  • The impact of PVs and EVs on domestic electricity network charges: A case study from Great Britain

    摘要: Electric power distribution network charges have become a popular area of study for regulators, industry and academia. Increasing use of photovoltaics (PVs) and electric vehicles (EVs) by domestic customers has created concerns about the fairness of the current tariff structure. Proposing a tariff design, which will be cost reflective, transparent, sustainable, economically efficient is socially desirable. Wealth transfer through electricity distribution tariffs is a major concern for energy regulators. This paper aims to analyse the current distribution network tariffs faced by four main household customer groups in Great Britain (GB) - defined as those who own a PV and an EV, those with EV but no PV, those with PV but no EV and finally those with neither EV nor PV – under various uptake scenarios for EVs and PVs. We illustrate the impact on household tariffs for the most and least expensive GB network operators, namely London Power Networks and Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution. The results show that, due to the current network charges calculation structure, as PV penetration increases, the distribution tariffs increase for all customers regardless of whether someone owns a PV or not. On the other hand, as EV penetration increases, the distribution tariffs decrease for all customer groups. Another key finding is that the distribution tariffs in Great Britain are EV dominated and the future EV and PV penetration projections indicate that the distribution tariffs will likely decrease for all customers in Great Britain.

  • Phase-locked Strategy of Photovoltaic Connected to Distribution Network with High Proportion Electric Arc Furnace

    摘要: With the rapid development of industrialization, the proportion of electric arc furnaces (EAF) in distribution networks is getting higher and higher. Aiming at the problem that grid voltage is distorted by a large number of arc furnace nonlinear loads accessing to distribution networks, it is crucial to make dynamic analysis of distribution network voltage and adopt a control strategy of grid-connected converter based on the new phase-locked loop (PLL) technology. As a result, the harmonic distortion rate is reduced and the quality of grid-connected current and voltage is improved. In this paper, photovoltaic (PV) system model and the typical dynamic model of the EAF are established. By analyzing the influence of the EAF model on the PV grid-connected converter with the traditional phase-locked loop while connected to distribution network, a control strategy of the PV grid-connected converter with the self-adjusting double SOGI (MAF-SASOGI) phase-locked loop with the ideal low-pass filter is proposed. Through the simulation analysis, it is verified that precise phase locked can be realized and harmonic content of the system can be reduced by the PLL strategy proposed in this paper. Therefore, the quality of PV grid-connected voltage and current is improved.

    摘要: Renewable generation, at the customer side of the meter, continue to gain interest worldwide. Distribution network (DN) performance analysis, under distributed photovoltaic generation (DPVG), is paramount important to ensure DN security and reliability. This paper presents a broad review of issues, with an emphasis on grid voltage, associated with DSPVG, and proposed solutions. There has not been a comprehensive literature review of DSPVG, particularly in South Africa (SA). There is a need to quantify impacts and expectations of DSPVG connection on three phase radial low voltage (LV) DNs. In this paper, circuit diagrams and mathematical expressions for voltage rise and drop analyses, are detailed, with a comprehensive range of proposed and commercially available mitigation solutions. These include; active power curtailment (APC), reactive power control (RPC) and droop-based voltage control. APC is more ef?cient and effective for LV DNs. Sophisticated strategies combining different standalone control methods, were proposed in literature, for increase of DSPVG penetration, both locally, in residential home, and globally.

    摘要: Dynamic asset rating (DAR) is one of the number of techniques that could be used to facilitate low carbon electricity network operation. Previous work has looked at this technique from an asset perspective. This paper focuses, instead, from a network perspective by proposing a dynamic network rating (DNR) approach. The models available for use with DAR are discussed and compared using measured load and weather data from a trial network area within Milton Keynes in the central area of the U.K. This paper then uses the most appropriate model to investigate, through a network case study, the potential gains in dynamic rating compared to static rating for the different network assets—transformers, overhead lines, and cables. This will inform the network operator of the potential DNR gains on an 11-kV network with all assets present and highlight the limiting assets within each season.

    摘要: The solar power penetration in distribution grids is growing fast during the last years, particularly at the low-voltage (LV) level, which introduces new challenges when operating distribution grids. Across the world, distribution system operators (DSO) are developing the smart grid concept, and one key tool for this new paradigm is solar power forecasting. This paper presents a new spatial–temporal forecasting method based on the vector autoregression framework, which combines observations of solar generation collected by smart meters and distribution transformer controllers. The scope is 6-h-ahead forecasts at the residential solar photovoltaic and medium-voltage (MV)/LV substation levels. This framework has been tested in the smart grid pilot of évora, Portugal, and using data from 44 microgeneration units and 10 MV/LV substations. A benchmark comparison was made with the autoregressive forecasting model (AR—univariate model) leading to an improvement on average between 8% and 10%.

    摘要: If several feeders are interrupted in a severe accident, distribution networks should be restored by reconfiguring switches automatically with smart grid technologies. Although there have been several restoration algorithms developed to find the new network configuration, they might fail to restore the whole network if the network were critically damaged. The network’s design has to guarantee that it is restorable under any possible failure for secure power delivery, but it is a computationally hard task to examine all possible failures in a large-scale network with complex electrical constraints. This paper proposes a novel method to find all the critical (unrestorable) line cuts with great efficiency to verify the network design. The proposed method first runs a fast screening algorithm based on hitting set enumeration; the algorithm selects suspicious cuts without naively examining all possible cuts. Next, unrestorable cuts are identified from the suspicious ones with another algorithm, which strictly tests the restorability of the network under each suspicious cut without redundantly repeating heavy power flow calculations. Thorough experiments on two distribution networks reveal that the proposed method can find thousands of unrestorable cuts from the trillions of possible cuts in a large 432-Bus network with no significant false negatives.

    摘要: Due to the mismatch between the residential electrical load and the output power of the rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems, node voltages in a low voltage distribution network (LVDN) may exceed the allowable upper limit during the daytime and drop far below the lower limit at night. Existing LVDN voltage regulation methods based on reactive power control of the rooftop PV inverter usually regulate all the inverters using the same control strategy with identical control parameters, although PV inverters at different nodes have different voltage sensitivities to active and reactive power flows. In this paper, an optimized decentralized control strategy of residential PV inverters based on voltage sensitivity matrix is proposed, and different control parameters would be determined and applied to each PV inverters at different LVDN nodes. The proposed strategy provides an optimal control framework for the rooftop PV inverters to maintain voltage within the normal range under varying active power generated by the PV systems, and simulation results verify that the total reactive power output of the PV inverters can be effectively reduced.
