  • Adaptive Nonlinear Equalization of a Tunable Bandpass Filter

    摘要: The mitigation of third-order intermodulation distortion produced by a nonlinear tunable bandpass filter (BPF) in a digital receiver channel is demonstrated. An iterative solution is proposed, in the use of the least-mean-square algorithm, as an effective way to allow the correction coefficients to adapt to the changes in the system characteristics when the center frequency is changed. Results are shown using a two-pole, varactor-loaded BPF, and an Analog Devices AD9371 transceiver.

  • Linearized Single Sideband Modulation Link with High SFDR Performance

    摘要: A linearized fiber optic link without dispersion induced power fading is presented. It is based on using a dual-drive dual-polarization modulator to generate a single sideband RF modulated optical signal and an orthogonally linear polarized unmodulated optical signal. The link is linearized and consequently the third order spurious free dynamic range (SFDR3) is largely increased by designing the angle of a linear polarizer connected to the modulator output to suppress the third order intermodulation distortion. The two Mach Zehnder modulators inside the dual-polarization modulator are biased at the quadrature point. Hence there is no degradation in the link second order spurious free dynamic range (SFDR2) performance compared to the conventional quadrature-biased Mach Zehnder modulator link. Experimental results demonstrate a single sideband modulation link without dispersion induced power fading and a record measured SFDR3 of 121.4 dB?Hz4/5.

  • Nonlinearity mitigation in multi-IFoF-based mobile fronthaul transmission using spectral power shaping

    摘要: We propose a spectral power shaping technique for use in intermediate frequency (IF) over fiber systems. The technique redistributes the power of nonlinear components by adjusting the spectral power of the signal. Experiments performed using 10 km distance transmission system show that the proposed technique effectively controls the power of the nonlinear components in a broadband system. The feasibility of the proposed technique was experimentally verified in terms of the error vector magnitude (EVM) and degree of channel linearity.

    摘要: This paper analyzes analog electro-optic modulator linearization techniques employing modulation of multiple distinct carriers with differing modulation efficiencies. We describe a general framework for calculating intermodulation distortion for this type of composite modulation approach. The problem of compensation of nonlinear distortions above 3rd order in electro-optic links to optimize spur free dynamic range is formulated using truncated Fourier series, where the choice of RF photonic link parameters is shown to be equivalent to a corresponding window function applied to the truncated Fourier series representation of a desired transfer function.

  • Optimizing the Nonlinearity and Dissipation of a SNAIL Parametric Amplifier for Dynamic Range

    摘要: We present a quantum-limited Josephson-junction-based three-wave-mixing parametric amplifier, the superconducting nonlinear asymmetric inductive element (SNAIL) parametric amplifier (SPA), which uses an array of SNAILs as the source of tunable nonlinearity. We show how to engineer the nonlinearity over multiple orders of magnitude by varying the physical design of the device. As a function of design parameters, we systematically explore two important amplifier nonidealities that limit dynamic range: the phenomena of gain compression and intermodulation distortion, whose minimization are crucial for high-fidelity multiqubit readout. Through a comparison with first-principles theory across multiple devices, we demonstrate how to optimize both the nonlinearity and the input-output port coupling of these SNAIL-based parametric amplifiers to achieve higher saturation power, without sacrificing any other desirable characteristics. The method elaborated in our work can be extended to improve all forms of parametrically induced mixing that can be employed for quantum-information applications.
