A Facile Approach for Fabricating Microstructured Surface Based on Etched Template by Inkjet Printing Technology
摘要: Microstructures are playing an important role in manufacturing functional devices, due to their unique properties, such as wettability or ?exibility. Recently, various microstructured surfaces have been fabricated to realize functional applications. To achieve the applications, photolithography or printing technology is utilized to produce the microstructures. However, these methods require preparing templates or masks, which are usually complex and expensive. Herein, a facile approach for fabricating microstructured surfaces was studied based on etched template by inkjet printing technology. Precured polydimethylsiloxane substrate was etched by inkjet printing water-soluble polyacrylic acid solution. Then, the polydimethylsiloxane substrate was cured and rinsed, which could be directly used as template for fabricating microstructured surfaces. Surfaces with raised dots, lines, and squares, were facilely obtained using the etched templates by inkjet printing technology. Furthermore, controllable anisotropic wettability was exhibited on the raised line microstructured surface. This work provides a ?exible and scalable way to fabricate various microstructured surfaces. It would bring about excellent performance, which could ?nd numerous applications in optoelectronic devices, biological chips, microreactors, wearable products, and related ?elds.

High-Mobility Inkjet-Printed Indium-Gallium-Zinc-Oxide Thin-Film Transistors Using Sr-Doped Al2O3 Gate Dielectric
摘要: In this paper, we demonstrate high-mobility inkjet-printed indium-gallium-zinc-oxide (IGZO) thin-film transistors (TFTs) using a solution-processed Sr-doped Al2O3 (SAO) gate dielectric. Particularly, to enhance to the electrical properties of inkjet-printed IGZO TFTs, a linear-type printing pattern was adopted for printing the IGZO channel layer. Compared to dot array printing patterns (4 × 4 and 5 × 5 dot arrays), the linear-type pattern resulted in the formation of a relatively thin and uniform IGZO channel layer. Also, to improve the subthreshold characteristics and low-voltage operation of the device, a high-k and thin (~10 nm) SAO film was used as the gate dielectric layer. Compared to the devices with SiO2 gate dielectric, the inkjet-printed IGZO TFTs with SAO gate dielectric exhibited substantially high field-effect mobility (30.7 cm2/Vs). Moreover, the subthreshold slope and total trap density of states were also significantly reduced to 0.14 V/decade and 8.4 × 1011/cm2·eV, respectively.

Gas sensing characteristics of the FET-type gas sensor having inkjet-printed WS2 sensing layer
摘要: This paper investigates the gas sensing characteristics of the MOSFET-type sensor having an inkjet-printed WS2 sensing layer. The drain current of the gas sensor increases when NO2 gas is injected into the test chamber since NO2 gas is an oxidizing gas that extracts electrons from the sensing layer. On the contrary, the drain current decreases when H2S gas is injected into the test chamber since H2S gas is a reducing gas that donates electrons to the sensing layer. In both cases, the change of the drain current increases as the gas concentration increases. However, for other gases (NH3 and CO2), the gas sensor has a small change of the drain current. The responses of the gas sensor to 10 ppm NO2, H2S, NH3, and CO2 gases are 15.20%, 7.18%, 1.66%, and 3.02%, respectively. Therefore, the WS2 sensor has a high selectivity for NO2 gas among the four target gases.

Inkjet Printed hybrid light sensors based on Titanium Dioxide and PEDOT:PSS
摘要: We demonstrate photodetectors sensitive to ultraviolet light entirely developed by means of inkjet printing technique and based on titanium dioxide and PEDOT:PSS. Devices have a lateral architecture and are realized on a plastic substrate, thanks to the low thermal budget production process. Pure titania devices behave as standard photodetectors, increasing their conductivity by more than 4 orders of magnitude upon UV light exposure. Bilayers of PEDOT:PSS and titania show an inverted behavior, with a high conductivity in the dark which drops by 7 orders of magnitude upon light exposure: this is likely due to the fast recombination of PEDOT:PSS holes with photogenerated TiO2 electrons. The series connection of pure TiO2 and of PEDOT:PSS/TiO2 bilayer is suggested as the basis for the development of low-power, complementary–like, photosensitive voltage dividers.

Inkjet-printed silver as alternative top electrode for lead zirconate titanate thin films
摘要: In the present work, we describe direct patterning of silver top electrodes on polycrystalline Pb(Zr0.53Ti0.47)O3 (PZT) thin films via inkjet printing. The films were first deposited on platinized silicon via chemical solution deposition. Individual nanosilver ink droplets were then printed on the PZT surface to create round top electrodes with tunable diameter from 75 to 93 mm. Printing parameters and strategy were optimized for deposition of homogeneous electrodes. High quality of the printed silver electrodes sintered at 350 °C is confirmed via measurements of the direct piezoelectric response and polarization loops of PZT thin films, whose results are comparable to the ones obtained for sputtered platinum top electrodes, with e31,f = -4.1 C m-2 and Ec ~55 kV cm-1, Pr ~20 mC cm-2.

Highly Responsive PEG/Gold Nanoparticle Thin Film Humidity Sensor via Inkjet Printing Technology
摘要: In this study, a highly responsive humidity sensor is developed by printing gold nanoparticles (GNP) grafted with a hygroscopic polymer. These GNPs are inkjet printed to form a uniform thin film over an interdigitated electrode with controllable thickness by adjusting the printing parameters. The resistance of the printed GNP thin film decreases significantly upon exposure to water vapor and exhibits a semi-log relationship with relative humidity (RH). The sensor can detect RH variations from 1.8% to 95% with large resistance changes up to 4 order of magnitude with no hysteresis and small temperature dependence. In addition, with a thin thickness, the sensor can reach absorption equilibrium quickly with response and recovery times of ≤1.2 and ≤3 seconds, respectively. The fast response to humidity changes also allows the GNP thin film sensor to distinguish signals from intermittent humidification/dehumidification cycles with a frequency up to 2.5 Hz. The printed sensors on flexible substrates show little sensitivity to bending deformation and can be embedded in a mask for human respiratory detection. In summary, this study demonstrates the feasibility of applying printing technology for the fabrication of thin film humidity sensors, and the developed methodology can be further applied to fabricate many other types of nanoparticle based sensor devices.

Quality assessment and damage detection in nanomodified adhesively-bonded composite joints using inkjet-printed interdigital sensors
摘要: In this work, the development of a planar interdigital capacitive sensor, directly onto the surface of a composite, for determining the initial quality of curing of bonded composite joints and assessing their long-term durability is presented. The sensor consisted of an interlocking comb-shaped array of silver electrodes and used to monitor the progress of cure of an adhesive resin and the subsequent damage state of the bond line in adhesively-bonded composite joints using impedance spectroscopy. The obtained results from the mechanical characterization indicated that the developed sensor did not affect the quality of the bondline while the added weight of the sensor is negligible. The curing process of the adhesive epoxy was successfully monitored while the ability of the sensor to assess the developed damage created by the mechanical loading was confirmed using transient infrared thermography.

[IEEE 2018 International Flexible Electronics Technology Conference (IFETC) - Ottawa, ON, Canada (2018.8.7-2018.8.9)] 2018 International Flexible Electronics Technology Conference (IFETC) - Low Temperature (80 °C) Sinterable Particle Free Silver Ink for Flexible Electronics
摘要: For the emerging field of flexible printed electronics, ink compatibility with substrate is always required. However, most of the commercial silver nanoparticle-based inks are not compatible with flexible substrates, as they need high- sintering temperatures (~150-250 0C). In addition, silver nanoparticle-based inks have several serious problems such as a complex synthesis protocol, high cost, particle aggregation, nozzle clogging, reduced shelf life, and jetting instability. These shortcomings in conductive inks are barriers for their wide spread use in practical applications. In this work, we demonstrate a silver-organo-complex (SOC) based particle free silver ink which can decompose at 80 0C and becomes conductive at this low temperature. The inkjet-printed film from this ink exhibits not only high conductivity but also excellent jetting and storage stability. To demonstrate the suitability of this ink for flexible electronics, an inkjet-printed film on flexible polyimide substrate is subjected to bending and crushing tests. The results before and after flexing and crushing are very similar, thus verifying the excellent tolerance against bending and crushing for this ink as compared to the commercial nanoparticles based ink.

Fabrication of Stretchable Circuits on Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) Pre-Stretched Substrates by Inkjet Printing Silver Nanoparticles
摘要: Several research methodologies have recently been developed to allow for the patterning of conductive lines on elastomeric rubber substrates. Specifically, various conductive materials, substrates, and fabrication techniques were investigated to develop stretchable circuits. One promising technique recommends the application of axial strain on an elastomer substrate prior to patterning conductive lines on it. When the substrate is released, conductive lines buckle to form waves, making the circuit stretchable. However, the majority of applications of stretchable circuits require fitting them to two-dimensional surfaces, such as the human body. Hence, in this paper we propose the concept of radial pre-stretching of the substrates to enhance the stretchability of the fabricated circuits. In particular, straight silver conductive lines were deposited on a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) surface using inkjet printing technology, and subsequently tested under both axial and radial loads. Radial pre-stretching was compared to axial pre-stretching, resulting in an improved performance under radial loads. The optimal performance was achieved by pre-stretching the PDMS substrate with a radial strain of 27%. This resulted in stretchable circuits which could sustain radial loads with an average breakdown strain of approximately 19%. Additionally, horseshoe patterns were printed on radially pre-stretched PDMS substrates and their performance was compared to that of their straight line counterparts. Though these patterns are generally favorable for the fabrication of stretchable circuits, the optimal horseshoe pattern examined in this study could only sustain up to 16% radial strain on average when radially pre-stretched by 27%.

Ambipolar Conjugated Polymers with Ultrahigh Balanced Hole and Electron Mobility for Printed Organic Complementary Logic via a Two-Step C?H Activation Strategy
摘要: High mobility ambipolar conjugated polymers are seriously absent regardless their great potential for flexible and printed plastic devices and circuits. Here, ambipolar polymers with ultrahigh balanced hole and electron mobility are developed via a two-step C–H activation strategy. Diketopyrrolopyrrole-benzothiadiazole-diketopyrrolopyrrole (DBD) and its copolymers with thiophene/selenophene units (short as PDBD-T and PDBD-Se) are used as examples. PDBD-Se exhibits highly efficient ambipolar transport with hole and electron mobility up to 8.90 and 7.71 cm2 V?1 s?1 in flexible organic field-effect transistors, presenting a milestone for ambipolar copolymer screening. Based on this performance metrics and good solubility, PDBD-Se is investigated as inkjet-printable semiconductor ink for organic complementary logic circuits. Under ambient processing, maximum hole and electron mobilities reach 6.70 and 4.30 cm2 V?1 s?1, respectively. Printed complementary inverter and NAND gates with transition voltages near VDD/2 are fabricated, providing an easy-handling, general material for printed electronics and logic.
