  • Silicon nanowire luminescent sensor for cardiovascular risk in saliva

    摘要: Cardiovascular diseases are some of the today major cause of death in the world. C-reactive protein (CRP) is well known as the main biomarker related to cardiovascular risk and heart attack occurrence. The standard CRP analyses are performed in a hospital or in a biochemical laboratory with blood analysis after a long chemical and labelling preparation that require expert personnel. In this scenario, a health care analysis that can be performed by the same patient at his own home appears extremely revolutionary. In this paper, the study of an innovative sensing platform based on the luminescence at room temperature of silicon nanowires (NWs) is reported. This NWs sensor is label-free and does not require a chemical treatment of the analyte, is strongly selective to the CRP demonstrating a femtomolar limit of detection and a wide operating range. This proposed silicon sensing platform can be realized with an industrial compatible approach and permits to reveal the strategic CRP level in saliva in order to prevent a heart attack, with great advantages for the patient.

  • Multi-point Gaussian States, Quadratic–Exponential Cost Functionals, and Large Deviations Estimates for Linear Quantum Stochastic Systems

    摘要: This paper is concerned with risk-sensitive performance analysis for linear quantum stochastic systems interacting with external bosonic fields. We consider a cost functional in the form of the exponential moment of the integral of a quadratic polynomial of the system variables over a bounded time interval. Such functionals are related to more conservative behaviour and robustness of systems with respect to statistical uncertainty, which makes the challenging problems of their computation and minimization practically important. To this end, we obtain an integro-differential equation for the time evolution of the quadratic–exponential functional, which is different from the original quantum risk-sensitive performance criterion employed previously for measurement-based quantum control and filtering problems. Using multi-point Gaussian quantum states for the past history of the system variables and their first four moments, we discuss a quartic approximation of the cost functional and its infinite-horizon asymptotic behaviour. The computation of the asymptotic growth rate of this approximation is reduced to solving two algebraic Lyapunov equations. Further approximations of the cost functional, based on higher-order cumulants and their growth rates, are applied to large deviations estimates in the form of upper bounds for tail distributions. We discuss an auxiliary classical Gaussian–Markov diffusion process in a complex Euclidean space which reproduces the quantum system variables at the level of covariances but has different fourth-order cumulants, thus showing that the risk-sensitive criteria are not reducible to quadratic–exponential moments of classical Gaussian processes. The results of the paper are illustrated by a numerical example and may find applications to coherent quantum risk-sensitive control problems, where the plant and controller form a fully quantum closed-loop system, and other settings with nonquadratic cost functionals.

    摘要: This study focuses on the forest fire risk assessing using entirely remote sensing derived variables. These variables include Fuel moisture content (FMC), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Leaf Area Index (LAI), Elevation and Slope. The Difference and Anomaly of FMC in time series are also calculated since FMC is one of the critical factors in assessing the wildfire risk. The logistic regression model is used to integrate all the variables in the fire occurred and none-occurred areas to derive the Fire Risk Index (FRI). A case study of the above methodology is applied to assess the FRI in Yunnan Province in China. The result shows that the AUC is to 0.8 for grassland and 0.81 for woodland, which indicates the good performance of the presented methodology in assessing forest fire risk.

  • Multi-target joint detection, tracking and classification based on random finite set for aerospace applications

    摘要: Multi-target detection, tracking and classification are important problems in aerospace applications, such as reconnaissance, airborne and spaceborne sensing. These problems are correlated but are difficult to be solved simultaneously, especially for systems with multiple sensors. This paper summarized the existing work for multi-target joint detection, tracking and classification based on labeled random finite set. Furthermore, a new algorithm is proposed for multi-sensor multi-target joint detection, tracking and classification problem. A conditional multi-sensor multi-target state estimator is derived, and the optimal solution is then obtained based on the minimum Bayes risk criterion. The numerical simulations are performed, and the results are shown to be more accurate than that of the approximate solutions based on the unlabeled random finite set. It is observed that the labeled random finite set theory provides a good foundation for a joint solution for multi-target detection, tracking and classification.

  • Measurement of peripheral dose to pelvic region and associated risk for cancer development after breast intraoperative electron radiation therapy

    摘要: This study aimed to measure received dose to the pelvic region of patients during breast intraoperative electron radiation therapy (IOERT). Furthermore, we compared the findings with those of external beam radiation therapy. Finally, secondary ovary and uterus cancer risks following breast IOERT were estimated. In the current study, the received dose to the pelvic surface of 18 female patients during breast IOERT boost were measured by thermoluminescent dosimeter (TLD-100) chips. All patients were treated with 12 Gy given in a single fraction. To estimate the dose to the ovary and uterus of the patients, conversion coefficients for depth from surface dose were obtained in a Rando phantom. Given the received dose to the pelvic region of the patients, secondary ovary and uterus cancer risks following breast IOERT were estimated. The received doses to ovary and uterus surface of the patients were 0.260±0.155 mGy to 31.460±6.020 mGy and 0.485±0.122 mGy to 22.387±15.476 mGy, respectively. Corresponding intra-pelvic (ovary and uterus) regional doses were 0.012±0.007 mGy to 1.479±0.283 mGy and 0.027±0.001 mGy to 1.164±0.805 mGy, respectively. Findings demonstrated that the ratio of the received dose by pelvic surface to regional dose during breast IOERT was much less than external beam energies were 135.722±117.331 × 10-6 and 69.958±28.072 × 10-6, and for uterus were 17.342±10.583 × 10-6 and 2.971±3.604 × 10-6, respectively. According to our finding, the use of breast IOERT in pregnant patients can be considered as a safe radiotherapeutic technique, because the received dose to the fetus was lower than 50 mGy. Furthermore, IOERT can efficiently reduce the unnecessary dose to the pelvis region and lowers the risk of a secondary ovary and uterus cancer following breast irradiation.

    摘要: The publication represents the thesis that illumination is one of the important but often underestimated factors for the achievement of high quality signal security activities (SSA), especially in the part related to the efficient operation of the Mobile Security Patrol (MSP). Тhe speed of the MSP response, the possibilities of obtaining real information about the environment of the guarded object and the adequate counteraction of the intruders has been examined under the impact of the lightning. The risks of the process and the possibilities for its improvement at each step are examined and analyzed by applying a set of technical and organizational measures to ensure sufficient and reliable lightning. During the research is used simplified technology, that includes problems' visualization and the solutions are represented with a diagram and a table, which contributes to more clearly defined inconsistencies and corrective actions. The technology could be incorporated into the management systems of SSA as one of the means for improvement, according to the requirements of point 10 'Improvement', of management standards ISO 9001:2015, ISO 27001:2013, ISO 45001:2018 и ISO 18788:2015

  • Association between sunlight exposure and risk of age-related macular degeneration: a meta-analysis

    摘要: Background: A substantial number of epidemiological studies have investigated the possible associations between sunlight exposure and Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), but the results from studies are inconsistent. The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the association between sunlight exposure and the risk of AMD. Methods: Relevant studies were searched using databases including PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science database. Two authors independently extracted data and assessed study quality. The random-effects model was used to calculate the pooled covariates-adjusted odds ratio (OR). Subgroup analyses based on study design, stage of AMD, method of exposure assessment, and study latitude were carried out. The heterogeneity across the studies was tested, as was publication bias. Results: Fourteen eligible studies including 43,934 individuals based on the inclusion criteria were analyzed. The pooled OR for sunlight exposure and AMD was 1.10 (95% CI = 0.98–1.23). In addition, similar insignificant results were observed in further subgroup analyses based on stage of AMD, method of exposure assessment, and study latitude. Sun-avoidance behavior did not decrease the risk of AMD (OR = 1.12, 95% CI = 0.76–1.67). Moderate heterogeneity was observed in most of analyses. Conclusion: The results indicate that sunlight exposure may not be associated with increased risk of AMD based on current published data.

  • Hypertension Assessment Using Photoplethysmography: A Risk Stratification Approach

    摘要: Hypertension is a common chronic cardiovascular disease (CVD). Early screening and diagnosis of hypertension plays a major role in its prevention and in the control of CVDs. Our study discusses the early screening of hypertension while using the morphological features of photoplethysmography (PPG). Numerous morphological features of PPG and its derivative waves were defined and extracted. Six types of feature selection methods were chosen to screen and evaluate these PPG morphological features. The optimal features were comprehensively analyzed in relation to the physiological processes of the cardiovascular circulatory system. Particularly, the intrinsic relation and physiological significance between the formation process of systolic blood pressure (SBP) and PPG morphology features were analyzed in depth. A variety of linear and nonlinear classification models were established for the comparison trials. The F1 scores for the normotension versus prehypertension, normotension and prehypertension versus hypertension, and normotension versus hypertension trials were 72.97%, 81.82%, and 92.31%, respectively. In summary, this study established a PPG characteristic analysis model and established the intrinsic relationship between SBP and PPG characteristics. Finally, the risk stratification of hypertension at different stages was examined and compared based on the optimal feature subset.

  • The Prevalence and Risk Factors for Diabetic Retinopathy in Shiraz, Southern Iran

    摘要: Globally, diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the leading causes of blindness, that diminishes quality of life. This study aimed to describe the prevalence of DR, and its associated risk factors. This cross-sectional study was carried out among 478 diabetic patients in a referral center in Fars province, Iran. The mean±standard deviation age of the participants was 56.64±12.45 years old and DR prevalence was 32.8%. In multivariable analysis, lower education levels (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 0.43; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.24 to 0.76), being overweight (aOR, 1.70; 95% CI, 1.02 to 2.83) or obese (aOR, 1.88; 95% CI, 1.09 to 3.26), diabetes duration of 10 to 20 years (aOR, 2.35; 95% CI, 1.48 to 3.73) and over 20 years (aOR, 5.63; 95% CI, 2.97 to 10.68), receiving insulin (aOR, 1.99; 95% CI, 1.27 to 3.10), and having chronic diseases (aOR, 1.71; 95% CI, 1.02 to 2.85) were significantly associated with DR. In conclusion, longer diabetes duration and obesity or having chronic diseases are strongly associated with DR suggesting that control of these risk factors may reduce both the prevalence and impact of retinopathy in Iran.

  • Recursive SURE for image recovery via total variation minimization

    摘要: Recently, total variation regularization has become a standard technique, and even a basic tool for image denoising and deconvolution. Generally, the recovery quality strongly depends on the regularization parameter. In this work, we develop a recursive evaluation of Stein’s unbiased risk estimate (SURE) for the parameter selection, based on specific reconstruction algorithms. It enables us to monitor the evolution of mean squared error (MSE) during the iterations. In particular, to deal with large-scale data, we propose a Monte Carlo simulation for the practical computation of SURE, which is free of any explicit matrix operation. Experimental results show that the proposed recursive SURE could lead to highly accurate estimate of regularization parameter and nearly optimal restoration performance in terms of MSE.
