摘要: In this paper, we have addressed and reported the principal technologies part of the next generation mobile fronthauling networks, namely 5G fronthaul. We also described the main features of these technologies and illustrated their benefit via current and challenging bottleneck network conditions by involving real world scenarios with high demand for innovative solutions. These technologies (such as ribbon optical fibers, RoF, passive WDM, mmWaves) will be most likely implemented in the 5G fronthaul infrastructure. Among these technologies, several technical challenges remain to be addressed such as cost-efficient hardware solutions for RoF transceivers, simple adaptation of RoF techniques over ribbon fibers, optical beamforming in integrated photonics, seamless interfaces between the ribbon fiber media and the radiating elements in the RU sites, and finally remote power distribution to RUs from CO premises.

摘要: Significant life cycle cost reduction is demonstrated (up to 20% per platform) using Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) networks for point-to-point fiber links, compared to conventional copper-based or fiber-based networks. The WDM networks enable a common fiber infrastructure for multiple signals, reducing the number of fibers, connectors, adding fusion splices, and static or dynamic network topologies. The WDM-based approach also allows for the reduction of hardwired interfaces, enabling more flexible and scalable network architectures.

Use of Same WDM Channels in Fiber Network for Bidirectional Free Space Optical Communication With Rayleigh Backscattering Interference Alleviation
摘要: In the paper, we present and demonstrate experimentally a 10 Gbit/s on-off keying (OOK) bidirectional wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) free space optical (FSO) communication architecture integrated in fiber network together with 5 m free space transmission length and 25 km fiber link, respectively. To achieve bidirectional FSO link, the all WDM wavelengths can be used simultaneously to serve as the downstream and upstream traffics in the proposed FSO-WDM system. Here, four pairs of line terminations (LTs) and optical wireless units (OWUs) are integrated arbitrarily in fiber access network for confidential and bidirectional FSO connection based on the requirement of practical environment. In the measurement, the relationship of FSO signal performance and detected tolerance are also discussed and analyzed. Moreover, the WDM-FSO transmission can also avoid the Rayleigh backscattering (RB) beat noise in fiber connection.

摘要: Brazilian researchers have been active since the very early days of microwave-photonics, even before this term was coined. The present paper addresses current research, focusing mostly on the activities conducted at the University of Sao Paulo and the National Institute of Telecommunications (Inatel). From a device-level point of view, we demonstrate a variety of photonics-assisted RF devices including frequency converters, amplifiers and RF front-ends. Regarding microwave signal distribution, we demonstrate both a multi-band optical-wireless network delivering 3 Gb/s at 26 GHz as well as a colorless WDM-PON architecture, based on the self-seeding and wavelength-reuse techniques, as an future alternative for 5G radio-over-fiber fronthaul.

Analysis of Jitter Impact on High Speed Transmissions of Wavelength-Division Multiplexing Networks
摘要: In this study, we conduct a thorough assessment of the effect of jitter occurrence in high speed 10 Gbps and 200 GHz Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (WDM) optical network. First, we present a simulation model to study the effect of jitter presence in the proposed network and then determine the maximum amount of jitter which the network can withstand. The model is then employed to predict the types of jitter received at the end of the transmission line. For the input power level of 0 dBm and Bit Error Rate (BER) of 1E?09, the observed total jitter, JT, random jitter, JR and deterministic jitter, JD is 0.2676 UI, 0.1602 UI and 0.1073 UI, respectively.

摘要: Paper present a simulation of bi-directional WDM-TDM PON with upstream re-modulation based on RSOA for 64 ONUs at 60 Km reach with 5 Gb/s downstream and 2.5 Gb/s upstream bit rate. A 1:16 splitter is used as a PON element which creates communication between central office and different users. The effectiveness of this design depends on the ability of the RSOA to re-modulate the received downstream signal with the new upstream signal. This architecture is investigated for different RSOA power, downstream receiver power and extinction ratio in terms of BER. The result shows that as the RSOA input power decreases and the device operating regime becomes increasingly linear, the BER performance of the upstream signal deteriorates and that of downstream signal improves. Also it is observed that greater the extinction ratio the harder is for the RSOA to overwrite the downstream signal

A comparative path establishment study on routing performance of MLR WDM optical networks
摘要: In this paper, we investigate the effect of path establishment method priorities over routing performance in mixed line rate (MLR) wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) optical networks. The survivable routing with rate and wavelength assignment (SRRWA) problem is presented and an efficient shared backup path protection solution is proposed. We prepared detailed simulation scenarios with all possible prioritizations and observed their performances. The simulation results show that assigning higher priority to single hop methods as compared with multi‐hop methods yields better performance. In both methods, it has been observed that assigning higher priority to grooming reduces the communication cost and the traffic blocking ratio while enhancing the resource utilization.

摘要: Optical fiber cable has been presented as a solution to high bandwidth demand. A bidirectional WDM-PON (wavelength division multiplexed-passive optical network) with FTTx (fiber to the x, where x=home, hospital, business, school, mall, etc.) model has been presented with EDFA, WDM mux-demux splitter and APD photo detector for long haul transmission system and as a solution to last mile problem. The proposed model has been designed for 3 Gbps non-return to zero (NRZ) transmission system over 30 km long bidirectional optical fiber. The proposed model is applied on Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM). Further, it has also been compared with the existing reported work on the basis of quality factor, BER and eye diagrams. The proposed model enhances the performance in terms of bit error rate and quality factor at the downstream and upstream end of the systems.
