  • Color Tunable Pigments with high NIR reflectance in Terbium doped Cerate systems for Sustainable Energy Saving Applications

    摘要: Color tunable pigments from yellow to red hues were developed in Tb doped A2CeO4 (A = Sr and Ba) system by the conventional ceramic route. The developed pigments were analysed for their phase purity, chemical oxidation state, elemental analysis, morphology and optical properties by various advanced techniques. The Ba substitution in Sr2-xCe0.6Tb0.4O4 gently shifts the absorption edge to higher wavelengths producing bright yellows to reddish orange colors whereas, the Tb substitution in Ba2Ce1-xTbxO4 allows abrupt shift in the absorption edge to longer wavelengths leading to intense red hues. The chemical oxidation state analysis indicates the modifications of Tb3+ concentrations in both the environments due to metal to metal charge transfer transitions induced by lattice expansion. Typically the compositions SrBaCe0.6Tb0.4O4 (yellow; b* = 75.36, R = 91%) and Ba2Ce0.4Tb0.6O4 (red; a* = 30.09, R = 89%) exhibit brilliant coloristic and reflectance properties. The applicability studies revealed good coloring performance in the polymer matrix and on concrete slab with high solar reflectance. Further, the pigments are proven to be weather resistant in acid/alkali/moisture atmospheres with good thermal stability. These color characteristics with high solar reflectance of sustainable and eco-friendly compositions make them promising colorants for exterior coating formulations to mitigate the cooling energy consumption.

  • Luminescent Mesoporous Silica Nanohybrid Based on Drug Derivative Terbium Complex

    摘要: Mesoporous silica nanoparticles prepared by organic template-driven synthesis have been successfully explored as carriers of the drug-derivate green luminescent complex of terbium (III) with the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug ketoprofen. The terbium (III) complex was synthesized by reacting ketoprofen sodium salt with terbium (III) chloride, which was further adsorbed onto the surface of mesoporous nanoparticles with a mean particle size of 47 ± 4 nm and pore size of 11 nm. The incorporation of the complex into mesoporous silica nanoparticles was tracked by the decrease in the surface area and pore size of the nanoparticles, and successfully demonstrated by substantial changes in the adsorption isotherms and thermal and vibrational spectroscopy results. The cytotoxicity assay and confocal microscopy have shown that the novel luminescent nanohybrid presents high cell viability and the characteristic terbium (III) emission can be assessed through two-photon excitation, which paves the way for bioimaging applications in nanomedicine.

  • Tunable magnetic and fluorescent properties of Tb3Ga5O12 nanoparticles doped with Er3+, Yb3+, and Sc3+

    摘要: In this study, we present the synthesis of Tb3Ga5O12 nanoparticles doped with Er3+, Yb3+, and Sc3+ ions, prepared using a co-precipitation method. These materials have well-defined magnetic-fluorescence properties. The effects of Yb3+ ion concentration on the structural characteristics, morphology, luminescence, and magnetic properties of the nanoparticles were investigated in detail using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometer measurements. Under 980-nm laser diode excitation, the nanoparticles displayed bright up-conversion luminescence, showing evidence of resonant energy transfer from the Yb3+ to Er3+ ions. Intense green and red emissions located at approximately 526, 548, and 656 nm were attributed to the radiant transitions of 2H11/2 → 4I15/2, 4S3/2 → 4I15/2, and 4F9/2 → 4I15/2 of Er3+, respectively. These observations indicate that Tb3Ga5O12:Er3+, Yb3+, Sc3+ magnetic–fluorescent bifunctional nanoparticles are promising materials for use in bioimaging and magnetic bio-separation applications.

  • Photostable soft materials with tunable emission

    摘要: Herein we present a synthesis of ionic liquid imidazole-based cations with appended sulfone as terminals. These structures are investigated by RMN (2D), XDR, FTIR and Raman; and show high yield; purity; melting point < 95 °C associated with thermal stability up to 239 °C; chemical stability in water and common organic solvents; and highlighted white light emission. We employed the IL as building blocks in coordination chemistry with ions Gd3+, Eu3+, and Tb3+ to elaborate translucent, luminescent and photostable soft materials. Coordination compounds were characterized by vibrational spectroscopy (FTIR/Raman), UV-vis and photoluminescence spectroscopy. Gd3+, Eu3+, Tb3+(IL)3(H2O)3 complexes display great lifetime >1.6 ms, quantum efficiency > 77%, narrow linewidth, a high degree of color purity and tunable emission. These excellent photophysical properties, associated with soft materials processability, make these materials potentially applicable in the development of luminescent films as OLEDs. We provide data for a detailed study of photoluminescence based on the theories developed by Malta-Judd-Ofelt.

  • Determination of thiacloprid, thiamethoxam and imidacloprid in tea samples by quenching terbium luminescence

    摘要: Consumption of herbal teas, infusions and other plant‐related products has always been popular due to the related health benefits. However, the safety of these products needs to be assessed, for example monitoring the potential presence of contaminants such as pesticides. In this paper, we report an analytical method for determining three neonicotinoid insecticides ? thiacloprid, thiamethoxam, and imidacloprid ? that are widely used worldwide. This method is based on quenching by analytes of the luminescence signal of terbium ions. Terbium presents a time‐resolved luminescence signal at 256/545 nm/nm, which is quenched by the presence of low concentrations of the selected analytes. Detection limits of 0.1, 0.2 or 0.75 μg ml?1 were obtained for thiamethoxam, thiacloprid and imidacloprid, respectively. Recovery experiments in different teas (green tea, black tea, chamomile, peppermint) were performed at concentrations lower than the maximum residue limits established by the European Union and the Codex Alimentarius for tea samples. In all cases, satisfactory recovery yields were observed, and the results were compared with a chromatographic reference method. The proposed method therefore proved suitable for quantifying these insecticides, fulfilling the current legislation.

  • Photoluminescent Properties and Local Structure of Tb Doped Fibrous Alumina

    摘要: A boehmite sol which contains uniform ?brous nanoparticles has a unique property to form a ?lm by its self-assembling properties. When Tb ions were added to the sol, the ?lm became photoluminescent (PL) and emitted bright green light due to the f-f transition of Tb by UV irradiation. The PL intensity varied with calcination temperature during pretreatment. The best performance was obtained when the sample was treated around 800 °C. The PL performance normalized by the Tb content was higher for samples with a lower Tb content. Structural analysis by TEM, XRD, and XAFS revealed that when the Tb content was lower than Tb/Al = 2.5/97.5 in the atomic ratio, Tb ions were dispersed on the alumina surface isolated from each other, and those Tb species showed a high PL performance. On the other hand, for densely Tb doped samples, excessive Tb ions aggregated and formed Tb oxide nanoparticles, which were supposed to have lower PL e?ciencies.

  • Europium and terbium lanthanide ions co-doping in TiO2 photoanode to synchronously improve light-harvesting and open-circuit voltage for high-efficiency dye-sensitized solar cells

    摘要: In this study, we explore the effects on the incorporation of europium (Eu3+) and terbium (Tb3+) rare-earth ions into titanium dioxide (TiO2) photoanodes in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) studies affirm that the Eu3+ ions are arranged at the cationic locales of Ti4+ in the matrix whereas the site inhabitance was remunerated by Tb3+ ions, supporting that the anatase phase stays unaltered without generating any new deformities. Additionally, the Eu3+ ions decidedly changed the conduction band minimum of TiO2, actually, Tb3+ ions contrarily conversion because of various vacant trap states in the band gap. Besides, the photoinduced electron transfer estimations show an efficient interfacial charge transfer for co-doped TiO2 (kET = 3.1 ns) contrasted with the bare TiO2 (2.6 ns). DSSCs based on Eu3+/Tb3+ co-doped TiO2 display higher efficiency (9.11%) than those for the bare TiO2 (7.20%) and the exclusively Eu3+ (8.01%) or Tb3+ (7.10%) doped samples, which is ascribed to the joined impact of a faster electron transportation and longer electron lifetime in the co-doped TiO2 film. This work may open another approach to further improve the performance of DSSCs by Eu3+/Tb3+ co-doping technique, advancing the development of DSSCs toward commercial applications.

  • Development of a Terbium-Sensitized Fluorescence Method for Analysis of Silibinin

    摘要: Silibinin is a natural flavonoid with potent anticancer properties, as shown in both in vitro and in vivo experiments. Various methods have been used for silibinin analysis. Terbium-sensitized fluorescence methods have been widely used for the determination of drugs in pharmaceutical preparations and biological samples in recent years. The present work is aimed at providing a simple analytical method for the quantitative determination of silibinin in aqueous solutions based on the formation of a fluorescent complex with terbium ion. Terbium concentration, pH, and volume of buffer, the important effective parameters for the determination of silibinin by the proposed method, were optimized using response surface methodology. The fluorescence intensity of silibinin was measured at 545 nm using λex = 334 nm. The developed method was applied for the determination of silibinin in plasma samples after protein precipitation with acetone. Under optimum conditions, the method provided a linear range between 0.10 and 0.50 mg/L, with a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.997. The LOD and LOQ were 0.034 and 0.112 mg/L, respectively. These results indicate that the developed method is a simple, low-cost, and suitable analytical method for the quantification of silibinin in aqueous solution and plasma samples.

  • Rapid screening detection of fluoroquinolone residues in milk based on turn-on fluorescence of terbium coordination polymer nanosheets

    摘要: We report a facile, effective and rapid screening method for the determination of total fluoroquinolones (FQs) in milk using lanthanide coordination polymer nanomaterials as the sensing platform. The non-luminescent coordination polymer nanosheets (CPNSs) used in this work are composed of adenosine monophosphate (AMP) and terbium (Tb3+) ions (AMP/Tb CPNSs). The as-prepared CPNSs were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and fluorescence techniques. Tb3+ acts as the center ion of the coordination polymer, with AMP assembled through phosphate and amine groups. However, the reaction between FQs and AMP/Tb CPNSs noticeably turns on the fluorescence due to the strong coordination interaction between FQs and Tb3+. Under optimized conditions, the fluorescence intensity of AMP/Tb at 545 nm shows a linear relationship with FQ concentrations between 0.04 μmol/L and 5.0 μmol/L. The relative standard deviation (RSD) of the intraday precision is below 1 %, and detection limits are as low as 0.01 μmol/L. The proposed method was successfully applied to the determination of FQs in milk samples.

  • Highly selective antenna effect of graphene quantum dots (GQDs): A new fluorescent sensitizer for rare earth element terbium in aqueous media

    摘要: This study focused on the fluorescence antenna-sensitizing effect of graphene quantum dots (GQDs) in a case on the detection of terbium ions. A simple one-step chemical oxidation method was applied for the preparation of GQDs starting from the regular multilayer graphene oxide (GO) via the refluxing in a concentrated mixture of strong acids. The as-prepared GQD were further evaluated as a fluorescent sensitizer to the terbium ion. An expanded in-deep mechanism study on the fluorescence phenomena during the interaction of the as-prepared GQDs and REEs was made. The highly selective antenna effect of GQD on one of REEs’ aqueous media, which was terbium (III), was identified. The excited terbium ion emitted its long-living fluorescence based on its own characteristic line-typed f-f transition, contrasting to a undetectable fluorescence in a very poor quantum yield in its aqueous solution induced by water collisions. This study, in the first place, identified the significant sensitization effect of the as-prepared GQD on the terbium ion in a high selectivity in aqueous media. The detectable linear range and the detection limit of the terbium ion was 0-30×10-6 mol L-1 (R2=0.9960) of 0.3 × 10-6 mol L-1, respectively. The excitation wavelength and the optimal fluorescence wavelength were 230 nm 546 nm, respectively. Further material characterizations, involving XPS, FTIR, Raman and the Zeta potential, verified the important participation of carboxyl function groups on the as-prepared GQD.
