To demonstrate a commercial AlGaAs laser-diode-pumped Tm 3+ -based systems for applications in medicine, remote sensing, atmospheric communication, spectroscopy, frequency metrology, and for pumping lasers and optical parametric oscillators at higher wavelengths.

A low-cost 3W multimode AlGaAs laser diode at 781 nm is a suitable pump source for the Tm:YAG and Tm:LuAG lasers, providing more than 630 mW output power in the 2 μm regime. The output wavelength was tuned over 175 nm using a birefringent filter. This method may be of high interest for applications involving pumping Tm 3+ laser systems in a compact layout.

The experiments showed a decreasing slope efficiency with an increasing level of output coupling, which leads to a high upconversion. The tuning ranges were broader and smoother compared to previous works, possibly due to a higher Tm 3+ ion concentration in the current experiments.
1：Experimental Design and Method Selection:
A four-mirror x-cavity geometry was used for stable laser operations. A linearly polarized multimode diode laser was used to pump the Tm 3+ -doped crystals.

5 mm, 6% Tm 3+ -doped YAG and LuAG crystals were used.

4：Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
The pump beam was collimated and focused inside the gain crystals. The absorbance percentages and fluorescence lifetimes of the crystals were measured. Laser performance was measured using three different output couplers.

The output power and slope efficiency were measured. The laser outputs were tuned using a birefringent filter.
