50. Ba0.5Ca0.5TiO3 also retained their tetragonality with limited solubility. Presence of second phase, CaTiO3 demonstrated the fact of restricted solubility. The concurrent effect of Sr2+ and Ca2+ didn't alter the tetragonal structure. Sr2+ substitution enhanced the apparent density as well as grain size which stimulated the domain wall motion and improved dielectric properties. However, the ferroelectric nature of Ba1-xSrxTiO3 was poor due to the redistribution of point defect at grain boundary. The optical band gap was found to be reduced from 3.48 eV to 3.28 eV with increasing Sr2+ content. Co-substitution of cations improved the electrical property significantly. The highest value of dielectric constant was found to be ~547 for Ba0.5Ca0.25Sr0.25TiO3 ceramics. Both Ba0.5Ca0.25Sr0.25TiO3 and Ba0.5Ca0.5TiO3 had developed P-E loop having lower coercive field and moderate optical band gap energy. Co-doping with Sr2+ and Ca2+ was a good approach enhancing materials electrical as well as optical property.

  • Efficiency and Quality Issues in the Production of Black Phosphorus by Mechanochemical Synthesis: A Multi-Technique Approach

    摘要: Black phosphorus (BP) is a two-dimensional material potentially of great interest for applications in the fields of energy, sensing, and microelectronics. One of the most interesting methods to obtain BP is the conversion from red phosphorus (RP) by means of high-energy mechanochemical synthesis. To date, however, this synthesis process was not well characterized. In this work, starting from the mathematical model of energy transfer during the ball milling process, we investigate the effects on RP → BP conversion of three experimental parameters, the rotation speed, the milling time, and the weight ratio between the spheres and the milled material (BtPw ratio). The efficiency of the conversion process was verified by solid-state NMR, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. Whereas the first two parameters have a minor importance, the BtPw ratio plays a primary role in the RP → BP conversion. Yields approaching 100% can be obtained also with short milling times (15 min) and adequate rotation speed (e.g., 500 r.p.m.), provided that the BtPw ratio >40:1 is used. These results confirm the energy sustainability of the mechanochemical synthesis approach.

  • Spectral analysis and temperature measurement during flash sintering under AC electric field

    摘要: In-situ diffraction experiments were used to study the change in peak profiles of 8YSZ during conventional sintering and flash sintering under AC electric field. Using calibration from a conventionally heated standard, the lattice expansion of 8YSZ under flash conditions was correlated to actual specimen temperature, indicating temperature comparable to that required for conventional sintering. At higher current densities, a temperature rise greater than 2000 °C was reached, which resulted in abnormal grain growth and temperature instability. Microstructural analysis demonstrated that finer grain size can be achieved by limiting the current in order to avoid high specimen temperatures. Experiments varying the thickness of the green compact resulted in higher heat loss due to thermal conduction and corresponding reduction in final density. A replacement to the blackbody radiation model was successfully used to fit the data and explain all effects based on Joule heating as well as provide a flash sintering processing map incorporating furnace temperature, power dissipation, and sample geometry.

  • Influence of bath temperatures on physical and electrical properties of potentiostatically deposited Cu2O thin films for heterojunction solar cell applications

    摘要: In the present work, the influence of bath temperatures on structural, morphological, vibrational, optical, electrical and photo response properties of the electrochemically deposited cuprous oxide (Cu2O) thin films on fluorine doped tin oxide substrate is extensively investigated with the help of X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Micro Raman spectroscopy, photo luminescence (PL) spectroscopy, UV–visible spectroscopy, LCR measurement, Keithley 4200 semiconductor characterization system respectively. XRD patterns reveal that the deposited Cu2O films have cubic structure grown along the preferential (111) orientation and the film deposited at 40 °C shows better crystalline nature when compared at 55 and 70 °C. The micro structural properties of films such as crystallite size (D), dislocation density (δ), micro strain (ε) and stacking fault probability (α) were calculated and discussed in detail. SEM displays a well-defined three side pyramid shaped morphology for the film deposited at 40 °C. Micro Raman and PL spectra reveal the film deposited at 40 °C by being better crystalline at a higher acceptor concentration. UV–Visible study shows that the optical energy band gap increases from 2.05 to 2.17 eV with an increase in bath temperature from 40 to 70 °C. The frequency-temperature dependence of impedance analysis shows a higher electrical conductivity for a film deposited at 40 °C compared to other bath temperatures. I-V measurement illustrates a good photoconductivity response for Cu2O thin film deposited at 40 °C compared to films deposited at 55 and 70 °C.

  • Structural and optical properties of a revived Pb0.5Ba1.5BiVO <sub/>6</sub> perovskite oxide

    摘要: The polycrystalline ceramic Pb0:5Ba1:5BiVO6 manifesting the complex double perovskite structure was tailored by the conventional solid state route at a moderate temperature. Qualitative phase analysis and formation of the ceramic were affirmed by XRD analysis. The X-ray powder diffraction pattern of the compound explored at room temperature affirms the single phase formation with double perovskite structure exhibiting rhombohedral phase. Microstructural analysis of the studied compound procured from the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) validates the formation of dense microstructures and nonuniformly distributed grains with minimal voids. Compositional analysis was shaped through the Electron Diffraction Spectroscopy (EDS) confirming the absence of contamination of any other metals apart from the mentioned ones. Dielectric (Cr and tan δ) parameters of the compound were studied using the LCR analyzer at different temperatures and wide range of frequencies. The polarization and dielectric study affirms the presence of ferroelectricity in the material with transition temperature much above the room temperature. The tangent dielectric loss of this sample being almost minimal at room temperature attributes it to find applications in different grounds of electronics. Optical equities of the ceramic were further analyzed by the RAMAN, FTIR, UV–Vis and Photoluminescence spectroscopy.

  • Physical, Thermal and Spectroscopic Studies on Biofield Treated p-Dichlorobenzene

    摘要: Para-dichlorobenzene (p-DCB) is widely used as a chemical intermediate in manufacturing of dyes, pharmaceuticals, polymers and other organic synthesis. The aim of present study was to evaluate the impact of biofield treatment on physical, thermal, and spectroscopic properties of p-dichlorobenzene. The p-dichlorobenzene sample was divided into two groups that served as treated and control. The treated group received Mr. Trivedi’s biofield treatment. Subsequently the control and treated samples were evaluated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and UV-Vis spectroscopy. XRD result showed an increase in crystallite size (4.93%) along with alteration in peak intensity of treated sample as compared to control. Furthermore, DSC analysis results showed that the latent heat of fusion of treated p-dichlorobenzene was considerably reduced by 8.66% as compared to control. The reduction in melting point of treated sample (54.99°C) was also observed as compared to control (57.01°C) p-dichlorobenzene. Moreover, TGA/DTG studies showed that Tmax (temperature, at which sample lost maximum of its weight) was increased by 6.26% and weight loss per degree celsius (°C) was decreased by 12.77% in biofield treated p-dichlorobenzene as compared to control sample. It indicates that thermal stability of treated p-dichlorobenzene sample might increase as compared to control sample. However, no change was found in UV-Vis spectroscopic character of treated p-dichlorobenzene as compared to control. These findings suggest that biofield treatment has significantly altered the physical and thermal properties of p-dichlorobenzene, which could make it more useful as a chemical intermediate.

  • A Hyperspectral Imaging Instrumentation Architecture Based on Accessible Optical Disc Technology and Frequency-Domain Analyses

    摘要: Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) is an emergent instrumentation technology with great potential in many applications, due to its ability to measure important spectral features. However, the widespread adoption of HSI requires the development of accessible (i.e., inexpensive and uncomplicated) HSI instrumentation architectures. In this paper, we present, design, develop, and evaluate an accessible HSI instrumentation architecture, with snapshot operation, based on the integration of readily available components and frequency multiplexing with Fourier analyses. In the experimental work, an incident image beam is divided into spatial image channels, each with an assigned dynamic binary code via a dynamic coded aperture. This dynamic coded aperture is constructed from repurposed diffractive optical disc technologies and is patterned with strategic opaque and transparent regions. When it is rotated by a motor, dynamic binary codes are used, along with Fourier analyses, to identify the diffraction of each spatial image channel. The spatially overlapped spectra from the diffraction are directed onto a charge-coupled device sensor, and each spatial image channel is distinguished through Fourier analyses. The resulting Fourier amplitude spectra are transformed into corresponding functions of wavelength, and this transformation is based on the experimental instrumentation geometry. The performance of the HSI instrumentation architecture is evaluated using a comparison with data from a commercial spectrometer. The presented HSI instrumentation architecture can be adapted for 2-D operation. Ultimately, the presented HSI instrumentation architecture can benefit regions of the world that have limited financial resources and a need for accessible HSI technologies.
