The SiTb nanohybrid exhibits characteristic Tb3+ emission under one-photon and two-photon excitation, with high cell viability (approximately 80%) up to 100 μg/mL, indicating good biocompatibility. This makes it suitable for bioimaging applications where two-photon excitation can reduce photodamage, paving the way for use in nanomedicine.

The study is limited to in vitro cytotoxicity evaluation using HDFn cells; further in vivo studies are needed to confirm biocompatibility and bioimaging efficacy. The incorporation efficiency of 0.12 mmol/g may be optimized, and long-term stability in biological environments was not assessed.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study involved synthesizing a terbium(III) ketoprofen complex (TbKet) and mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) via organic template-driven synthesis. The TbKet complex was incorporated into MSNs by adsorption to form the SiTb nanohybrid. Characterization methods included TEM, SEM, FTIR, TGA, elemental analysis, nitrogen adsorption-desorption, luminescence spectroscopy, confocal microscopy, and cytotoxicity assays.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Samples included pristine MSNs, TbKet complex, and SiTb nanohybrid. Human dermal fibroblast (HDFn) cell lines were used for cytotoxicity evaluation.

Equipment included Philips CM20 TEM, JEOL 7500F SEM, Nicolet Impact 400 FT-SX FTIR spectrophotometer, TA Instruments SDT 2960 DTA-TGA, Fisons EA1110 CHNS-O elemental analyzer, Horiba Jobin Yvon Fluorolog FL3-222 spectrofluorometer, Micromeritics ASAP 2020 Surface Area & Porosity Analyzer, Zeiss LSM 780 confocal microscope, and Thermo Fisher Multiskan Go microplate spectrophotometer. Materials included ketoprofen sodium salt, terbium(III) chloride hexahydrate, CTAB, TEOS, AIBA, MTT, DMEM, FBS, and others from Sigma-Aldrich and other suppliers.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Synthesis of TbKet complex by reacting ketoprofen sodium salt with terbium chloride; synthesis of MSNs using CTAB template and heat treatment; preparation of SiTb nanohybrid by stirring MSNs with TbKet in ethyl acetate. Characterization involved imaging, spectroscopy, thermal analysis, and porosity measurements. Cytotoxicity was assessed via MTT assay on HDFn cells exposed to SiTb.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Incorporation efficiency calculated from TGA and elemental analysis; luminescence decay fitted with single exponential function; statistical analysis of cytotoxicity data using ANOVA and Tukey's test.
