The developed method successfully produces few-layer MoS2 nanosheets with abundant S vacancies and 1T phase, significantly enhancing HER activity. The choice of protic solvent is crucial for facilitating S vacancy formation and phase transition. The MoS2 exfoliated in formic acid exhibits outstanding HER performance, demonstrating potential as a substitute for Pt-based catalysts.
